Wow! I guess every once in a blue-moon, what goes around DOES come around.

If skydiving was not dangerous. Do you think it would still be as fun.
dbattman replied to Darius11's topic in The Bonfire
If skydiving wasn't filled with totally cool and awesome people, I would have quit after my first year. When you hit a few hundred jumps, the dropzone is no longer a hanger with a plane, it's the people in the hanger. -
Start looking. You're on the short list.

I wouldn't find it offensive at all. An agent came by a few month ago and signed a few people up on disability coverage, which is another often overlooked and neglected coverage. Life insurance seems to b e thought of as an important 'gotta have-it' but much less thought seems to be given to replacing income for a few months or years while recovering from a bad break or accident. I wouldn't mind at all seeing a few pamphlets and a rate sheet stuck in the corner of the window, perhaps with a little sign saying 'This dropzone recommends you review your insurance coverage before skydiving.' Popping an ankle will run you into five figures, a panic low-turn could run you six.

This looks like a minor revamp of the old BCBS 'Accident/Hospitalization' plan. I had one of those in the mid-90s for about $54. I haven't been able to get quotes for 'Accident/hospital' plan anymore, so perhaps it has been dropped in favor of Tonik? Valu-med was another one I had for awhile- cheap plan, broke my talus, covered doctor, X-ray, orthopedist (consult and casting, no surgery), had to pay $300 out of pocket. Quite a bargain given the low price of the plan. DZs should have a good relationship with a local insurance rep who drops by with information and applications on a regular basis. I know quite a few people who don't carry insurance because they think it will cost a fortune when catstrophic and hospital coverage is available at a reasonable price.

I'd post the flag from the state of Georgia but I think they're STILL arguing about it.

oh my god We actually agree on something. Wow! Wonders never cease.

We do the same thing over here. Some of our congressional districts look like snakes weaving along a street or through different neighborhoods. The sole purpose for that is to try and guarantee someone from a certain minority group wins a seat in congress. No system is perfect, but trying to balance the spirit of the democratic system with everyone's interests represented fairly is a tricky one.

If they prefer to live under a theocracy, then the government that they select over the next few years through free elections will reflect that. There will be no puppet government this time around. If they want the religious heads driving the ship that's what they will get. From what I see, the Iraqis are picking their own leaders for the first time in decades, the UN is providing the technical lead in setting up the elections, and the Coalition is guarding the ballot box. How do you see it?

Bote, exactly what is it that you would like to see happen over there? I've been reading your posts for quite some time now and I just can't figure it out.

Kinda looks like something you'd see in a porno. Ready, set go!

I'm waiting to come across a stolen copy before I see it. I'm not putting one dime in that man's pocket for this 'documentary.' Pirates AHOY!

Do you happen to have a still of our new freefly exit? That's one of the funniest vids I've seen in quite a while.

What can we do about Skyride?
dbattman replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Maybe add 'the REAL Skydive Statesboro' to your search results text? -
FCC is out of control -- NSFW (if your company is just as stupid)

/me wipes tears away Oh my. That just made my day. Truly we passed the edge along time ago. -
Ah, I'd love too. I've gotta put myself on a mini dry spell during the week to drop a few pounds. 1/2 bottle of vino is now my limit (with dinner). Maybe if I see ya on a weekend.

Me neither. I quit caring about 18 months ago.

I do not know your current experience level (profile says student) but please seek instruction and qualified council before adding an audible. There are both benefits and risks of which you must be aware.

Are the room rates per night or for the whole boogie?
-
If you're traveling into town the Hometown Inn on the bypass has good rooms for about $35 skydiver rate. Complete with small kitchenette and full size fridge for your beer. It's also very close to the DZ so you can sleep in and still hop over for the first load. -fixed spelling

My response would be yes. Let me piece out the numbers: $30- TI fee $20- student slot $20- TI slot $10- pack job $25- rig replacement and maintenance So, about $100 or so to produce a tandem. I've talked with several DZOs in the past and they all give me about the same range to produce a tandem (depending on what they pay the packers and such). So, the DZ can expect to net about $50 to $75 on a tandem jump depending on their local market. If you choose to waive your fee, pay your own slots, pack your own rig and absorb the wear then the DZ should just be looking for some of the net. Why would I be looking for some of the net to come back to me? Well, you are jumping on my waivers and I'm taking the risk. Of course, if you were a friend of mine and I knew ya I'd probably let it slide provided I'm not turning a paying customer away.

If you like a little bit of satire (ala 'Office Space') look for 'Haiku Tunnel.' Indie film, rather tongue-in-cheek look at the life of a career temp worker. I enjoyed that very much. If you like a little bit of Tarrentino in your films another good indie was 'Blood, Guts, Bullets, and Octane.' A touch violent, but still quite interesting.

Here's what I see at the center of the whole issue. Marinol 5mg 30 capsules $261 at drugstore.com Growing a plant in the corner of your basement, $0. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't I allowed to produce intoxicating substances for my own use?
