True. Although we dont train them on reading the a/c instuments, we do have an altimeter fixed at the back of the plane. So they can visualy check their altitude before they climb out. Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop

I didnt know that S/L students jump with an altimeter. Over here a S/L progression student only jumps with an altimeter when they reach their 15 sec delay. Just like your JM or inst is responsible for: making sure the aircraft is safe to jump, checking your equip before you board the plane, hooking you up, spotting etc he is responsible for making sure you exit at the correct altitude. I do have to agree a little with peregrin. If you knew you were low you should have said something. That still doesnt change the fact that your JM or Inst was "bestowed" that responsibility when he/she received their rating. Its actually ironic to read this. A while ago I posted a thread asking about info for a jump pilots test. We have now incorporated "min exit altitude" into it: 18) During normal operation. What are the minimum exit altitudes for? Static Line Jump a: 1000 feet b: 2500 feet c: 3500 feet [1] 3 second free fall a: 2500 feet b: 3500 feet c: 4500 feet [1] 5 second freefall a: 3500 feet b: 4500 feet c: 2500 feet [1] 10 second freefall a: 4500 feet b: 5500 feet c: 6500 feet [1] 15 second freefall a: 4000 feet b: 5000 feet c: 6000 feet [1] 20 second freefall a: 4000 feet b: 5000 feet c: 6000 feet [1] Although this doesnt change the JM or Inst responsibilities or duties, having our pilots know this could never hurt. Well atleast at a small 182 or 206 dz where the pilot can usualy identify who's on the load. Dave Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop

I have never seem a bag lock before. Only seen footage of some during my FJC and in all these instances the jumper was pulled into a standing/sitting position. I think you mis understand what im asking. I was only enquiring if there are instances where this doesnt happen. And obviously now i know. You could be right about that, but then again it could have been even slower than he thought. (Temporal distortion) So if it was a bag lock then why didnt he see the PC or D-bag? Ready...Set...Go..! Thats the first thing that popped into my mind aswell. I cant see how a spring loaded pilot chute plus the main "locked" d-bag can have gone unnoticed by the jumper. Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop

Put very plainly id say a licence is a level of accomplishment/experience that a skydiver has obtained/achieved. Most Parachute Associations issue licences from A - D. Your profile says you are from Australia. For more info check out Section 3 Certificates and licences in the Australian Parachute Federation Operational Regulation. http://www.apf.asn.au/Documents/Publications/OpRegs.pdf Dave Ready...Set...Go..! Thats very strange. Usualy a bag lock creates enough drag to pull you into a standing or sitting position, so you would normaly notice it immedietly. Anyone got any ideas as to why this might not have happeded in this case? 6 seconds is a little bit long to wait for a canopy to be above your head But well done savin yourself!

mmm, also interested to hear about this. I have seen a similar situation with a women that didnt have enough "arm or pec" strength. In this case she didnt have the upper body strength to flare. After watching her land without being able to flare her canopy, the CI gave her the speech. Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop

Front door 206: We dont have a door on it at the moment. On go arounds I just hold onto the students harness and hook them up as they are moving into positon. I always keep a hand on the harness or on the door side of the legs just to reassure them. Back door 206: Has a door. On go arounds i close it. I seem to find that students are less anxious with the door already open. They become used to the noise and wind while we are climbing. I also find that students become more anxious if the door was closed and is only open while on run-in. That sudden rush of wind and noise and no time to get used to it seems to make them more anxious. Dave Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop

a few of my favorites "The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want." "You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you." A friend once told me, “When God leads you to the edge of the cliff, Trust Him fully, because one of two things will happen: either He will catch you when you fall or He will teach you how to fly. This is great and takes a lot of skill towards the end so keep a steady hand. Apparently only 1 in 10 people are able to finish it. Needs sound and turn it up loud. Click here for the maze Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop

Backflying with tandems (Was Rocky Point injury)
skydave238 replied to davepend's topic in Safety and Training
Not familier with the USPA BSR's etc, but doesnt a TI obtain a rating on a specific tandem system from a manufacturer. Is the rating issued by the USPA or by the manufacturer, or onbehalf of the manufacturer by the USPA? What im trying to ask is, can the manufacturer revoke/suspend a TIs rating if one of their safety requirements have not been met? Ready...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop -
