  1. Thanks Lisa ....are you sure you want 19 more messages from me? Brett
  2. Lisa How do I get that goddamn 'newbie' thing offa my profile? Brett "It's only arrogance if you can't back it up"
  3. As far as the pilot is concerned, a tandem rig is just like any other piece of skydiving equipment. Brett
  4. ...and hearin lies the problem. Who is LEGALLY responsible? Is there any entity LEGALLY responsible for setting procedures? I'm saying NO! The FAA leaves it very ambiguous. I think by design. If you read it literally, a tandem jump is now a legal, accepted, and NORMALLY REGULATED way of jumping out of an airplane. The only entities that are able to stop me from doing a tandem, with anyone, are dropzones! And they'll only do that if it's financially detrimental. brettpobastad
  5. Scott I have two trivia questions for you and a question that I need an answer to. What was the name of the jumper that created the design for the 'Geek Brothers' t-shirts? Who is Geek Brother #69 ? How do you spell Frank's last name? Brett
  6. Hey Scott! I think you must be the same Scott/Peckerhead that jumped at Ralph's when I was there! Very cool! I don't know if you remember this or not but I made a stupid bet with you that I could beat you in an accuracy contest. You kicked my ass, of course. Those were great times. ...and humbling. So what did I get wrong about the 'Geek Brothers' thing? You are wrong when you say that Zeke spent a lot of his own time and money representing the sport. I don't know how much money he spent, of course, but he represented exactly TWO dropzones; Ralph's and Jesse's. At that point in our sport, that kind of attitude was inexscusable. Back then, the small DZ still had a place in this sport and Zeke chose to kowtow to the dropzones that afforded him the most votes or deference. I don't have much respect for someone who makes a statement about a DZ without having ever been there. I'll take Roger Nelson over Zeke Lenn anytime! Brett Martin
  7. Toledo is located two miles east of interstate 5. Exactly one hour north of Portland, Oregon and about two hours south of Seattle. Come on down anytime. You will always have a place to crash. Brett ps i note that you are a graphic designer as well. looked at your stuff...not to shabby, girl!
  8. Smiley Face! Thank you for the kind words! No, I am not a writer. I'm going to college for graphic design. I'm glad you like the site. Visit often. I try to keep it current. Brett
  9. I've been jumping for a lot of years and I owned and operated a DZ for eight of those years. I feel qualified to say that I've seen both the good and bad...and know the difference. My vote goes to BOB DAUGHS. He operates a small DZ in cental Oregon. Always in a good mood. Allows the athmosphere to happen. Great skydiver and pilot. Brett
  10. All these discussions and nary a mention (good or bad) about the DZO! We may hate 'em on a day to day basis but we couldn't do without 'em either. Who is your favorite drop zone owner ...and why? Brett
  11. How do you define a packer induced malfunction?
  12. It depends on where and what type of DZ but the most cost effective aircraft for jump operations is a Cessna 182. They are reasonably priced, easy to fly, easy and inexpensive to work on and students (who are what makes a DZ profitable) aren't yet turbine snobs. Doesn't every DZ have one?
  13. Lisa What if you buy used equipment or otherwise don't sign the agreement? Brett
  14. Tandem equipment manufacturers only make equipment. As much as they may want to keep a measure of control when it comes to training and procedures, it's legally out of their hands.
  15. Back in about 1986 or 1987, Roger Nelson purchased an ad in either 'Skydiving' or 'Parachutist'. I can't remember which one. The ad was designed to induce jumpers NOT to vote for Zeke Lenn, who was running for Northwest Conference Director. I don't remember the full content of the ad but at the bottom it read: 'A vote for Zeke is a vote for a geek'. At Ralph Hatley's DZ in Estacada, Oregon, the jumpers started the idea of having a 'Geek Brother's' convention. Kind of a play on the whole 'Freak Brother's' / Roger Nelson / convention thing. They had t-shirts and Geek Brother's numbers and all that. For a number of years, the boogie went back and forth from Ralph's DZ one year to the Farrington's DZ in Kapowsin. I don't know what Roger's beef was with Zeke but I'm sure it was justified. Zeke wasn't the best CD the Northwest ever had.
  16. Toledo Parachute Center (now Skydive Toledo) in Washington state just north of Portland. Continuous since 1972
  17. My first jump was on a 28TU. Then I put a buncha jumps on a PC. The first square that owned was a Para-flite Cruise-Aire.
  18. I agree with the Karma guy. Nobody loathes this Jeff Dow character more than I do. But to make a statement to the effect that he deserves to be dead, well...I would like to think we are above all that. Have you confronted Mr. Dow? Probably not. I sense much talk and little action. We cannnot 'wish away' or 'anger away' Mr. Dow or the story that KIRO calls news. But we have to do something. Every skydiver has to do something. At the very least send an Email voicing your opinion to the station. We can't take back what has happened but we can add our collective voices to the aftermath. Brett Martin www.thepoopsheet.com
  19. Where did you get your information leading you to believe that Kapowsin has a high accident rate? They don't.
  20. Sorry DD....I didn't mean for it to be a poll. Embarrasingly enough, I couldn't figger out how to do a regular thread ....thing.
  21. "Been there, Done That" That's the best you could come up with? Did you also 'get the T-shirt'? geeez
