  3. Dave is right dude. Back flying is free flying. Flying on your back runs the risk of the relative wind catching any exposed bridle or pc, so if youre not using the right gear then your putting yourself at risk! That coach has 2000 jumps? Dave Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop

  6. Hey Tom. Why is the USPA JM rating no longer issued? Is a USPA coach a combination of a Coach and JM. i.e Can a USPA coach supervise and dispatch S/L students? What is the equivalent of an Instructor/Examiner in the US now? What is IAD. I've heard of it before, but never seen it used. I remember seeing some video of IAD used in the military, but thats about it. Does anyone still use this method of instruction anymore? Dave Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop

  8. Im not at all an expert of how PASA works (anyone please correct me if im incorrect), but from the little I do know: Any diciplinary action taken (ie warning, grounding etc) in the past against this person should have been reported on PASA Form 6 and forwarded to the NSTO. So from what you've said, with this person getting multiple warnings and having been grounded by the DZ more than once, PASA should already have multiple records of this person on file. Im sure you know where im going with this. If no-one else is going to do something about this, maby you should. As Tom said: I hope you find a way to solve this. I cant believe that someone with a JM rating is doing this! Dave Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop

  10. I would hope that this cant happen "while the rig is being used" That would completely put me off ever putting in an AAD! Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop

  13. My first 5 sec delay. Good exit, stable deployment. Spring loaded pilot chute. Pilot chute went over the front and wrapped around the outer A lines. Canopy wasnt spinning, but with both toggles up, it was turning to the left. Made the landing and flare a little tricky. With my skill level and number of jumps at the time (14 jumps) maybe I should have chopped. Dave Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop
  14. I agree with riggerrob and peek. Ever DZ has a SL progression program that they follow. At the end of the day they are all designed to get a student from point A to point B. They all might differ slightly, but the basics are all the same. I really like robs "list of skills" theory! Most students, including myself, tried to rush their progression, and miss out on important things they might need later. Just for interest sake, here's the progression you would follow if you jumped in Namibia. (Its seems slightly longer than what ive read here so far) 3 x no work S/L jumps 5 x DRCP S/L jumps 1 x 3 sec delay 1 x 5 sec delay 2 x 10 sec deley 1 x 15 sec delay, box position 1 x 15 sec delay with alti 1 x 20 sec delay poised exit 1 x 20 sec delay unpoised exit 1 x 180 degree turns both directions 1 x 360 degree turns both directions 1 x backloops 1 x full series L360 R360 BL L360 R360 BL 1 x delta in both direction 1 x track in both direction 1 x track and turns 1 x throw out pilot chute conversion 1 x 2 way "check out" dive These would be the minimum number of jumps. ie everything passed first time. 16. Background: Very recently our Directorate of Civil Aviation (DCA) in Namibia (Equivalent of the FAA in other places) enforced that as from 1 June 2007 all our Jump Pilots are to have written and passed a Jump Pilots test as administered by the Parachute Association of Namibia (PANAM) in order to obtain a "Jump Pilots Rating" Without this rating they may not fly a jump plane. Are there any other places around the world that require a jump pilot to have written a test or have a rating? I know that many places in the States offer jump pilot training, but do they require their pilots to write an official test in order to obtain some form of rating? The best people to ask these questions are the jump pilots who skydive too. We only have two. So I pose this question to everyone. Question: What would you test the pilot on? Thanx in advance, Dave Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop

  18. Alot of students I've help train go through the same thing you are. They feel that need to finish their student progression quickly so they can get off student status. Being a student is not a bad thing. I dont know if this is how you feel? I hope not. Every jump you do now will be something different. And we humans (even though some will never admit it) like change. So rather have fun while you are jumping, rather than stress about suceeding every time. This will probably help you relax, and the more relaxed you are, the beter you fly up there! Also, you should never feel like a loser for making a mistake and having to repeat a part of your progression. Remember that you can learn something from the mistakes you make. And rather make simply silly mistakes now , than big mistakes later! I have a student who has struggled for so long on S/L, and he finaly did his first freefall today! I realy enjoy seeing my students succeed, so even though I've never met you, I really do hope that you enjoy your progression. (Now you're going to have to tell me how every jump goes
  19. Anytime! And yes, quite right about me kicking! Because the plane is moving forward you already have speed and ofcoarse some "wind" to play with. Less time to reach terminal. Chopper doesnt move. It just hovers on one spot. (Hopefully! ) No speed, no "wind" means it takes longer to reach terminal, and ofcoarse the more of a "falling" sensation you get! Again, enjoy the progression! It's alot of fun! Dave
