  1. Heres tae us, Wha's like us? Gie few, And their aw deid! 2. Its real easy to apply filters and effects after filming with Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects (I do not work for Adobe!), or any other NLE software.. This way you can experiment without compromising original footage, or set up an effect without wasting lots of time experimenting. Of course your mileage may vary... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 3. Lots of good stuff here, with some interesting "what ifs" and analogies. But we are not comparing apples with apples. Jumping4-way as part of a team is a great progression, team members coach each other, and every jump is debriefed, in detail. Jumpers jump with the same team each weekend, or whatever. If the same 'discipline'were applied in freeflying the progression rate would be similar. Okay so the training techniques are a little more mature for RW, so its still not a fair comparison. What makes the transition from FF to RW or otherwise, is the individual's ability to transfer skills like situational awareness, relativity, and close quarter control, from one discipline to the other. Its all good folks, there are great aspects to both types of flying, that each discipline could benefit from. Personally, I think a jumper should be at least competent at 4 way RW before going free flying, and I think a lot of RW fliers would benefit from some time with the freaks. Me? I'm a converted belly flier. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 4. If you take an audible, it will still go off, and on, and off, etc ,etc ,etc, you get the picture. Timeouts do anyways...protracs are easy to switch on and off, TOs need their batteries removed. I've taken my alti in the hold on many occassions, no adverse effects as yet... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 5. Okay, PDS I wasn't getting at you....I would just rather not see the little padlock all over the place.. What you did was to hook the risers onto the opposite rings, which is a fairly easy mistake to make. You will also have put a 180 twist into your line groups, so check for any nasty wear on your lines. After hooking up any canopy you should always conduct a line continuity check, as Erno advised. Its also known as a 4-line check (a throwback from round packing days, I believe). Its relatively easy, but difficult to describe, so get any rigger to show you how this is achieved to be sure. Go to the nose of the canopy, pick up the A line from the left hand outer cell, follow it thru the cascade to the link, it should be on the left front riser, left (outside) side, repeat for the D line, it should be on the left rear riser, left (outside) side. Repeat the above process for the right hand side, the right hand A line should be on the right hand front riser, right (outside) . etc, etc, etc. If you are hooking up a brand new canopy, you will have to ensure each line is in its correct respective position on the link. Finally check teh brakes go their 'correct' places, and eth lines are not twsted or wrapped around anything they shouldn't be. The whole process is made a load more easy if you get someone to help with holding the risers/rig etc. This will help you identify whether the risers have twisted, or 'gone through themselves, or any other wierd shit that can happen between stuffing a canopy into a bag and you hooking it up.. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 6. Before the fork is warmed in the fire, I would post this over to gear and rigging, its not really a mal, more of a rigging error. Riggers, knowledgable people, and anyone with an opinion will be able to answer you freely over there, without cluttering up this forum. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 12. Hey there Jraf, this is in response to your post, but isn't necessarily directed to you, so don't take it personally. I enjoyed that thread just as much as everyone else did. I was as guilty as everyone else involved in the daily post whoring, and probably did a lot to encourage keeping the thing going. Often I thought the thread was actually destructive to the international nature of the chatting, especially given the international political situation right now. I even asked if the thread title could somehow be changed to appear less divisive. It was fun to remind the forum that it is not just populated by Americans, especially at the times when we were posting here, but we tried very hard not to use this thread as a Yank bashing vehicle, as I'm sure Quatorze, and Lisa will confirm. This thread became a place where we could all find each other of a morning when the board was quiet, and DID develop into what could be likened to a chat room, many one liners, conversations spiralling around the place endless sentences etc etc. In a way I'm sad but not outraged that the thread was shut down, but in a way I'm relieved. This thread was starting to spark off an attitude of 'who can get the biggest thread going' which ultimately encouraged post whoring. So I understand why it was stopped, along with the associated 'american thread' thing. Good things to come from this experience, well I've chatted (yes we WERE just chatting) with some people I might not otherwise have gotten to know quite so well. I've made some on-line friends, yourself included, I've learned the Afrikaan for millipede, I know what a zulu spear looks like, I've seen Hamliinaa decked in snow, I learned the Finnish for rhubarb pie, and I have laughed a lot. Bad things, we pissed off HH and got the fork for our troubles. But lets be realistic, and honestly admit we were chatting, not necessarily about skydiving either. In fact we were rarely chatting about skydiving at all. I think there were more posts about 'extreme bagel munching' than actual jumping. This sets a pretty poor example to anyone who might see this type of thread and then post whore in the same manner. Void was a case in point. So we got the Hot Fork, big deal, if you can't take the prong, don't do the wrong....Even though we didn't break any rules, we did go beyond the spirit of this place, and as no doubt somebody will point out, this is HH's place and he is entitled to do as he pleases.... So HH I humbly aplogise for wanton abuse of your bandwidth and hope the case of beer I pay pal'd you makes up for any minor indiscretions.... Peace, I see a ray of unified sunshine dispelling the clouds of division.....recent Chinese proverb.... Cya back on the forums to continue enjoying lively debate and cultural interchange. 13. "In a nutshell, to reduce government to a less intrusive, less bureaucratic level; " and "a non-interventionist foreign policy." Whoa Lisa, thats kinda radical, I've been flamed for talking about such policies here bfore..... Hell they'd get my vote, but wait a minute, I can't vote in the US...dagnabbit. Chris, can you change your poll to include the 'Liberal Democrats' which sounds like the UK equivalent to your libertarians..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 14. "let's just agree to let a thread die after a few days, whatever the topic" This would require discipline from us, the users, and there's no guarantee to control it. Some threads get bumped up or resurrected and conversations fly off in different directions as new people join the fray... I think we should just agree to keep the inane chat down for a while. PS, Blue, thats a risque tag line ya got there......I'm assuming your talking about your boss, but others may take it differently. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 15. Hey Gary, how are you keeping? I would suggest its not the rings that contribute here, but the body position. My logic would be that because the rings help the rig 'hug' your body more, the rig is more susceptible to reacting to an asymmetric body position. If you see what I mean. I suspect its a marginal difference though.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 16. I haven't got a clue what you are talking about in all the techno babble Erno, but I guess I agree with you on the waste of bandwidth thing.... I'm also firewalled out so a chat room would not work for me unless someone can come up some sort of workaround..... What about some sort of compromise, what if threads in an identified forum were not backed up, or were autodeleted after a week/2 weeks/month or so. Advantages.... This would be a place for babble, keeping the noise down on more relevant forums. It might help to slow the melt down. There wouldn't be a competition, real, imagined, or implied, to have the biggest thread etc..... It might preventr valid threads from crumbling into a whoring fest.... Disadvantages Threads would vanish forever, but at what loss? There was nothing of any real value on 'that thread', just a hell of a lot of good natured blethering. "It would truly suck if I actually had to start working during my workdays..." Well at least its a friday... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 22. Hah! right then if your boss bugs you there are many childish yet effective things you can do for vingince..... 1) Got any blue tack? The putty stuff for sticking paper to walls... Well it comes of walls real easy, but its a bitch to get out of business clothes. A little bit on her chair works wonders. 2)super glue the ends of all her pens so that none of them work, and shatter the lead in her pencils, so they are impossible to sharpen. 3)By far my personal favourite...sprinkle bird seed on her car... 4)If she is still shoving it in where its not wanted, hell give it back, pick something you know she knows fuck all about and ask her for decisions on it, back up the questions with e-mail copied to all etc....Power comes with an inherent responsibility, its not a one way street. Let me know how you get on.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
