Someone realized it could be used to make money. Why are you surprised? The Olympics is about money-whoring, start-to-finish. This is news? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

Assuming that at 36 years old she still relies on her breasts for her self-esteem and feeling of worth is selling her short. Perhaps she has gotten over the idea of forever thinking that her breasts make her what she is. Perhaps she's matured and come to understand that fleeting youthful appearance and sex appeal are not a solid foundation, since they can disappear in an instant. That's why I respect her. I'm not discounting that what you raised is a tremendous issue that confronts any woman who has to go through that, but I want to give Ms. Applegate credit for being deeper than just someone who thinks, "My breasts are gone, so my life is over." Like you, I applaud her. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

No.. but that is what the fringe right religious whackjobs want you to believe.. So since you deride the republicans for claiming to, will you now deride the democrats for doing the same? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

Who says that gun advocates are "unaffected" by tragedy? There's a lie right there! Just because we don't say, "Oh, that tears it, we have to give up our guns!" does NOT mean we are discompassionate about tragedy. http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/08/12/germany.killings.ap/index.html?eref=rss_topstories http://archives.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/europe/04/26/germany.shooting/ I wonder what's wrong with those Germans! http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2004/nov/26/china?commentpage=1 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7442327.stm http://www.thenational.ae/article/20080812/FOREIGN/893905089/1040/ART China and Japan don't have a "gun culture" either, but no shortage of mass killings to be compassionate about. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/apr/18/japan.international Oh, and the gun crime in Japan occasionally takes out a MAYOR of a well-known city. I guess the Japanese people are just cold-hearted and uncaring, like us Americans. So the message is that the media is driving us to arm ourselves? I don't believe that the media have the power to make people shoot others, though. I agree that the media helped people turn schools into Temples of Absurdity. Expelling kids over Swiss Army Knives and such is a very liberal thing to do, though. Not something that pro-gunners support. Oh, yeah, now that you've made it so clear, I no longer believe that Moore was laying down an anti-gun platform. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

WTF did I SAY?!?! I already laid out a plan for what to do with the douchebags. I would like to know, though, what their intentions were. WHY do something that OBVIOUSLY would not withstand even a moment's scrutiny?! Was it worth having a few days worth of attention just to end up universally thought of as lying douchebags? 85-year-old woman forces intruder to call cops
birdlike replied to Butters's topic in Speakers Corner
Yup. Pity that if today is typical, some 33 people will be shot dead in the USA in homicides, plus another couple in accidents. Just collateral damage, it's all good. What is the solution? Why, suspend the Constitution, send troops and police door-to-door to rip apart people's homes, confiscate their guns, and destroy them. If it saves just one life it'll be worth it! We'll pretend that even if we get every single gun (criminal and non-criminal) destroyed, no one will be able to manufacture them underground to resupply those criminals who want them. 85-year-old woman forces intruder to call cops
birdlike replied to Butters's topic in Speakers Corner
Thanks for the amusing anecdote, but we know that this could not have actually happened. The Left is constantly telling us that people DO NOT successfully use guns for defense. They tell us that no one ever turns up any evidence that it happens. The Left would never LIE to us, so that proves to me that there are NO cases of successful defensive gun use. I'll bet that New Republic will soon get to the bottom of this story and find out for us that what actually happened was that she grabbed a broom and threatened the crook with a thrashing until he surrendered. If his message is that guns and gun ownership are bad, but he has to lie and misrepresent guns and gun ownership in order to make it something to be opposed, how is it that there's any "underlying message" to "still believe in"? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

THAT, he is very, VERY good at - until you start digging, as Ian did. I don't see that as being evidence of a talent. All it takes is a refusal to put forth what's objective; a willingness to utterly skew what is put forth; and then a pathological willingness to defend the lies, and to call anyone who exposes them liars, themselves. Come on, really, all Moore did was make a movie showing a version of reality that he wishes were true because his version makes gun owners and the pro-gun movement look bad. Like when he depicts himself walking out of a bank with a rifle he "got" for opening an account there. In fact, the bank does not (and never did) hand out rifles there at the bank. That scene was STAGED, FALSIFIED, to make it seem that's what went on. In truth, customers opening new accounts (with a minimum $1000 deposit) got vouchers toward gun purchases at a brick-and-mortar gun shop. And anyway, why would it be dangerous to give out an unloaded rifle in a bank in the first place? Anyone eligible to get one just handed you his identification (to open the account) and had to come in with $1000 to begin with. And if that person came up with $1000 in order to get a rifle and then intended to use that rifle there in the bank, wouldn't that person have just bought himself a gun with the $1000 and came in ready to rob the bank? But instead, Moore disingenuously asks the account rep if he thinks it's dangerous to give out rifles in a bank. He's purporting that that's what actually goes on, when that is simply a LIE. It made a more punchy scene, but it's still just nonsense when you clear awake the smoke. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

In the case of the gun issue in Bowling for Columbine, he first has to LIE and DISTORT to even establish that one side is "evil." Here is a link to one of many websites that thoroughly shreds the bullshit that Moore packed into BFC. If you think he's Mr. Good fighting all the Mr. Evils of the world (especially those evil evil pro-gunners), then read this site's offerings and see if you still believe Moore's lies. http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html A particularly good part is found if you scroll down until you see pictures of Charlton Heston. In the section above that, there is a link titled "CLICK HERE for the comparison." He dissects the OUTRIGHT DISTORTION that Moore deliberately put into the film, with regard to the speeches given by Heston and the claims Moore makes about them. Andy9o8, it's one thing to cheer someone who is trying to defeat evil. It's quite different when a guy like Moore has to LIE just to MAKE someone appear evil before trying to defeat him. Forcing businesses to provide for illegal workers

But there are real-life examples of things like that going on. It's not always blacks, of course. But where is it that whites move into a neighborhood and make it turn to shit? You haven't lived in southern Florida, have you, Billvon? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire -
*Strongly agree* Yeah, but as I said, "Ain't never gonna HAPPEN!" Why would we waste our time dreaming of giving violent criminals actual harsh punishment, as though the same liberals who oppose a painless, clinical execution would ever let us treat criminals as harshly as they deserve. It looks funny as hell to me in the previews. Then it got whalloped by our newspaper's reviewer (but then, anything that's "lowbrow" is beneath that snobbish fuck in the first place, so you can't trust a bad review from him if you're not some high-art pedant). How does it compare to, say, Anchorman? (That was the funniest movie I ever thought wouldn't be funny but then was! I particularly loved the gang fight in the parking lot!) Of the ones listed, I picked Corn Flakes, because they're great plain, you can use 'em to making fried foods "breaded," and when you have 'em for breakfast, you can make 'em as sweet or not sweet as you want!

Yeah, I just can't get enough of my own balls! Two of the best friends I've ever had! Hahaha, it's funny that you mentioned this in connection with Johnny Dangerously, one of the funniest comedies I've ever seen. Great film

Maybe he, like me, doesn't see the need to say such a thing just because of the event of a sneeze. What's the folklore about it? Why do people say "God bless you" for a sneeze, but not a cough or a burp or a hiccup? I think I remember hearing that people used to think that you were not far from death when you sneezed (silly -- asinine, really). It doesn't bother me to have someone not say it--unless it's conspicuous, like they say it for other but not for some. Then, you're like, "Oh, playing favorites, are you?" I thought I saw something about it not having as much of the Omega 3 fatty acids or something, but "as bad as eating a doughnut"? Come onnnn! Besides, yes, I'm frying it, but in vegetable oil, not lard or shortening or something! Vegetable oil's got no cholesterol, and not all that much saturated fat (although it does have some). The only thing to worry about's calories, right? It's 120 calories per Tbsp. I have no idea how many tablespoons of the oil end up ingested. I mean, I'm frying in it, but I'm not ladling the oil onto the fish in a bowl like stew!... Plus, I don't eat that much fish all that often, only when the mood strikes me. "Who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity"
birdlike replied to birdlike's topic in Speakers Corner
This always pisses me off, because it gets glossed over without anyone really contemplating the meaning. How many times do you read information in a newspaper article that is attributed to someone who "spoke with reporters on condition of anonymity, because he is not authorized to speak with the media"? What the FUCK, man?! Oh, a police officer, or FBI guy, etc., feels it's ok to disobey the order from above that says, "Don't leak anything to the media," because he does it anonymously?! That makes it all right? Personally, when I read that, it pisses me off. It indicates that whoever it is, whatever their position, they do their job unethically. They pass along information they have been specifically told they may not--and then they hide behind their anonymity. Shouldn't we be concerned that there are people in positions of trust who are obviously LEAKS? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire -
My big objection is that the liberals in the U.S. stand in the way of capital punishment as much as possible, and the alternatives that they leave open are never near harsh enough. Like you said, run it like a military prison. But suggest that to the liberals, and they get squicked-out and would never allow it. So what the fuck does it leave us? Coddled criminals.
