Don't spend $9k on a bike and $100 on a helmet! A good lid will cost some cash. I only ride with Arai helmets now. I've owned AGV, Shoei, HJC, Nolan, Bieffe and a few others. I have a noggin that fits best in Arai's - that (along with their safety record) is enough to keep me in an Arai. They are also (IMHO) the best vented helmet.

Zhills 7th Annual Memorial Day 4 Way Scrambles - Sunday May 24

Yep, there were 13 teams - even with the crappy wx. My team ended 7th. Could've been better, could've been worse. It was fun and I learned a lot. -

2nd! Everyone made the best of the weekend. The wx just didn't want to help out. We had a great time, thanks to the organizers and staff at Z-hills! -
One of the guys at work mentioned that the new (Post 9-11) GI bill has a sub-section in it for "licenses" - and that you can use it for any certification: boat captain, flying ratings, etc. I assume you can use it for jumping.

5, 8, 0 It was a great weekend and Z-hills despite the wx. The wife and I had some "quality time" while it rained on Thurs/Friday then Sat/Sun mornings we got a few jumps in.

I'm in - I'll be there camping all weekend with the wife. (she's doing AFF this weekend, so I'll need something to keep me busy! ) I just hope there are some people that can fall fast! -
If you sit in heavy stop-and-go traffic very much the full fairing bikes will get HOT. Might be something to consider.

I agree that putting it in the side/rear cases works best. If you have to wear it or strap it down to the back seat, I'd cover it if possible to keep the wind out. I've also heard of people pulling the cutaway so if they get a deployment, it won't pull them off the bike - just don't forget to reset it!!!

If you are going to do it, do it asap after your undergrad. It was about 8.5 years after undergrad before I started my graduate work. It sucks. It's not hard, it just sucks being a student again.

Want to be on a skyvan filled with nude jumpers? Go to the Picton New Year's Boogie in Oz. I think we did 3 or 4 full nude loads on the skyvan 2 years ago.

I have to start out by saying that I've been a pilot a LOT longer than a skydiver. (16 years as a pilot, only 2 as a jumper). I've been to a fair share of airshows in my time and I've never seen pilots looking down on jumpers. If anything, I've seen them show interest in jumping. As soon as I started jumping, all the pilots I fly with wanted to know all about it. I think in the airshow arena, we are all performers, everyone is different. Is it harder to fly the F-15 demo or the Extra 500? I've never flown an Extra, but I bet its just as hard. People that don't jump will not understand the complexity of a great skydive, that's just part of this sport we love. Belive me, I've been approached by too many people at airshows that want to talk about how cool flying fighter's is and how good they are at Falcon 4.0 - There are 2 sides to every coin. Also, remember - all pilots look down on everyone that doesn't fly what they fly. We all hang out together and it'll be the jet guys against the fatty-drivers, the prop jockeys vs the helo's, single seat, multi-place, new, old, fast, slow, etc, etc... It's just part of aviation.

I've jumped the one in Idaho a few times. I've heard those planes have CG issues. In ID, they wouldn't let us stack outside and the pilot didn't slow down at all. Pretty serious wind blast. They only fly theirs when they do tandems (if there's a spot open for upjumpers, we got on also). I'm guessing they turn a profit with 2 tandems/load.

Sounds like that guy was a jackass. The guys at my DZ didn't know what I did until they asked. (then they got a flyby...) Besides, we all know that carrier pilots have it the easiest - no flare, no crosswind, no finesse...
-
I also fly and I did the same thing. (Jacked up ankle - 3 weeks no fly). I had no problems with skydiving. In SUPT they won't let you skydive, but everywhere else I've been (USAFE, ACC and even AETC as an IP) they have no problems.

Yes, agree with all above. The faster my canopy lands, the more normal it looks!

Unless of course you DON'T want to get passed in every corner by those of us on Italian bikes... If straight lines are your thing though... busa is king.

Well, I'm leaving tomorrow and the forecast isn't looking good enough to warrant dragging all my gear up there. Guess I'll be snowboarding...

I emailed them about jumping this month. I'm rolling up to Alaska on Wed of next week and I'll be there till May 2nd. I'm all about some winter jumping up there, but they said (as you would expect) that it will depend on the weather. I'm still torn on whether to take my gear with or not.

What about those of us who have both???

I raced or trackday'd pretty much every weekend for about 4 years in both the UK and when I moved back to the States. I sold my last racebike (GSXR) but I still have my Mille R that I have both street and race stuff for. I do a few track days a year and I'm still a licensed racer, but for the cash and wear and tear on my body, I skydive more. Racing is a great community, but it's much more cutthroat than skydiving. I love racing and riding (I ride my BMW R1200 GS Adv everyday). And I love passing people with newer faster bikes on the track, but for me, it's just easier and less painful to spend the money on jumping. It's a much more portable sport, and the parties are better (ususally). Watch out at PIR - not too much runoff up there!

Another Air Force dude, I'm an F-15C Instructor Pilot. I'm also overseas (no jumping) but I'll be back on Saturday!

Australia? can anyone recomend a DZ near Sydney
EvilEagle replied to warren121's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I had a blast at Skydive Sydney last year. It's about a 1.5 hour drive from Sydney, but I worked out a deal to get a lift from one of their Sydney offices. PM me if you want more info.
