  1. I understand how gravity works, but lately I feel not so much like I'm being dragged down as pushed from above. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

  5. The last Texxas 20 way I was on was at the Cenntenial of Flight in Kitty Hawk, Of course the core of the formation was 3 Handsome boys from Forida. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  6. QuoteIt's more selfish to bring children into a world where they'll be squished between limited job availability + dropping wages (seemingly competent labor in less expensive emerging markets and increased productivity do that) and increasing costs of living at the other (government intervention in the housing, education, and health care markets on behalf of corporatist interests does that). Even if you're financially well-off enough to provide a middle class lifestyle for your children indefinitely, their reduced opportunities for self-actualization and progress beyond the odyssey years can't be good psychologically. ***What an awesome outlook! I wanna party with you sometime. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  7. Quote There it is. You're thinking in terms of material possessions and personal entertainment, instead of on the richly rewarding emotional experience of raising kids and having a family. If that's what you want, that's fine, I'm not knocking it. Yes, kids are expensive and time consuming, but there's nothing else in the world as rewarding or fulfilling in the long run. If you wait until the finances are right, you'll never get there, because there's never enough money. Heck, I raised two kids starting as a Marine Corps Private making $4k per year. We managed despite the lack of money. Sometimes I envy those folks who spend their youth freewheeling around spending lots of money on themselves, owning nice things, and doing grand stuff. Sometimes I wish I could have lived my life like that. But then, I have two great kids, and that's even better. And then I wonder what their life is like when they get older, no longer have their youth, good looks or money, and there's no family around to love them unconditionally, no wife who stuck by their side through thick and thin, no children, no grandchildren, no joy of providing the magic of Christmas for their kids... That all seems lonely and barren to me. To each his own, and live with the consequences. ***Bingo JohnRich! I have led a pretty full life, traveled the world, accumulated lots of "stuff",done more cool things than 100 "normal" people could ever do and all in all, feel pretty good about myself, but my most significant achievement by far is being a husband and father. The gifts that you gain by having a child are immeasurable. I love to skydive, but my favorite thing is doing whatever my son wants to do with me. I could go on and on, but unless you're a parent, you aren't gonna get it. Some folks don't always think much of me, but my boy thinks I'm everything. How cool is that? 9. QuoteIncome is income... it doesn't matter if you are paid in Gold bars... Canadian Dollars... or Jumps. If you receive something of value, in exchange for performing a service, you just earned income... and you should place a value on the item received and report it. ***That's exactly what Captain America would say. 10. QuoteI've heard that cats will actually get stable, feet-down in freefall. Guess a tail really does help them land on their feet. ***That's true, but they really don't PLF all that well. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  11. What a beautiful story over coming the odds. I'll be crying all day just thinking about it. Maybe this story will inspire me to finally stand up to that bully down at the soda shop. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  12. QuoteI am not sure how big the site is, but I would assume that it is large enough to meet the open field or level 1 requirements (effectively 250 000 square foot or bigger). Then the requirements are for a C license plus a few other restrictions. *** I jumped into Daytona on Race day and it was the easiest demo you could ever do. It is absolutely huge!. You could put 1st jump students in there there's so much room. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  13. Well, for starters, your buddy's jumpsuit is hideous and makes his butt look big. Secondly, aside from the acrobatic guy in the beginning, your video is boring and lacks any kind of artistic character. What was your motivation? Seriously, I'd rather watch Amish porn than this pointless video drivel. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  14. Skydiving helmets are swoopy and generally offer less protection than a helmet that you would wear for other sports, like skateboarding or skiing. I personally wear a Giro ski helmet. It's rugged, much cheaper than skydiving helmets, and adjustable. If you fly cameras, you're kind stuck though. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  15. If you didn't get anxious, what would be the point? You'll get more comfortable as you progress. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

  18. Many of the things you want to learn are discussed in detail in the SIM. (Skydiver's information manual) available online Most of these things should have been covered with you already by an instructor before you were cleared to jump with a coach, and you shouldn't have to pay extra to learn to pack. It's part of the deal. . John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

  22. That beer rule is a myth. It was dreamed up by greedy instructors. Believe me, AFF instructors and DZO's are literally rolling in student dollars. If I were you, I'd tell em to piss off and spend my money on a new micro Katana. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

  24. Palatka is an excellent choice for the weekend, (including Monday) however not much goes on during the week there. Lot's of choices, skydiving and otherwise all over the place here in the summer. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  25. Just got the word that Jeff Colley, a long time Palatka jumper, passed away this morning. Jeff took his FJC there, got all of his ratings, and later managed the DZ for many years. He sometimes came off as a little gruff, but he loved his freinds, and like many of us, skydiving profoundly changed his life. I was lucky to know and work with him.
