Sen. Schumer on the Three Branches of Government
wayneflorida replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Well not much will be said in the news media because isn't Bush or Palin. I don't like Schumer but I don't go crazy just because someone said something that when said the words might not have come out right. Hell I'm smart enough to get the jest of what he was saying. But you are right Bush and Palin would catch more hell in all 57 states. -

How interesting that the First Amendment is used to protest protections afforded under the First Amendment. It is true that American Democracy was founded on the ideal that some people aren't entitled to a voice in the system. I guess one could ask, "Which side actually wants to shut people up?" Sure, the right wing has a nasty habit of making ballots that a large percentage of left wing voters can't figure out. But the left responds with efforts to ensure that the right wing won't be heard. Democracy at it's finest means squelching voices. (Funny how unions had protestors there. My guess is that the left wants an exception carved out for unions in attempting to do something about Citizens United). Haven't seen any ballot issues since Gore vs Bush. That problem was in a democrat county with a democrat supervisor of elections and she was the one that designed the famous butterfly ballot. I'm sure the chad issue had been around a long time but became a big issue because of the small led Bush had.

How Important is Teaching/Learning Cursive Today in School?
wayneflorida replied to CarrieByTheSea's topic in The Bonfire
At first I wondered who your mother-in-law was mad at. Then I thought they don't teach elementary school students to curse anymore. WTF Finally by the time I started to read your fourth paragraph it clicked. She's talking about writing long hand. I don't think I have seen the word since 1966, so I really had to clean the cobb webs off. I use to do a pretty good job of copying my Mother's cursive writing to skip school. -
Traffic and Transit Update: 12-Hour Commute
wayneflorida replied to wayneflorida's topic in The Bonfire
Wonder how many stranded people had emergency kits in their cars? Even the President's motorcade got stuck in that mess because weather was too bad for Marine One when he flew into Andrews. The SS were probably going apeshit. -

Passenger cleared after TSA checkpoint stare-down
wayneflorida replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm not clear if this was at the security checkpoint where tsa looks at your ID and boarding pass before the cancer machine and pat down. Or, when he was just walking around the terminal area somewhere. -
Unlikely. The election is soon, so the case is fast-tracked. Early voting starts next Monday and election day is Feb 22, I believe. SC of IL should have ruling near weekend maybe.

I always wonder what the motivation is when I see someone wearing something like that! Well try a little experiment. Get the shirt and wear it for a week or so and report back to us how people treated you.

Well, I found a news story about an evil man. Was going to post it in SC. Didn't really concern politics, or religion, etc. Animal cruelty. Had it all typed up with links and comments, etc. I couldn't hit the send button so I canceled my post. I thought why do I want to subject my friends to this crap. Some of you probably know the story and tried to get out of your mind as fast as you could. Have any of y'all done this? Only
