Hi, I have one jump on the Techno 155, at the time my exit weight was around 110kg. Opening was great. In flight the canopy was quite responsive. Nothing spectacular, but remember it is a reserve canopy designed to get you down after a malfunction... Landing was fine, very long toggle stroke, but still with good useable lift at the end. All in all, given the situation I had to use it, it was very good, but hopefully I wont see it again.......... Bryn Journey not destination.....

achieving proper fit for non custom helmet
skydog replied to jdm0912's topic in Photography and Video
I had the same problem. The solution was to take out the inserts, cut a neoprene mouse mat (or any other solid foam mat) to shape. Put the mat against the helmet sides and then put the originals over the top. I found I had to put two layers on the sides and one on top. Worked for over 200 jumps like that. No problem at all. And that's where you would be wrong......... Mainly aimed at the NZ bacpackers market, so will go down with them. Cheers for the replies so far, there are a few that are going to be used. Bryn Journey not destination.....

Need you help. A friend of mine is setting up a new DZ and is looking for a tag line for T-shirts. The line is "What could possibly go wrong....." followed by a list of things. So far we have: Femur through the lung Death by high impact trauma You add another line and if used you will be sent a free T-shirt with the line on. Thanks Bryn Journey not destination.....

What's the latest thoughts on a recomended DVD recorder? For those who use them in the "field" whats the ones to avoid. I am after one to produce DVD's for tandems, and would like to produce a dvd after it has gone through the mixing/audio editing system. (Stupid question: can you pause record as you can on a video recorder?......no flames please) I have searched the forums post and have an idea, but would like some feedback from those who have been using their recorders for a while. Thanks Bryn Journey not destination.....

Tandem Instructors: Student Upper Body Position at exit
skydog replied to PhreeZone's topic in Instructors
I am now in the habit of getting the student to put their hands together with their thumbs under the chest strap. Sort of like a praying position, hands not grasped together. That way their is less chance of them grabbing anything, as they still have the "security" of holding something on exit. Also their elbows are not stuck out if they hold onto the MLW. Seems to work OK.... Bryn Journey not destination..... -
Very true Though, for that price, if your a dab hand with the sewing machine it could be a good template to start from. And you will then be able to custom build your own to suit. Bryn Journey not destination.....

Try looking at the fannypacks here, seems a real bargain: Some clever person can make it clicky http://helmetcamera.com/products.htm The pack is near the bottom of the page. Bryn Journey not destination.....

I went to order a Nitro, but was told to wait because the Nitro2 was now being produced. This is part of an email from the manufacturers about the new changes: "we already started producing the Nitro 2. It has a very nice Design on the upper and lower sail. We improved many things, like different sewing technic, a new type of line (TCNL) which is totally black and some things like pilote chute attachement point, a new slider killing system. We did not change the aspect ratio or the trimming, because the canopy is good like it is. Is has only a bigger packing volume the Nitro 1 because of the more sewings we now. On the other side the Nitro 2 is much more stronger because of that." I have attached a copy of the design he mentions. Bryn Journey not destination.....

I have just ordered a Nitro2 form the manufacturers. The only real difference seems to be the material they are made of: Nitro (EU) = Gelvenor Nitron (US) = Soarcoat Apart from that I dont think there are any design differences, but could be wrong. Bryn Journey not destination.....

I am just about to reconfigure mine this way. Too much strain on my neck (must be getting old!!!) My brother is making a light weight aluminium box to screw my Velbon quick release plate on. It is extra height, but only a little bit more than portrait mounting my 10D. I prefer to have the camera in landscape. A boatbuilder friend , specialising in GRP, is then going to custom make a protective cover for the whole lot. I'll let you know what the outcome is............ Bryn Journey not destination.....

It was weird, but when I went from a hawkeye to a Flat top pro I thought there would be a huge difference. But in reality once it was sighted up I didn't notice a thing. Making sure it was sighted right was the key, other than that I felt no real difference. Apart from the fact I love it!!!!! Bryn Journey not destination.....

Have used one for the past 800 jumps and never had a problem of any sort. If you can get one cheap then go for it. Bryn Journey not destination.....

The Lets we had were all single crew. So not really an issue. Bryn Journey not destination.....

Jumped a Let410 all last year. Climb to altitude 15 mins to 13000, depending on loading. We took a max of 16 , but can get 18 in. Door is huge, enough to stand the tandems up in, which is great for me. Run in speed is quite high, but you get used to it, especially when doing camera. Easy to launch 4 ways from, and as Audrey said have to be careful about the Cof G abd so only 8 in the door max. Otherwise a great plane to skydive from, one of my favourites. I wouldn't say that was entirely true. I jump a 10D with a TRV 30 and a PC120 on a Flat Top Pro. I create my own DVD's with the use of NLE video equipment and premiere pro. Have been doing so for a while. There is a lot of talent in the UK.

OOOOPs, so used to acronyms in skydiving forget about ones in the real world. Apologies to Cato. Bryn Journey not destination.....
-
My fault for not being specific. I would like to fit it to my FTP like Cato has on his(ie fitted inside the shell of the helmet). However, I am not sure of the dimensions of the camera etc. Also, is it suitable to use, given I have no experience of bulletcams. I just know that my neck would appreciate it!!!!!! Is this setup (PAL version) suitable for a FTP? http://helmetcamera.com/products.htm Any thoughts? Bryn Journey not destination.....

The trouble is with the "someone said things..." that it is hard to find that someone, and get the low down on what they really said. Having just come back from NZ and Christchurch Parachute School, this is what I KNOW. The students are taught, by professional instructors, in all aspects of skydiving. That ranging from the jumps through to DZ management, manifesting, video editing etc. The majority of their jumps are not solo's they are usually coached jumps, and as they progress relative jumps with each other. (dependant on skills etc). As for camera work they are coached on all aspects of camera work from camera kit, sighting etc through to the jump and in air skills etc. They are supervised at every stage of their progression and all materials are made available to them. They have recently purchased 2 Canon 300D's for the students to use and are in the process of setting up a multimedia suite for them. The 2 camera people working full time on the tandem side of the DZ are ex students, and I can vouch for their skill and professionalism. As for the others I know that if you ring queenstown or taupo that they have camera people who were on the course. Rumour is a great thing but it is unsubstantiated and should be treated as such. If you want some real answers then feel free to PM me. And as for "save your money and jump here" arguement........ at which DZ can you get one-on-one tuition, coaching and personal help on a daily basis? Not many I would suspect. Plus the fact they are in NZ, land of the LOTR, and its a fantastic place. So even if the students dont wish to take up full time employment when they leave the course, at least they will have had the experience and the initial instruction to make them better at what they want to do when set against their peers who have the same number of jumps. Remember this is a qualification, supported by the NZ government, and is subject to the same auditing process as any other subject. It just so hapens to be in skydiving......... Please stop the "rumour has it" malarky. Bryn Journey not destination.....
