  1. To what end? I think you should seriously talk with your fellow moderator (DSE) about this subject. Otherwise you're going to come off as an uninformed person blowing smoke here. Muff #5048
  2. I'm the guy wearing the camera, so everyone you see in the vid is not me. Actually it is. Could be optical distortion, but the guy in the yellow/white suit has a mudflap mounted Galaxy, an Optima in his helmet and a Fly Sight GPS. Muff #5048
  3. Yes. I've also never left a buddy in distress. Let's say next to worst case scenario happens, he blacks out from the spin and takes it all the way to Cypres fire height at which point the Cypres fires and his life is saved. He's still going to be off the DZ and probably pretty messed up. I know if that were me, I'd like a buddy there. And hey, YOU are the one that challenged us to find something wrong with the jump. Don't bitch just because I'm pointing it out. Ok then. Have you ever been in a wingsuit at freefall speeds with the capability of "helping" a fellow jumper? My guess is highly fucking unlikely. Get over your "high and mighty savior of all" complex and I think you MAY gain a bit of insight to the real skydiving world. Muff #5048

  5. Yes. But after he burned a few thousand feet in it, we (me and my buddy) figured to each his own, and flew the rest of the dive plan. So, wait, you saw a buddy of yours was spinning out of control on exit and you both decided to just merrily fly away? Seriously? So what would you have us do? Pull for him? Oh, yeah that would have been impossible. So yes! We flew our merry way into the sunset and had good fun doing so. Seriously, Have YOU ever jumped a wingsuit? Muff #5048
  6. DAMNIT!!! I threw them in the wash.... Oh yeah... My old lady disappeared While I was at the DZ today. That's another matter though. Muff #5048
  7. Yes. But after he burned a few thousand feet in it, we (me and my buddy) figured to each his own, and flew the rest of the dive plan. Muff #5048
  8. This was a great wingsuit flight me and my buddy Tom did today. I CHALLENGE you drama-zone people to point out ONE thing I did wrong on this jump. The jump was great, The deployment was awesome, and the pattern was good. JUST ONE! that is all I'm asking for to point out where I could have done better on this jump (BTW, I'm the guy flying the camera... Not the guy who got in a flat spin on exit). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9iRirDUY1k Muff #5048
  9. "Rocked" is right. But this entire post is in jest of the snag hazards small format cameras cause. The camera I used in the vid was a Sony CX110 with a Cookie cage side mounted. Kind of like thumbing the nose at those who discourage the GoPro's, Contours... etc.. Muff #5048
  10. Honestly, I just bought this canopy not too long ago. I dont fingertrap the excess until I've made at least 20 jumps on a canopy. Past that.... I'm a lazy motherfucker! Muff #5048
  11. So in this vid you will see a horrible mal just after touchdown!!! Will I ever get my jumpsuit clean? How am I going to get the pea gravel dust off my rig? Will I ever be able to get all the dirt out of my canopy? Seriously though, this is just meant to be humor at my expense. And if you notice, I'm flying a nice predictable pattern (for those who have read my other thread in the safety fuckum).
  12. As I'm sitting here I can't help but wonder how many people have walked into my favorite. I like to walk in the stairwell, bust a load of ass gas, then "crop dust" my way to the second floor. Anyone who walks in is MY VICTIM!!! So what are some others? Muff #5048
  13. It's a microcosm of religion. There are people whose lives are being fucked because they believe his horseshit. Why the hell would someone listen to the rantings of someone who resembles Karl Childers? Seriously, this is the first thing that came to the brain when I heard the guy (see link). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbL-0gJLGRM Muff #5048
  14. I hear ya Shah! On my way back from F&D 7.0 I had to sit beside a dude that was such a fucking lard-ass he had to use TWO (yes TWO) of those lap belt extensions. Since you can't really do shit about it here is Mike Miller's solution to the problem (and what I ended up doing). First, before ANY flight in which I will not be egressing the plane in mid flight I usually get fairly buzzed simply because I don't trust the pilot, and if the fucker puts us into the side of the mountain I want to be sleeping at the time. If, after boarding, some fat fucker sits beside me I start ordering more drinks till the eyes get heavy. Then I pass out and use the disgusting hunk of life as a pillow. They are then forced to smell your alcohol laden breath and "deal" with any beer farts that happen while you're out. Just take the "uncomfortable" to the ones making you feel that way!
  15. Ive got a question. Why is this loony getting as much attention as he is? Lets face FACTS here. 1. Anyone can read the Bible and interpret it in any number of different ways. 2. This is a really OLD guy ranting on and on. Why the hell does some old fart get all this attention because of something they choose to believe in? I've got a damn good speculation as to why he may believe what he does. As I've said, HE'S OLD!!! Old people often seek ways to "ease their mind", as it were, about post death matters. It seems to me that this guy is scared out of his mind of dieing. He WANTS the rapture to happen soon (because he ain't got long left). Anywho, that's my assumption as to why he may think the way he does, but the question still remains. WHY THE HELL DOES ANYONE CARE WHAT THIS GUY SAYS? For the record, I didn't even know about any of this before today (guessing because I spend more time on porn sites then I do news ones). Muff #5048
  16. This will be my last post in this thread. This thread was supposed to be an educational/informative thread with the purposes of both "here's how I screwed up so others can learn from it" and "here's an effective way of informing an offending jumper to alter their behavior". In fine dz.com fashion, it has come to mindless bickering. To that end I will NO LONGER post anything safety related that I learn on this site (and I would discourage others from doing the same due to the jackassery). I will continue to discuss safety related things that may be brought to my attention VIA PM's, but this entire forum can eat a dick as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure I would jump with most (if not all) of you guys who posted here and even buy you a beer after the last wheels up. It's discouraging that we can't have a discussion online as we would in real life. When I posted this, I did so in good faith that we could discuss and educate others the danger of complacency and how to approach someone in a constructive way. This can't be done here. 17. I wear it most of the time. If I'm just driving from my appartment parking lot to the joining gas staion parking lot (read I'm not on a road at any point) then no... Unless I see a cop car in either parking lot, but even then, I've driven by cops in parking lots not wearing my seatbelt and so far no tickets. Out on the road is a different story. It's buckled 100% of the time out there. Muff #5048
  18. Thanks for the info. I was kind of hoping that someone with a higher perscription than mine would chime in. Since you say it doesn't distort for you then that gives me a good bit of confidence ordering a pair. Are they so close to your eyes that your eyelashes brush up against them? This is another thing that annoyed me with the Wiley-X's I tried. Also, on the Liquid website it says they come with Polycarbonate lenses. I found that with the Wiley-X polycarb the lenses are quite heavy and thick. Are these thinner/lighter? Thanks again.
  19. Here's another question. What perscriptions do you guys have? Ive tried using Wiley-X's (several different types) and found that due to the curvature of the lense and my perscription strength is causes MASSIVE distortion nearing the outter 1/3 of the lense. Basically, if I end up spending yet another couple hundred bucks on glasses I want to make damn sure they work. My perscription is: Right: Sphere +4.50, Cylinder -.25, Axis 161 Left: Sphere +4.00, Cylinder -.50, Axis 176 Muff #5048
  20. OK. So some of you think pulling someones reserve will somehow instill education and compliance. I don't agree with this and here's why... Sure if I fuck up you can sneak up and yank my silver (an event that you would likely regret), but what does that to to (re)-educate someone about why what they were doing was wrong? To add on that where does it stop? "Sorry I sliced your tire because the way you drive is unsafe" (BTW, a tire on my car cast about as much as a reserve repack), or " I burned your house to the ground because you smoke inside and dont replace the batteries in your smoke detectors.. I did you a FAVOR!!". My bottom line is you don't fuck with someone else's shit PERIOD! Now into the discussion regarding correcting behavior. In the military, if I fuck up the first thing that happens is I get "talked to" (prob why I was so receptive when it happened at the dz). If you do not correct your behavior after that you get paperwork (the bad kind that starts a trail for future incidences). Pretty much after that you get the boot. Now in the "talking to" portion of this you are told what you did wrong and how to correct it (note, you aren't beaten, or have your valuables messed with here). This would equate to "being talked to" in skyjumping. Usually this step is enough as it was for me. After that you talk about grounding then past that banning. Ill admit, Ive done STUPID SHIT under canopy and it's damn lucky that it was under the perfect conditions to ensure my, and other jumpers safety. I won't be making these sort of mistakes again. The 270 in the vid I posted (which isn't the vid of the pattern I got talked to about) WAS STUPID! I thought I had cleared my airspace, but even doing that in traffic is STOOPID!!! My endgame for this thread is for people to learn and to not make the same mistakes as me (lucky as I may have been). Also, it is to be receptive to the criticism of your S&TA and DZO. Thats all I'm trying to accomplish here. And yes Pops, the jump in the vid was not the same jump that prompted this thread (though what I did in that vid was unsafe too, hence the nothing but 90's in the pattern from now on) -Mike Muff #5048
  21. Wow. Don't really know how we devolved to a legal discussion. All I was trying to point out is that a good "talk" with a "why" and a "this is how you can do this stuff safely" was all it took for me. Another thing to consider... I primarily fly wingsuits at my DZ with ONE other person. That pretty much means we have NOBODY to worry about come landing time (except each other and I always usually land first as I like to film his openings). This has got me complacent in regards to canopy flight and traffic patterns. Even as an experienced jumper, all it took for me to "cut it out" was a civil discussion with the S&TA. All that other shit (pulling reserves/cutaways) is moot conjecture IMO. Be safe, -Mike Muff #5048
  22. Sorry, That was the wrong video. Muff #5048
  23. Must have been Twardo Wait...WHAT?! I suck at art so you fags can piss off. BTW, what did guys like Twardo use as parachutes 2000 years ago? Muff #5048
  24. This. And if you'll notice the camera never sees the green canopy the whole time (I saw him though). Also, after landing I had enough time to get the toggles out of my hands and shut off the camera before the guy I cut off landed. Again, it's more of a "don't do it because this isn't the behavior that should happen in the pattern. Vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqnRxGKy1RA So was it the fact that you did a 270 into the main landing area that the S&TA objected to? Not exactly. The "main" landing area is our only landing area. I did a 270 knowing that the speed of my canopy would put me far below and ahead of the jumper I cut off. He objected to doing this ANY traffic regardless of situational awareness. His reasoning is sound. If I do it and some junior jumper sees and thinks its ok for them to do then we start breeding an unsafe "if he can do it so can I" attitude. My S&TA even told me different locations and approaches to make such a maneuver in a safer manner while he was talking to me. And thats another thing, when people approach me with a "this was a bad idea and heres why, but heres how you can do what you want in a safer manner" I tend to listen and appreciate the advice given more. Muff #5048
  25. This. And if you'll notice the camera never sees the green canopy the whole time (I saw him though).
