  2. QuoteDiana's death really emphasised this weird celebrity culture sickness at the heart of society. I found the whole public outpouring of grief depressing and embarrassing - people who refuse to speak to members of their own family, wailing at the 'loss' of someone they didn't even know except as a half-real figure on TV. *** Exactly the same thing when Michael Jackson died, People that didn't know him from Adam collectively sobbing in the streets. Pathetic John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

  4. QuoteWhy does he have a job? Who fucking cares? It's a god damned game. Get a life and actually do something productive like finding a cure for cancer instead of wasting time watching 300 lb guys wearing spandex hitting each other. Sheesh. *** I think Buddha summed it up best when he said, "Don't tie your happiness to the goings on of a bunch of sweaty a$$holes. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

  6. Listen to Sky Mama. Palatka sounds like just the place you're looking for, and you wont have to jump by yourself. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  7. QuoteOnes to stay away from are Palatka, Tutisville, Miami, Jacksinville etc as they are more like well oiled tandem factories. *** Palatka is a well oiled Tandem factory? You've obviously never been to Palatka. I remember not very long ago, a couple of jumpers from one of your premier DZ's could'nt believe it when Art bumped a couple of tandems to get a few more fun jumpers on the load.(Not uncommon) Skydive Palatka has been my home DZ since it's inception, and it has never, ever been a tandem mill. You will not find a friendlier, more welcoming group of jumpers and staff anywhere. Tandem Factory? Please John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

  9. QuoteWay back when I was first jumping, I had the unpleasant experience of seeing a guy bust himself up really bad, crashing a square. He was one of the most experienced guys on the DZ, and the life of all the DZ parties. His smoking hot GF always accompanied him to the DZ and the parties. Well, as soon as they got him into the ICU, his wife and kids, (that none of us even knew existed), showed up and kept a vigil at his bedside for the month he was there. His GF made herself scarce until he was out of the hospital, and AFAIK, the family never learned about her. ***That's a beautiful story. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  10. QuoteOn a crw jump, I managed to fly over, topdock, and release the tension knot on a teammate's canopy. On a competition jump at Nationals! top *** That's what I'm talking about. A real crw dog would cutaway and finish the dive on their reserve. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  11. QuoteI solved them once. I had opened at altitude for a CRW jump so I had tons of time to work with. I had a knot high up on my right side causing me to turn. I stopped the turn by pulling opposite riser while I worked on the problem. Pumping brakes and risers did nothing until I noticed one slack line. On one of my right connector links (forget which one) I noticed one line was slack and not pulled taut like the rest. I reached up, grabbed the loose line and tugged on it and poof the problem was cleared... You left your crw buds hanging for a tension knot!!! 14. I'm not a helo pilot, but I've been working on them all my adult life. What's your question? John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  15. Riser turns are already part of student training, and if your buddy doesn't understand their function, this part of training was blown off, or he wasn't paying attention. I think that a 10 to 20 minute lesson covering canopy aerodynamics in the FJC is adequate to get them in the air. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  16. The real reason we're not supposed to puch clouds is that you don't know what's in there with you. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  17. You are never done training, but you can certainly complete most, if not all of the AFF syllabus in ten days if you go at it like you mean it. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

  19. It is a great place to jump, but there are absolutely no women there. All the hot women are in Palatka, as a matter of fact, one is issued to each student. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  20. I just did retraining this past weekend for a guy that got to lvl 6 in 2000, then had to stop for medical reasons unrelated to jumping. Initially, my plan was to get a feel for what he retained and retrain from there. Long story short, I ended up pretty much teaching the entire FJC (didn't get paid for one though) and starting him out on C1. My advice is to go through the course again, it certainly can't hurt you, and although 108 military SL jumps is quite an accomplishment, it doesn't really help you out much AFF wise. 23. I have a lot of experience dealing with this very issue as I am an AFF instructor. I think the best way is just to tell them straight out that you're not interested, then strip and have monkey sex with them. They will become so confused that they will just wander away and everything will be okay. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
