Seems like I've been gone from dz.com for more than just 5 days...it was nice. But IMO Detroit is just a troubled city that has been run by a bunch of incompetent corrupt street smart thugs and their bling buddies for far too long. I never thought of the officials here as neither dem or repub - they're in a league of their own. We once had a decent Mayor but he was labeled an uncle tom and outed. The arab muslims imigrants really aren't a problem, but unlike their European predecessors they hardly do anything to improve the quality of life and the city continues to deteriorate...especially the smaller little "safe haven" cities inside Detroit like Hamtramck and Highland Park. Any concern about muslims here tends to be directed toward the politically discontent Afican-American ex-con Islamic converts. The FBI already had to take out a few of the extremists leaders...The efforts to protect against extremism are rather tenacious here, thanks to great undercover work of informants that penetrate religious organizations and expose the fraud. A side note, I read an article about your home town recently and how there is a big upswing in urban exploration tourism.
