  1. Was this approved? Are we getting an iFly tunnel in NY?
  2. I spoke to a couple of people at flight-1 and it looks like these courses are more proximity flying with other canopies rather than actually CRW. However, they did say that you will be taught many skills that would be useful in CRW right up to (but not including) the actual dock so I still think it would be a great place to start for those of us new to the discipline.
  3. I emailed Alti-2 requesting a flexible wrist strap & apparently it is in the works. This is the response I got: "We are currently awaiting the arrival of a pre-production prototype sample for our new Elastic Wrist Band Mount. We expect it shortly. Once we have approved the design, I will post further details on availability and pricing in our forums and on our Facebook page."
  4. It may be a mistake but I think its more than a typo. The website stated "The SkyTie does not work on Infinity, Racer or Wings containers.". I also called them & they told me the problem is that the reserve flap on infinity rigs are too wide for it. I'm really surprised that it works on the infinity with no issues. I was afraid if i stretched it to fit over the reserve flap, there may be an issue with it releasing in case I had to chop it. Thanks for the info Zjumper.
  5. I had a magnetic slider keeper installed but it looks like if it were to get entangled with the main and the reserve flap would open, it would just slide off of the flap. It feels like it slides off pretty easily when the reserve flap is open on the ground. Of course if it is under tension, who knows? I attached a pic of the slider keeper with the reserve flap open.
  6. Thanks for all of the info Iowa. I'll ask gor them when I head up there.
  7. Thanks for the diagram. I would love an RDS eventually. Not sure I'm ready for the extra complexity right now. The RDS doesnt really add much complexity, it is as complex as closing your container, also as complex to take it off as it is to collapse it and use the skytie if not simpler. You can order the one pull release RDS where there is a string right at the middle and it releases all four corners and once is off you can either put it under your shirt or in a pocket. I am definately going to consider the RDS in the future. Thanks for all the info. In the mean time I got a slider stow installed on my infinity at Skydive Sussex in NJ. It took 10 minutes.
  8. I will ask them to be sure but even a class on proximity flying with other canopies must offer some skills that would be useful for someone looking to do CRW, right? Thanks. I just subscribed to crwdogs. CPI in CT is definitely close enough. Thanks.
  9. I noticed Flight-1 is offering 2 new canopy courses focused on CRW: 201a & 202a. Unfortunately there are no listed upcoming courses this year. I emailed them & they told me they would let me know about any upcoming courses. Are there any other canopy courses in the North Eastern US that focus on CRW? Flight-1 Course descriptions: "Flying Relative" (201A) is the first step in the Flight-1 Air to Air Program. After a comprehensive brief on canopy collision avoidance and survival, the student is introduced to flying relative to another canopy. Here the pilot learns the true reference of how the controls effect the system relative to another. The "wind tunnel" for canopy pilots. "Team Flying" (202A) leads the student into dynamic team flying and landings. It builds on relative flying, teaching the student advanced dynamic formation flying, turns and landings. The "ultimate wind tunnel" for canopies.
  10. I'll ask my rigger about these too. Thanks. Also, nice video. I wish there were more of these for skydiving related gear.
  11. Thanks for the diagram. I would love an RDS eventually. Not sure I'm ready for the extra complexity right now.
  12. That looks great. Thanks for posting.
  13. I thought about something like this for a second but what will happen in a cutaway? I'm sure my rigger can come up with something.
  14. It's not that it flaps, but it does seem to creep up on me. Once it actually popped up enough that it came right over my head.
  15. Never thought about it. I just thought the Sky tie would be the simplest solution. Not on an infinity rig though.
  16. Get your rigger to sew on a similar thing to the top of the yoke. I've seen a few Wings and Infinity rigs with that. Thanks. I'll speak to my rigger.
  17. I want to get a slider keeper for my Infinity I45. When I checked on chuting star, it states "The SkyTie does not work on Infinity, Racer or Wings containers.". Chutingstar SkyTie I know there are alternatives similar to the SkyTie. Any advice on a magnetic keeper that will work with an Infinity?
  18. http://blueskiesmag.com/2014/05/14/linda-waz-foundation-the-waz-up-boogie/ The Linda Waz Foundation, Inc. will be kicking off its first major fundraising event at the Waz Up!! Boogie at the Blue Sky Ranch in Gardiner, NY on June 6-8, 2014, to celebrate Linda, to honor and raise funds to assist her and others who are fighting the good fight. The Waz Up!! Boogie will feature multiple Twin Otters, a Caravan, load organizing in multiple disciplines (belly, freefly, wingsuit, and more), entertainment, raffles, a Friday night accuracy comp, parties, silent auction, freebies, food, beer, industry vendors & demos, and of course, the amazing Ranch vibe. If you’ve never been to the Ranch, you can’t go on missing out. Get your butt to the boogie, pitch a tent in the woods and get ready to throw down Ranch-style. Confirmed organizers include: John Skinner, Francesco Cippilone, Jeremy Price, Kim Emerson, Yan Wolfson, and more! About Linda Wasilonski Linda is a legend in the sport of skydiving. Not through competitions or as a YouTube sensation, but through touching the lives of thousands of students ant licensed skydivers alike. Petrified of airplanes as a child, the daughter of an US Admiral, Linda learned early on how to be loving but at the same time demanding. She spent her young life as a classically trained ballerina who started on Broadway in the musical Cats. After two years on Broadway, she went on to teach. After a time, curiosity over “what type of wacko” would jump out of an airplane drove her to Ellingville, CT in 1981. She was told that as long as she didn’t jump she would get her money back, so she sat through class and took the plane rides from time to time…and get her money back.. One day an instructor was able to coax her to the door and with a little bit of tough love she made that jump. It was a problem because it cost her car payment. We owe a lot of thanks to that instructor because he kicked off an astounding 30+ year career in skydiving that has touched more skydivers in the world than we can imagine. Having logged over 13,000+ jumps, including 9000 AFF levels + 500 tandems , Linda has been a part of 14 world records including the first ever Women’s 32-way. It is estimated that she has trained over 6,000 AFF students, which would be roughly 10% of all the USPA registered skydivers. In 1984 Linda jumped into the 1984 Olympics as part of the blue ring. In 1988 she starred in a Sprite ad with theme, “feels so good going down”. This amazing woman, mother, instructor, rigger, and instructor examiner has influenced and saved so many skydivers with her passion, dedication and constant injection of humanity into our sport, and it is ultimate truth when jumpers at the Ranch say that most of us wouldn’t be where we are today if not for jump-mama Linda Waz. For more information about the event as it develops, like the Waz Up!! Boogie on Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/events/1417276545207593/ ), by following the Linda Waz Foundation, Inc. page ( https://www.facebook.com/lindawazfoundation ). 19. +1. Non-polarized if you are using any LCD equipment. Unlike most people here, I had a Viso & Liquid polarized lenses. On the ground it looked fine, but in the air it was really hard to see the left most part of the screen So an 8.0 would look like 3.0. I ordered a new pair of liquids with non-polarized lenses and never had another problem with the viso or the N3 I now use.
  20. http://www.redbull.com/en/adventure/stories/1331652291912/wingsuit-flyers-soar-daringly-over-new-york-city Red Bull Air Force took to the skies over Manhattan on Sunday morning in an extraordinary skydive. Stay tuned! Full video is coming soon... Five members of the Red Bull Air Force made a rare wingsuit flight over the New York City skyline on Sunday morning. Utilizing the latest technology in wingsuits allowed the flyers to travel an incredible two miles in two minutes to get a new, amazing view of the iconic NYC cityscape. Ascending to 8,200 feet above the city via aircraft, the elite skydive team deplaned near the southern tip of Manhattan. Aided by their wingsuits, the flyers were able to propel to 120 mph during freefall, passing by defining buildings of the Financial District, before heading uptown where they deployed their parachutes – landing safely on a barge floating on the Hudson River. Jeff Provenzano completed the monumental jump with fellow Red Bull Air Force members (and New York natives) Sean MacCormac and Amy Chmelecki, alongside team manager Jon Devore and videographer Andy Harrington, who also jumped. “The FAA air space restrictions were a big challenge,” said Devore, referring to the three major airports surrounding the proposed jump zone, and the limitations imposed after 9/11. But the team obtained the appropriate permits. .... The successful skydive was organised in anticipation of the Bethpage Air Show on Long Island, New York, next weekend (Memorial Day weekend in the USA). The Red Bull Air Force will be performing multiple jumps for the large crowds expected at the highly revered air show, which draws 400,000 spectators annually. ....
