  1. QuoteThe just out of high school bimbetts that stand in the isles trying to sell me stink-purdy soap, Hollywood star perfume, or do my nails with the new 'wonder sander' of the week... LOOK at me you idiot....OLD, UGLY & GRUMPY are NOT your target market! ***Well, I for one think you're very pretty. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  2. That was a fine demo indeed! Enjoyed meeting you. BTW,That TEXAS 20 way had 3 Florida boys in it. (I'm top right) John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  3. QuoteDude, he has a Tennessee Vols cap on. It's fairly obvious why he's a klutz. ***Dude, he doesn't just "have it on", it's sewn to his head. GO VOLS! John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  4. QuoteManta 210 ***You might have been jumping a 210, but I believe a Manta is 288 sq ft. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  5. I'm sure I'll get bashed by the all coddlers and sunshine blowers here, but I want you to live forever and maybe jump with you some day. Let me start by saying I'm glad you're alright, and that doing something is always better than doing nothing. That being said, if you were a low time jumper at my DZ and this happened, my 1st question would be "why did you immediately go to your emergency procedure on a low speed problem so far above decision altitude?" I know that you might think that the canopy was "diving hard", but if a broken steering line was your only problem, then you didn't really need to be in such a rush. If you have a toggle fire(toggle comes unstowed) it will do exactlty the same thing, and I know you don't want to cut away from an unstowed toggle. Your 1st instinct if your canopy opens in a turn should be to reach up and unstow both toggles, this will usually stop the turn and only takes a second. Once the canopy is flying straight, then re-evaluate. If you don't feel comfortable landing on your rear risers by your decision altitude, then by all means, cut away. Never 2nd guess your reserve, but don't to use it if you don't have to. Happy jumping! John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  6. QuoteBig deal. I have stood 2 feet in front of her on more than 1 occasion and she had no idea who I was. ***She's never talked to me and I once threw myself on a grenade to protect her, oh wait, maybe that was in a movie. Never mind. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

  11. The only guys I'm really imtimidated by are the ex-fighter pilots/JAG officers that are now working covertly as secret agents, posing as packers and video guys. We have several at my DZ. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  12. That is stable belly fly in student gear. In the last 5 jumps I've maxed out at 156 consistently. Maybe I need a baggy jumpsuit. *** Maybe you should get some coaching by Jenny Craig. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  13. Kudos on losing the weight (if you needed it), but cutting back on food so that you can jump more? John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  14. This are my final thoughts on this thread as it is getting dull. I was talking about acting like a grown up and being considerate of others at the DZ, but since it has turned into a child at the DZ thing, I'll finish on that. I've only been going to the DZ for about 18 yrs now, but my experience has been that I have NEVER had an instance where having children around has taken away from my fun, in fact, just the opposite is true. Have kids ever inadvertantly stepped on my lines? Of course they have, but so have about 500 skydivers. Have I ever had to get my helmet back from a child because they were playing Star Wars with it? Sure have, but it's never something that could'nt be fixed by asking them not to do that anymore. I can tell you with certainty that I've never had to throw away packing carpet because some drunk child vomited all over it. I've never had to ask a child to quit using phrases like "stupid niggers" or "Fucking dumbshits" in a crowded pacing area because they thought it was their right. I've also never had to drag a child, drunk and unconcious out of the classroom in the morning so that I could teach as class. All this and more I have had to do with "adult Skydivers". You may have Zero responsibility for my child, but rest assured that you are responsible for your actions when you're around my child. Given your limited time in the sport, I find it hard to believe that you've had all that many issues with kids unless you're incredibally thin skinned. This is just my opinion, but I believe that children are a blessing and I feel sad for those that think otherwise. How sad and angry must a person be to dislike children? 15. QuoteActually, I find more jumpers use profanity than not on a DZ. Kinda comes with the personality type that is a skydiver. That doesn't mean everybody, but I am saying most because you defined the people who use profanity as "not normal," and "adolescent." If you want to get into that argument, line me up 10 random jumpers from your DZ and give me the number of those that use any type of profanity in their language throughout the day. I am willing to bet it will be majority of them. I think you should re evaluate what is "normal," and watch the backdoor attacks by labeling people as "adolescents" who choose to use such language. *** I was in the Navy 21 yrs, so I know a word or two myself, I simply pay attention to when and where I use them. Also, I never made Backdoor attacks on anyone, I'm right up front about it. If a person doesn't have the decency or ability to curb his/her words or actions when they are inappropriate, or if they feel it's their right to act however they please, whenever they please, then that is adolescent behavior. If anyone is offended by this, I don't care, they aren't my target demographic. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  16. QuoteBingo, Millertime!!! You summed up exactly what I would have said to this myself and hit the nail on the head! *** Perhaps there should be a quiet spot at the DZ where the adolecents can cuss and be as obnoxious as they want, away from the regular people. Of course I realize that it's not as much fun as when you share it with everyone, kinda like cigarette smoke. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  17. QuoteThis is why, on balance, I don't think kids belong at DZs - it's an adult playground, not a theme park. ***I've heard this "Dz is an adult playground" argument alot. The thing is, if you can't express yourself without offending people around you, then you're not an adult, and that argument is moot. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  18. QuoteSo, I'm not flaming you when I ask this, I'm just curious...are you embarrassed at all by your behavior? And five years from now, do you think you'll be fine with this thread being on the internet where anyone can read it, i.e. a potential mate for life? *** Skydivers generally don't mate for life. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  19. QuoteHis life was tragedy in a million different ways but a lot of it was self-inflicted. He could have made different choices but didn't. *** BINGO! MJ supporters are quick to say that he never had a chance to lead a normal life. What a total load of shit! He had far more choices/chances in life than most of us will ever have. Most every negative thing in his life was totally self induced. I bet most of his supporters would be talking out of the other side of their mouth if he was sleeping with their 10 yr old son. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  20. QuoteWe all make mistakes. His may be true or false. We will never know for sure. ***At the very least, he slept with young boys in his bed, that you and I know FOR SURE. If Joe shit the ragman next door slept with young boys from the neighborhood, I'm pretty sure you'ld be at his door with torches. But somehow, because MJ was a celebrity, it's ok and he's just quirky. I can't deny that he was gifted musically, but no amount of talent can excuse his sick and perverted lifestyle. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  21. QuotePeople block ERs with 'not feeling good'? - Jeeze no wonder they charge you ... ER is for EMERGENCIES. ***I Must agree, far too many people use the emergency room as their primary health care. Alot of those do it because they cannot refuse to treat you. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  22. QuoteI just completed my AFF 3-5 Sat would have done more but we ran out of daylight. But I am having so much fun.
