  1. OK, so now that all the people with Infinitys have voted, it's time for the rest of you to get in there... Seriously - a third of all new rig purchases are Infinitys? Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just wouldn't have guessed it. Canuck
  2. Yep, a front riser on one side (left say), and a toggle on the other (right). I have done it with a rear riser too, but prefer to use a toggle for both ease and feel. For the actual CRW guys (sequential team), they most often use it to drop into a slot that they have overshot and are sitting high and in front of, or to drop down a level or two without having to make a big out and in move. You can definitaly feel it when you're in the flight mode. Like I said, it feels kinda like just pre-stall, but the canopy still feels rigid and controlable. Can't think of a damn thing I would use it for other than videoing CRW though... Canuck
  3. It puts the canopy into something just short of stall mode. It reduces forward speed, but doesn't really increase lift. The canopy is still totally controlable though. Too much and I suppose it would stall, which I guess could in turn cause the "helicopter" situation. Anyway, with such a mismatched canopy to their Tri 135s, I find it quite effective for staying in a nice spot behind them, as opposed to sashaying for the whole dive. Canuck
  4. About whatever you could buy a new HC21 for right now. Up here that would be about $450 CDN, so I'm guessing somewhere around $400 US. Canuck
  5. Plastic ring = "What the fuck am I supposed to do with this? Wear it? Does he expect me to still be wearing it the next time he sees me?" Chocolates??? Is the plan to plump her up so other dudes don't hit on her? Perfume = "What, do I stink? You don't like the perfume I already have? And where the fuck is the bonus pack - probably gave it to some other girl!!!" Cheese is cheese dude. Just be nice, actually listen when she's talking, do shit that is fun for both of you, and when all else fails, impress her with the good 'ole skydiver card. Canuck
  6. What happens when you do it on a high-aspect ratio 9 cell though? try it, you will see. i think i've heard it called a helicopter before. Nah, doesn't do anything like that at all. The sequential team I do video for sometimes call it "cross-control". I've done it on my Stiletto 107 loaded in the 1.9 range a few times to help stay behind them - no helicopter. Never tried it on my Velo, but I suspect it would be no different. Canuck

As is the case with any type of skydiving, tunnel time can for sure be an asset to your skill development, but can/will never be able to fully replace what can/must be learned by doing the real thing. The exit is often the most challenging and critical part of an AFF jump - you can't practice those in the tunnel. I do see potential for practicing student spin and inverted flight recovery in a tunnel, although I also see potential for a lot of injuries practicing these moves in such a confined space. I beleive somebody who has done the jumps to accumulate 6 hours of freefall is going to be a much better overall skydiver than someone who has spent 6 hours in a tunnel. Someone who has done both will be better than either... Canuck
  8. ...unless you are going to run into something, run into somebody, have somebody run into you, etc. If you spend any amount of time in this sport, eventually it's going to happen, so better to acknowledge that and figure out how to do it safely than pretend that it's never going to happen. Canuck
  9. It seems to me that the Team Xaos boys (specifically Jeffro, Andy, and TJ when he was with them) spend a lot more time developing their freestlye than the classic swoop disciplines. I don't know if they were the first, but certainly some of the first to be doing blind-mans and ghostriders in particular. I'm sure if these guys practiced running blades all day instead, you would see them on the podium more often. Canuck
  10. Ooops. The dates are actually the last week in March. Does that change anything much? Thanks, Canuck
  11. My team is planning a training camp for the end of March, and are leaning towards Davis (cheap jumps and coaching from Guano). A few questions for any Davis regulars: 1. How is the weather that time of year? 2. Does the PAC fly on weekdays that time of year (or ever) or would it mean 182 jumps Monday through Thursday? 3. How busy does it get on weekends? How many PAC loads fly on a typical day? Thanks, Canuck edited to fix the dates
  12. Damn you Ian! I knew as soon as I hit post, you were going to get all high and mighty about your Sidewinder. If you're happy with it, then that's all that matters, but they are NOTHING like an Infinity other than the very basic aesthetics. Are you and Maria coming to the Invasion this year? Canuck
  13. Well, considering that all the "other" rigs have now added up to a whopping 5%, I think it's probably safe to guess that the PdF share is no more than 2%. So, once again, I would hardly say that counts as one of the "biggie" manufactures, which is what this poll is about. Not that there is anything wrong with Atom containers - I think they are probably the best thing coming out of Europe, and certainly better than our absolutely shitty Canadian made Sidewinder. Canuck
  14. Yeah, I thought about making it only rigs bought in the last 10 years, but then I thought better to keep the poll simple. So far I'm quite suprised with the results. I would have expected Sunpath to be up much higher. I bet if second hand rigs were included, they would be just from all the old sponsored rigs in circulation out there. Canuck
  15. I didn't put the Canadian made rigs in either. And why are you busting my balls - you jump a Wings Seriously, as of this morning, all of the "other" rigs don't add up to the next two lowest selling manufactures combined. Canuck
  16. But how many of them are you currently jumping, as per the poll instructions? Canuck
  17. Doesn't count if you just buy em to sell em! Canuck
  18. Huh...? Your profile says Mirage... Canuck
  19. So lets find out what manufacture is selling the most new containers. NEW ONLY - if you bought second hand, you don't get to play, and only rigs that you currently own. If you are fully sponsored, then only click on that option, not that and the manufacture who you are sponsored by. It's set up for multiple votes if you have more than one rig. Yes, I know there are lots of other manufactures, but these are the biggies. Canuck
  20. I've read on here somewhere that somebody has a VX 142 or something like that, so yes, they do make them larger. Canuck
  21. Read AggieDave's whole post, and check his profile. He jumps a Crossfire2 149 already, and found that the Crossfire2 139 didn't handle the loading well (he's an ape), so he can't really go any smaller in a Crossfire, but doesn't want to make a 30 sq. ft. downsize to a Velo 120. Canuck
  22. Because PD never said they were releasing a 135 or 150 Velo. Same reason nobody is asking why the Spectre 79 hasn't been released... Canuck
  23. The principal at the the school I got my first teaching job at told me later that he had shortlisted my resume because of the skydiving listed on it. I showed up for the interview at the second school I taught at limping from a bad landing - which I was very up front about. Apparently it didn't count against me. I beleive having it on my resume has done me more good than harm. Canuck
  24. Ah, c'mon Frost - don't you want to go round two on this one? I've changed my mind on the topic since Roq explained that the Onyx is the best braced canopy out there, and would hands down beat every other canopy on the market with any pro pilot under it. Canuck
  25. Smart, hands down. If anything from Precision, then get a R-max. Why no PD? Price? You'll get it all back on resale... Canuck
