Welcome all the turbines (and cooler weather) back to FL!

Landing a plane vs landing a parachute
EvilEagle replied to gofast_ER's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Agree, I've been flying since I was 15 and started skydiving at the age of 30. Landing got much easier when I started flying a more loaded canopy. 1.6 loading looks pretty close to landing at 160 knots. -
I've owned an raced an 00 Mille R since 2003 - bought it when I lived in England. There is a lot more support in Europe for Aprilia, but it's my favorite of all the sportbikes I've owned. I had lots of Jap bikes, a 916 and a 996, the Mille is by far better. The engine is bullet-proof and it's easy to take care of. The Ohlins is worth its weigh in gold and the sound is awesome. Get one, you'll love it!

The USAF is Obviously Upgrading its Capabilities!
EvilEagle replied to Gawain's topic in The Bonfire
There's also one in Caldwell, Idaho - not flying right now, but I've seen them working on it. -

Couldn't agree with you more - I was in a 1979 model. However, we have only bought 186 F-22's to replace 750 F-15's. We have to keep these antiques in the air!!!

Yes, all the B-2's are in Missouri (Whiteman AFB). I'm not talking about 1 minute late (although honestly - what is the window for being on time to a flyby?) It's about 5 seconds. Not most, very few. Ask your congressperson - the fighter force is dwindling and FAST!!!! There are only 9 active duty bases in all of the CONUS that have fighters. Guard bases are more common, but wait until 2012 - the budget is cutting about 80% of our guard fighters. No big deal right - the guard is only the people who protect the CONUS... Sorry, I have a rather large soap-box for that one. Anyway, there are sometimes closer places, but fighters also don't have the range to go super far for a flyby. Ours is somewhere around 1200-1500 miles depending on our configuration, where as a B-2 is WAY more than that. I'm in Panama City, we launched on Thursday, did the flyby and landed at Daytona.
-
Valid point - a loaded question indeed!!!! B-2's seem to be off time or not even show up fairly often. Sunday was supposed to have been a B-2 flyby, but they fell out. We were only scheduled for the Thursday (Duels) flyby, but since we were in town, they asked us to do it. Normally we would've had 4 jets for that big of a race, but since it was last minute they didn't fly two more down.
-
Well we love doing the flyby's - and this was my first trip back to Daytona with a jet. Glad we got the timing right!
-
What did you guys think about the flyby?
-
We don't even get to do that anymore. But, the fight we train for - no one else can do. (kinda like the Hog's kept training for the current fight when we were all drilling holes in the sky for ONW and OSW and they were told we'd never need them again...) How'd that work out for us??? It's just our turn.
-
So close, but still not quite there. True that the Eagle is a big fighter.... But noone does what we do.
-
NEGATIVE!!! Just please TRY to be ontime to the tanker track, and don't pull a shark fin all the time! (but congrats on finally getting to a jet - SUPT is a long year!)
-
I hope so! If there was any chance of that happening - I do it in a heartbeat. A 8 hour trip (drive to airport, check-in, fly, etc) would turn into a 2 hour trip. Nice! Oh well, I guess I'll just have to try to be cool on my own.

I'm probably about 75% in for this year. I had a great time last year but to be honest, I didn't meet all that many people. Seemed like quite a closed circle. Hopefully I'll get to be one of the cool kids this year...

My wife and I went last year, several decent motels around the area - check the website - they always have some point-outs to good deals. The DZ is 45 mins to 1 hour drive from San Juan so you'll need to bum a ride or rent a car.

And this is how high we were.

These are from last week's trip to Vegas.

Every person has a different experience in the military. Today I hit 10 years on active duty in the USAF. I've done nothing but fly for 10 years, which is rare. The USAF and the Navy have big differences, but military aviation has a lot in common regardless of the service. A few thoughts from this old Eagle driver: - Don't ever think you are the best at your job till you've proven it - all over the world - several times over - Some things have to be taken at face-value. Pilot training is different for everyone - people go into it wanting to fly one thing and come out flying something else 90% of the time. Every job is important, but not everyone is cut out for some jobs - do the best you can and be realistic. The world needs ditch diggers too. - Always be early - Learn to be stingy with your gas - Never count on the tanker to be where it's supposed to be - Respect what other people do (aviation and otherwise) - nothing will ruin your reputation faster than talking smack about something you know jack shit about - Fly a great jet - Take care of your people - Get your "other" job done - all pilots have some additional duty besides flying and that's what we normally get in trouble for and lastly, - Have fun - it's the best job in the world!

Looks like it might be crappy weather this weekend - what say you Vegas locals? I'm on the way out tomorrow, trying to decide whether to bring gear or not.

the useless (but educational) trivia thread
EvilEagle replied to virgin-burner's topic in The Bonfire
Cool idea but not even close to true. The A-10 does not slow down when it fires the gun - I have lots of friends that fly it, I've flown the sim and fought with/against it. Gun is just loud and shakes the jet, doesn't slow them down. -
Fun jumper friendly DZ in Vegas

Find someone else that drives to Mesquite and bum a ride - they rent gear. I'll be there this weekend (sat and sun) if the weather holds.
