Would you want your AAD to be dependent on radio frequency? How about your main? Even worse, would you want the government mandating it because they felt it was more responsible and would save lives? I know it's a billvonian analogy, but you brought it up... Personally, I wouldn't mind owning one of these personalized "smart" guns - I think it's cool - and I'm sure I'd have plenty of time testing out it's reliability in my back yard, but I would never want it mandated no matter how reliable my tests prove. A government mandate for these guns just seems like "People looking after their own immediate and short term self interests rather than looking at the ramifications further down the line." (as quade puts it.) What if history repeats itself and in 100 years when only smart guns are available, we're found to be just another great country in history who found itself under the power of another tyrannical government where we can't "bear arms" to protect ourselves nor retreat into the forest and live off the land with our guns because said tyrannical government jammed our signals? I've shared that same sentiment in the past on this forum. I expressed how I don't want the Church to be in bed with the government for the same reason I don't want the mob doing me any "favors" - It's only a matter of time before they need you to return the favor even if it compromises your beliefs. Specifically, I addressed how I'm big on the separation of Church and State. I expressed how I don't want religion in the public schools because I don't want some liberal atheist teaching Christianity and injecting his/her own personal/ignorant bias. I've addressed how taxing Churches could result in more religious political clout, and likewise cause more pressure from government officials to impose it's needs on the church. (bad for both religious antagonist and protagonists alike) In more lighthearted debates, (or should I say discussions) I expressed that people should be careful about wanting to ban Christmas celebrations in public schools because it could ultimately spoil the fun for kids wanting to dress up for Halloween given the religious implications of the "Holiday" Now, I think all these arguments (including yours) have elements of validity, but they also have elements of being informally fallacious in that they appeal to the future. Now we're of course just trying to prove a point, but would you accept "the unintended ramifications" argument if it were used against AGW, AHC, and gun control mandates? That's understandable. I don't like it when anyone comes over unannounced. I think it's rude. I don't personally know any Evangelical or Catholic that do this...It primarily seems to be limited to Mormons and JW's. Sometimes I let them in...other times I just send them on their way or just don't answer the door all together. I really don't find an occasional doorbell ringing to be as tormenting as it is for you. Personally, I find spam cluttering my inbox to be more of a nuisance. Indeed, and the only reason the Court approved the secrecy is that OK lawmakers threatened to impeach the justices if they didn't approve. Well, if justices are going to give into threats, then perhaps they are not fit for the position. This whole thing just stinks... Was this botched execution a coincidence? I'm inclined to believe it was PR damage control. If this was something only known to a handful of NBA officials/owners, I think they would feel that it's in everybody's best interest to keep it quiet. It was a big deal over here...it played out on probably every news network and many talk shows....there were threats of boycotts and the president even made a statement. There is no more room for racism in this country anymore, and that point was made perfectly clear.
