Mercury Rising: Photos of the new Tony Suit
Tony-tonysuits replied to The111's topic in Wing Suit Flying
To all those wondering how the Mercury leg matches up to the SM1, After 18 days In Europe, then Flock and dock last weekend, comparing many versions of the Mercury to the SM1 , We like the Super Mach 1 better, better speed, better lift, and more control with smaller input. Holy molly Tristan, what a movie, haha, not only was it my best skydiving trip in 37 years of trips, but I got a movie too, and what a very artistic movie it was, you have your own style, Bloody good job did anyone pick up on the dude in the ceiling in the train station? it was a train that took us out to the walk on the cliff.............. a 3 hour walk on a cliff, see................ I could be a base jumper :-) Life is a series of wonderful opportunities, brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. tonysuits.com -

actually I think Olav won the overall. He won his race and was second to Tristan in Time, when the meet was over and I wondered with him why he only came 5th he told me he didn't do the Speed round, that they gave him his speed score from a regular time and distance jump, Hmmmm sorry to bitch but ....................... thank you, Jeff and I spent a lot of time working on the inflation, we constantly talk about how we can improve somth, I cant wait to get him the new leg, I don't have any numbers yet on the suit, but it does seem a bit faster with more float, so that spells G/R right? My first priority when I get back is to get a GPS. With the new arm attach system were using it will be easy to make diff arms for the same suit and with 15 mins of stitch picking could interchange em for testing OR Its possible to use just a zip holding the arms on for testing purpose's, recording jumps with a GPS will eliminate a lot of the guess work. How does the mercury compare to the SM1 Tony? Is it a faster or more super version? ------------------------------------ Ive only done 4 days on them, but I put an SM1 on in the middle of testing the mercury suit, I THINK I like the mercury better, not sure if ifs faster [ i just have to get a GPS] it just feels smoother, I have a week with Tristan in France coming up, I'll put the Mercury against his tall ass in an SM1 and see the comparison, we'll both be "tuning" up for the race in Italy so it will be great for both of us, Ireland next though, -

Post: Wow. As interesting as the moving back of the wings is the fact that the arm wings end at a point that does not 'end' at the body junction point, but rather has a squared off point. And also that the leg wing extends beyond it's final attachment point. Is this suit even bigger than the SM1? How where the times/distances??? --------------------------------------- The leg wing is the SM1 but it go's to the heels, the first one had me going head down so I did the "fat" end to the arm wing to balence the suit, I made the Handle smaller to make the arm lighter [Jeff's idea] seems ok I think, balenced to the point that you can control your angle of atack with your head, but on one jump I rased my head so much I staled, never felt that before, felt like i was gong straght down and nothing worked till I pulled my arms in and got going again, so we still have to do some tests, maybe take a bit off the arm wing, or make the leg wing longer haha and sorry Jeff but i took em all with me and didnt send you the yellow one back, oh "squirly", the Mercury mod fixed her up, I did 3 minets, av 38 mph the whole skydive, Life is a series of wonderful opportunities, brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. tonysuits.com -
After seeing a hackey go into the base of a PC and cause a PCIT --------------------------------- me too, I had 2 pcit's in a month on two dif pilot chutes, first one old and got lost then a new one, I have a "wiffle" ball now, havent had the prob since Life is a series of wonderful opportunities, brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. tonysuits.com

I have 6 total, 3 sm1's in diff size's and 3 mercury sm1's, in my size, but putting the bootie to the front makes it way easier to fit, I just clock'd one with my new Altitrack, 31 mph best vertical speed, I was racing around clouds so av was 47 or so, cant work the instrument properly yet Mike im taking them to Europe Sunday mid day so come out sat & sunday morn ok? I have been jumpin with jeff while he has been trying this suit. It definately has a lot of range. I think it just needs a little tuning. more to come. ---------------------------------------------------- "This suit" has just been converted to Mercury [rising] now we're gonna see some shit, Im gonna go jump it before I send it to Jeff, hey Heff where are you? I need an address Life is a series of wonderful opportunities, brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. tonysuits.com

folding wasnt the issue... --------------------------- sorry I misread, yes I see the point but seems to me the air will "spill/shoot" out better with the wing at that angle, but as I said, bottom line, it feels like it's pushing me more so Im RIGHT INTO IT
-
yes, hang gliders too, I dont have pix yet, and I have'nt had video but today young Chuck Blue [who was there when I said I want to try it and said somth about it being done before]

ok, too early to say for sure but I made a cool change on a proto that was rather nice, let me tell you a story..............on a proto I made a month ago, I put the leg wing to the toes and about 5" beyond thinking when you point your toes it's gonna be great, so using my narrowest leg just by moving the wing up to the toes [and beyond] it made em just as wide as the Mk 1, they came out enormous, so I made the arm wing "enormous" to match the legs, I took the Mk 1 length and then out 8" from the thigh, at a right angle to the bod and up to the handle's, so I jumped this "thing" and I hated it, I was all over the place, so I sent it to Jeff, [he's still on the rd] and he jumped it and said the same, but where I pulled high and said fook that, he jumped it 5 times and thought it the fastest thing but still "squirley" ... couldn't keep a heading, so, says I, if moving the leg wing forward is no good, lets move it back to the heels............. So at the Richmond boogie last weekend I got to jump the first proto like this and loved it, sweet, but the legs had more lift and my head would drop if I relaxed the arm's just one bit, huh, just because my feet were sticking out the front of the wing.............. I see em as stabilizers maybe channeling the air??? so, I made a proto with the arm wings like the squirley suit and with the heel wing and jumped it today and Brilliant, loved it, smooth like Ive never felt before, Im gonna go jump em, ( I have 3 different ones) in Europe next week for 18 days, diff comps, and I expect to win :-) [if I dont im gonna look so stupid] but i am a little fat guy, we'll see, maybe Im wrong, tomorrow im converting the original "squirley" to the heels and send that back to Jeff, see what he thinks, but I'm jazzed, I feel at this mo that I wanna make em standard, the Mercury wing :-) we'll see Life is a series of wonderful opportunities, brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. tonysuits.com

. Are all new M1s SM1s, or are they different suits? ---------------------------------------------------- yes differnt suits, Life is a series of wonderful opportunities, brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. tonysuits.com
-
all the suits come with the same back and frt air intake's on the legs, the diferance between the MK1 and the SM1 is a 4"longer, slightly narower leg and a 4" longer arm wing at the root, the longer arm wing makes no differance to the reach for your hacky, Life is a series of wonderful opportunities, brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. tonysuits.com

maybe you have your arms in the old "Acro" position, when you try to max it out, I notice at the end of a skydive my arms moving down towards my hips and my head dropping, I have to get my arms "back up" in position when I feel my head drop, though Ive never had it so low that ive made the arms "flutter" keeping the arm wing trailing edge tight and not too bowed is the reason your head is dropping, [I guess] Jeff has some different theories I think ref "max track" Plus Justin said the same thing when he got his SM1 but dialed it in after a few jumps, Jeff can talk to you also about all the diff back flying positions, he spends a lot of time on his back, no pun intended Life is a series of wonderful opportunities, brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. tonysuits.com
