Too bad the science teacher of 21 years is anti science. Did god or Science leave the mark on the childs arm? I'll bet god is not going to pay his civil lawsuit fines either. What a loon! A science teacher claiming that science is wrong. He could have explained the difference between the lining of the vagina and the rectum. There are clearly health benifits to hetero sex when compared to homo. Same thing goes for monogamous relationships when compared to multiple partners. That approach would have been valid and within the scope of his teaching 'science'. I wonder if he thinks 'belief' prevents or cures STD's. Does he think 'science' advocates homo? Instead he references the novel. Ignorant fundies drive me nuts! Remember kids, ZZ top says, "Cover Your Rig"! PULL! jumpin_Jan "Dangerous toys are fun but ya could get hurt" -- Vash The Stampede

That's funny! It's the difference between talking the talk and walking the walk. His advocate, ignorant of any accomplishments with which to reply, suggested hope is good enough. I'd hope BO has done 'something' that could be referenced yet his advocate is/was ignorant. BO's campaign could at least provide cheat sheets for the congresscritters when appearing on the boobtube. Perhaps there is really nothing to reply to the question with. PULL! jumpin_Jan "Dangerous toys are fun but ya could get hurt" -- Vash The Stampede

What would you do with a cheating girlfriend?
jumpin_Jan replied to okieheaddown's topic in The Bonfire
I'm sure there's no revenge in the accidental "2-way-free-flying-heads-down-dock-on-his-reserve-handle" trick. I wouldn't ever fuck with somebodys reserve in the air. If he had a mal he would be severely limited in his options. I don't even joke about reserves, I'm a rigger and take it very seriously. If there are witnesses the USPA will drop your membership and pull ratings. (it happened in Quincy in '94 or '95) I agree it _IS_ an option, just not one I would recommend. In addition to my previous comments consider this; Since they snuck off she may have shit on the other fucker too, by spilling the beans. Sounds to me like some seriously tainted pussy. Name and shame, everyone on the DZ deserves to know what to expect from either of them. The same goes for anyone who aided and abetted. Lemme guess, you paid for food, fuel/transportation, registration, jump tickets, other 'consumables', etc.??? (been there, done that, got the T-shirt) Suggestions (one mans OPINIONs) Forgive yourself for not being clairvoyant. It is NOT your fault they shit on you. Understand that pain is the price you pay of some of lifes lessons. Learn from the experience, you paid for it! Learn to avoid the pain! You appear to expect more out of your relationships, don't settle for less! (based on your OP) Cut that malfunction away before you go in! Do not even think to retrieve it, let it rot in the sun. Get your stuff collected ASAP. Return her stuff to him, it's his baggage now! Never trust either of them again! You deserve better than doormat treatment _IF_ you are a faithful person in your intimate relationships. Let them know in no uncertain terms that their are consequences for their behavior. Do not tell them what those consequences are though. If you are bigger/badder and have better flying skills you could invite him on a 2 way every time you see him. I would totally mind fuck them as they are doing/did to you! Announce to the DZ that she is easy, name and shame. If she has hot female family/friends chat em up if it's convienient. (the fuck her mom thing!) I would refrain from violence, two wrongs do not make a right. Pissing in his gear bag would be acceptable though! :) And last but not least, don't forget to PULL! jumpin_Jan "Dangerous toys are fun but ya could get hurt" -- Vash The Stampede -

Ckret, For what it's worth... The FAR's require a rigger to follow manufacturers instructions each time a parachute system is maintained. Most of the riggers I know(self included) actually use the manufacturers printed instructions each and every time! I still use them for my own gear that I have memorized. It is part of the anal attention to detail that IMneverHO each rigger should follow as if someones life depended on it, because it often does. That being said, I think it is likely that Cossey WOULD have paching instructions handy for the container though possibly not the round reserve as they all flake and fold quite similarly. The packing instructions often include instructions on use. I'm not sure about the NB6 though. If Cossey or others thought that a crewmember might have been the intended recipient of one or more of the rigs including instructions was a cool thing to do. This does not address what instructions were given to Cooper just the likelihood that manufacturers instructions were available to Cossey. PERSONAL OPINION regarding jumping custom/modified gear. An Analogy: The experienced jumpers that I know(self included) that would jump(some will not) borrowed gear would think of it like driving a car that you have never driven before. They all have the similar handles and buttons but they may be in a slightly different location. A few minutes familiarization is all that is necessary for sucessful operation in most cases. I do not intend to harp about differences of opinion. My intention is to provide insight into what I consider common thought processes that some experienced jumpers use and why. Some would freak out and others would go YEEHAA I get to log something new! :) I tend to think of Cooper as the YEEHAA variety because that's how I think. My point is that I reach different conclusions from the same data. ...................................................................................... WILD TANGENT ALERT!!! :) I have wondered if Cooper was into opiates. That could explain his time in the lavatory and possibly a motivation. It could also explain his lack of wildly agressive behavior with the crew. Along theese lines I'd also like to point out that the ticket Cooper purchased was under $20.00. It seems like a low budget job if the bomb was also a fake. Perhaps he could not afford his own gear. or He may have sold his gear to support a habit. The song "Sam Stone" by John Prine explains in more detail. _END_OF_WILD_TANGENT_ALERT_ PULL! jumpin_JAN "Dangerous toys are fun but ya could get hurt" -- Vash The Stampede

Jo, It's NOT Ckrets fault you hooked up with a criminal. It's not his fault you are in a position to BE embarrased by Duanes checkered past. The Feds do not owe you anything as far as checking with you first before releasing FACTS and/or opinions to the public. Yet he apologised anyways! Your attempts at character assination of those who may be in a position to discredit your story also do not gain any traction with me. You are in no position to demand anything from anyone. When an error has been pointed out Ckret has usually owned it and clarification was offered. Few here will blame him for ignoring unreasonable demands. (ex: prove a negative) You imply that it is intentional and/or malicious. You have also implied that you have or would interfere with those seeking interviews that might implicate a different suspect. Your stated reason was that you do not 'trust' their motives. I think you are obstructing the persuit of the truth if what you claim to have done is true. Once again I ask you (as others have repeatedly done) for one FACT or verifiable piece of evidence that puts DW on that aircraft! I agree with the replies posted so far. It is the user of the tool, not the tool. I do have an issue with them being marketed as 'non-lethal'. The evidence suggests otherwise. Most firearm injuries are non-lethal too. The taser reduces the costs involved in cleanup though! PULL! jumpin_Jan "Dangerous toys are fun but ya could get hurt" -- Vash The Stampede

Disclaimer: I am not a 'programmer' nor did I stay at a HolidayInn last night, but... I use jEdit and it has a zillion neato plugins. You can download and install the plugins from within the program with the plugin manager. I like it because I have the exact same tool in Linux and doze. I use it for POV, html, Java, and Python. (yep I still hand code POV and html, lol) It is a bit bloaty and slow with lots of files open though. Here is a link to the Language support plugins page http://plugins.jedit.org/list.php?category=6 Cscope Finder and/or CtagsSideKick may be the type of thing you are looking for. I googled "Cscope jedit C++" and it looks like similar exist for many other editors based on the results. Good luck with your quest, don't forget to enjoy the journey! The oil into vehicle idea has lots of data available online. This is a great idea if you are the source of the oil because you can monopolize yourself as the recipient. That is the flaw with the idea of everyone doing it, there is not enough used oil available for all of us. RE: fireplace I am not an expert but I think some oil would have a tendency to evaporate and re-condense in the flu/chimney of a fireplace. This could become a fire hazard and/or a maintainance problem. Oil furnaces atomize the oil in a regulated manner where an oil soaked woodchip log may not. Why not build/buy an oil furnace if you can't use it in a vehicle? I like your attitude and hope you find an efficient method for using the recyclables! can you use Reserve Canopies as a main
jumpin_Jan replied to MADPROPS's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have not checked lately but... In the USA (back in the day) you could use anything as a main as long as you have a TSO'd harness container and reserve. From an FAA standpoint it can(could?) be done. From a practicality standpoint you need to convince the DZO, S&TA, and pilot that you have 2 canopies and have a reasonable chance of surviving opening and landing on the main. People used to occasionally put 'retired' round reserves in as mains for shits and giggles. Alcohol may have been involved... No worries here either. I'm not interested in making enimies, I'm just playing devils advocate. I would never try to prove you have an agenda(it can't be done usually) I was just stating that I thought one was in play and by stating that, it would become apparant if that were the case and you chose to address it. I mis interpreted your focus on dial misreads as an indictment on analog in general. I think digit misreads are just as common and don't understand the focus on dials (based on the OP not the poll wording). Being an old fart and accustomed to pulling @ 2k(when conditions merit), I don't have the same frame of reference as many persons who freak out under 2.5k in freefall. My own preference and admittedly biased opinion has more to do with the lack of frequency/preference of digital chest mounts and viewing angle. (viewing angle is improving) I don't think the misreads have as much to do with the format as they do the the frame of mind and/or needed attention to detail. YMMV PULL! jumpin_Jan "Dangerous toys are fun but ya could get hurt" -- Vash The Stampede

Using results from a poll with no option to dis agree with your foregone conclusions is falacious. (you claim 6 people agree with you in the other thread) I am of the opinion you have an agenda and are trying to manufacture data to prove your point. I'm old school, I use analog. Analog can be viewed from side more easily than a digital. (usable viewing angle) I never pulled early due to a misread. I wear mine chest mount too! With a chest mount others have the benifit of using my alti if they choose. With a chest mount can check while tracking. lol, I have pulled low and 'claimed' it was a misread though. Automotive People: I'm Getting Sheistered Again. Help. =(
jumpin_Jan replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
I feel your pain! Dealers are not the only ones. I got a car from Carmax and purchased Maxcare warranty. I took it in for 3 issues. 1. Coolant leak, I could smell antifreeze. 2. Belt squeeking 3. Engine surge when in reverse Plus I had them change the oil. $300 oil change was all I got. They could not find the coolant leak. I had to insist they pressure test it over time. They did not hear the squeek, they never warmed it up. They could not replicate the surge in reverse. The bimbo I had to deal with was ultra rude because I questioned her word. By the time they brought it up for checkout the service department was closed. Before I got out of the parkinglot it was squeeking like crazy and I could smell coolant. I had to go back and raise hell. I demanded they get their manager to return for me to speak to him. He was pissed but not as angry as I was. Eventually (the following day) they found the leak was causing the squeek but it cost me a return trip and another lost day. I spent the day waiting and getting contact info for the suits for formal complaints in writing. I'm still going round and round with them for the original charges since 2 things were related. I found and fixed a vacuume leak myself that their 95.00 inspection (for surging in reverse) missed. When I complained at the cashier they knew exactly who I was referring to so I sought out the sales manager while he was making a sales pitch. The rude cunt finally got fired for being lippy a week later. The moral of the story is, NEVER get an extended warranty, they are a waste of money! NEVER use a dealer or Carmax for service! As I promised them, I will never pass up an opportunity to steer people away from Carmax! And that is why I piped up on this subject! FYI I drive an '03 Subaru Outback H6-3.0, 22k on the odometer as of today, very low miles! I had only put 5k on it when I went in for service 29 months after purchase. I was under the impression it was metal and was found already folded in 1/2. I think I got that impression from an account from the finder that it was a scrap of sheet metal. In hindsight and having searched dizzy you are prolly correct as I see it described as a candy wrapper. The posts below suggest it was tin though. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3092696;search_string=placard;#3092696 My thinking is that it was wedged between the stair actuator handle and the wall of the stairway, unsuccessfully. some random airstair thoughts... Me thinks the placard was used in an attempt to get the stairs to stay open beyond a 2' opening for exit. I further surmised a few hundred posts ago that he musta fashioned something else when the placard did not work. I guessed he used suspension line or money. The 727-100 stairs have 2 methods of operation normal and emergency. The emergency mode breaks the locks that hold the stairs closed. Based on the pic I guess he used the normal procedure because they appear to be locked closed in Reno. http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/commerce/manuals/tp12296/scheduleA/section2.htm I read somewhere that the 727 definately had a skid plate mod available. The pic showing the closed stairs seems to show damage, possibly from over rotation on a previous flight. I doubt the stairs "slammed" closed after exit as Ckret said he thinks happened. In my mind the hydraulics would have prevented that. If the stairs had been locked down for takeoff it may have taken a lot of up elevator to compensate for the ventral 'airbrake'. @ 2.5 feet wide and about 12 feet long that's 30 square feet of surface area to compensate for. Americans skip commercial air travel because of hassles
jumpin_Jan replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
Absolutely!!! I was watching a PBS special about the history of the railroad, and when it started telling about the California Zephyr, I found myself thinking: "That sounds so cool; Why the hell can't we do that today?" The California Zephyr is still running. http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Amtrak/am2Route/Horizontal_Route_Page&c=am2Route&cid=1081256321209&ssid=10975 I wanna time a trip with a snowstorm on Bonner Pass for the added chance of chaos. Amtrak is going in the same direction as the airports as far as hoops to jump thru though. I made my last commercial flight in April 2004 from Chicago to Halifax NS and back. Traveling via air sucked! NS was a gassssss though! :) I vowed then and there, never again if I could avoid it. Jo, WTF makes you to think you are entitled to any explanations at all from the suits??? I don't get it. You made the claims, it is up to YOU to prove your claim. You appear to me to actually be obstructing the discovery process regarding other suspects. I never thought I would sympathize with the suits but I do. I'm glad I don't have to put up with your constant demands that they prove a negative. They have DNA and fingerprints. Your harping about changed prints ignores the fact that prints exist in more than one location for cross reference. Duane would have been printed each time he was arrested and again each time he was admitted to prison. The suits have no obligation to explain that to you or explain the method to their madness. I'm hope they don't waste any more of my tax dollars mollycoddling you. They gave you a listen and moved on based on the evidence they DO have. I think the REAL DB Cooper could show up at your door with Ed McMahon and a film crew, hand you one of the $20.00 bills and you would STILL claim it was Duane. I think it is funny (and sad) to see you hold yourself up to repeated ridicule. PULL! jumpin_Jan "Dangerous toys are fun but ya could get hurt" -- Vash The Stampede

One mans OPINION First and foremost don't bounce, get hurt or scare people! Do NOT weigh in on political issues if possible, keep your options open. You seem to have a grasp on being humble, work it! Listen to everyones bullshit, smile and nod a lot. Brown nosing has it's merits. ALWAYS offer to help the manifest with anything! (they will send people your way if they know you exist) Hand a cold glass of water to the hard working staff. Cold grapes on hot days are usually a hit too. Always bring beer. (or other beverages) Always suggest you need a first to get another case of beer. Offer to assist with cleaning aircraft windscreens during refueling if possible. If you brown nose the DZ staff other wanna be brown nosers will give you the time of day. Assist with layout of parachutes for those who pack for themselves (IE many cameramen). You can set pilot chutes, brakes and stretch out parachutes without affecting an opening. (GET SUPERVISION, have them check your work) Help shag tandems and assist students with daisy chaining lines, and pick up dragging pilot chutes. Be willing to get out of the way if that is most helpfull. Be willing to jump with anyone including those less experienced than you are. Sharing what you DO know will reinforce the process. This may be noticed by those with similar attitudes that have experience to share with you! A positive attitude has the best chance of producing positive results! Read 'Johnathan Livingston Seagull', TWICE minimum! I used to go to the used bookstores and buy every copy to gift to people.
