and a few more

here are a few from my Kenya trip.

Wouldn't Reflex & Eclipse be on the list, since they have not banned it ?
-
It will vary vastly with the environment you use it in. a canopy jumped in Canada should last much longer than the one jumped in Arizona ... and here's what PD says about the matter : http://www.performancedesigns.com/faq.asp#14
-
Silhouette is a great beginner canopy. It flies and flares well, and packs like a charm. when measuring your WL please remember to take into account the weight of the gear you will be wearing (30+ lbs)

get their phone number talk to them figure out what makes both of you comfortable

So because they have a different opinion than you, they don't know what they are talking about and their opinions arnt worth anything? IMO, B12's are uncomfortable, bulky, more expensive, and sometimes they jam open and you have to stick a screwdriver in it to knock it back closed. My employer is 65 years old and still manages to put on his rig without B12 snaps. Unless you have the flexibility of a 2x4 you probably could to. But hey, its your rig. If you want them, go for it. I'll give you a +1. in addition B12s are a big pain in the ass due to the weight of the V-ring buckle swinging around, and unless left hooked up at all times will eventually swing into something/someone and cause damage/pain. I am not theorizing, I am speaking from experience. B12s are a great tool, but not for everyone. Just like split sliders are supposedly a solution to removable or stowable systems :)

yop. I get asked all the time.

you can definitely do that. Just look at my profile :) leave the AAD selection blank. And type in whatever you want in the Other box.

considering that they give a physical location and a unique description of what's to be expected on their site, I would imagine they are a real operation. Just because YOU have no heard of them, does not make it a skyride scam. Skyride's MO is a generic template with no address, a vague reference to a large geographic area and a toll-free phone number.
-
it's a real DZ. it really is owned by Skyride it really is in Pennridge and it has a very high volume and yes, lots of DZs have sold tandems on Groupon for $120-$150 keep in mind the redemption rate is under 100%, so their true revenue per tandem is a bit higher than the sales price.

Please substantiate the claim of Cypres being responsible for 34 fatalities. Adrian Nichols - absolutely, that's impossible to argue with. But people who went in with the Cypres - surely you cannot say that Cypres caused them to go in. Cypres may not have saved them, but it surely did not cause their death. This is like holding ABS brakes responsible for road deaths. And just to put things into perspective - how many Cypres units are out there ? How many Vigils are out there ? How many Argus units are out there ? How many jumps are made on each of those brands ?

Did you check or carry-on your rig? (assuming you had it with you) carried it on.

I flew JFK->Dubai and Nairobi->Dubai in the beginning of March. no problems

Please explain how do Serge's personal issues matter to members of this forum ? So far everyone here had skydiving gear related dealings with him and had given him a +1. This thread is about Karnage Krew who took prepayments on gear they promised to deliver in 10-22 weeks, but seems like instead have never even placed the said orders with the manufacturers. You came in here with a blank profile and what seems like a failed non-skydive related venture. Seems like you ran out of options in Ozzy courts and are now just muddying up the waters in a completely unrelated industry. Feel free to clarify and let the members of this forum know who you are, and why you feel Serg is bad for the skydiving community. Please state facts and provide evidence.

unless the rigger who told you about it being approved is representing UPT, you are barking up a wrong tree. BTW, just because it's unapproved, it may not make it illegal.

Wearing Vibram Five Fingers while Skydiving?
likestojump replied to hokierower's topic in Gear and Rigging
I can't see how they are significantly more dangerous than anything else. What problems am I not seeing? As an AFFI, I'd (currently) let you wear them.... But I am open to why I should not let you. the Five Finger shoes are advertised to feel as if you are bareful - they accomplish this by having a very thin rubber sole with a minimal elastic "sock" just thin enough to hold that sole to the bottom of your shoe. They offer just enough protection to the bottom of your foot to not get scraped on light pebbles. In any impact scenario near 100% of the impact force will go straight to your legs, without any cushioning you may have from a thick sole. Also, the separate toe pockets allow for independent movement for each toe, and make it very easy to injure a single toe as opposed to just dirty up the front of your "full shoe" in an event of a tumble (which is very likely to happen to a newbie jumper) lastly, when one takes a faceplant (quite common with newer jumpers, right ?), a fair amount of force can be exerted in the front of the shoe - in a "normal" scenario the sole flexes and absorbs, as well as dissipating the flex across a wide/thicker surface of the sole and the the stiffness of all toes that are in the shoe. However, in the case of the five toed shoes, the front of the sole is split into five very thin and very narrow pieces of rubber (the length and width of an individual toe) thus increasing the chances of injuring individual toes. Like I said, I am not an instructor, but I do own a pair of those shoes... the KSO series have a 3.5mm sole which is "razor siped" - so it has ridges in it which make the working thickness even less. My guess is that Vans are about a 15mm sole. -

Wearing Vibram Five Fingers while Skydiving?
likestojump replied to hokierower's topic in Gear and Rigging
I am not an instructor, but I do own a pair of those shoes. I think it's highly unsafe and irresponsible to have a newbie jump in those. picture for those who do not know WTF they are : http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/products/Five-Fingers-Sprint-Mens.htm -
I suspect that one could win the auction and have the rig mailed to the local rigger for inspection. If it's a "go" by him, then the transfer of funds can commence. Though, I think that eBay has certain rules about paying within a certain time frame. (and yes, I have personally gotten 3 refunds using Buyer Protection - one for the item not as described, and 2 for the items never shipped) However, I do most of my searching for rigs here on this site in the classifieds. I find it hard to believe that any eBay seller is willing to ship a product before getting paid. However, eBay does offer great consumer protection, and if the product is not as described they will get you a refund after you prove return delivery. This is a recent change with them, and makes their protection on par with what credit cards offer.
