  1. Wendy, I don't think its brutal, I think its fair. HH has stated on countless occassions that the forum should not be used to post condolences, oneliners etc. THe womens forum was set up so that you gals could have a chat without puerile (Boobies, beer, 'she said thong, snurff, snurrf' etc) comments interrupting the flow. I don't think it should be the responsibility of the moderators to 'distill' the wisdom, it is down to us, the users to police this. Now then I'm not being cold hearted, I fully undrestand that some people need to express their emotion, sense of loss etc, somewhere, but the talkback forum should be the place. BTW I'm not voting on the poll, because I don't think they serve any useful purpose either....This ain't no democracy, or if it is, its an Iraqi democracy... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 5. Jraf, the reason petrol, you guys call it gas but hey... is, as you rightly point out due in a large part to Tax imposed by our government. This is the same same government that signed the Kyoto treaty to reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions. The main reason it is taxed is to encourage more environmentally freindly technologies. Uncle Sam however, refuses to countenance such a preposterous idea... "The US refuses to sign the climate treaty and take action to reduce emissions. With less than 5 percent of the world's population, the US is the world's largest producer of greenhouse gases and is responsible for 25 percent of global emissions. Also, governments continue to subsidise the fossil fuel industries, keeping dirty energy cheap while clean energy solutions remain under-funded" Source:- Greenpeace, yes you have cheap fuel, but at what price? I wonder how much of Florida and the Gulf coast is under threat from rising water levels as land bound ice is released into the sea, and why are we having 3 weeks of solid rain in Houston??? Ho hummm, at least it appears we may now be on the brink of agreement over the Iraq issue in the UN...... We're gonna need something else to squabble about, RSL anyone? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 6. It comes, it goes, I either have enough to party or I don't....Its that simple.. I don't like to think how much I spend on things like skydiving or beer, its not that important to me. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 7. "The UN has NO place in today's world. The UN was created for a reason, and that reason is now nullified. It has become the demure master with the Big Dog on a heavy chain. The UN likes to play their little holier than thou games as we (the US) fund them and fight their wars." >>>exercising massive restraint

  9. Hmm Nate, as a connoisseur of music, you have an interesting juxtaposition of Lynyrd Skynyrd (sp ?), and Bob Marley.....truly eclectic if you know some of the politics etc... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 10. "what would you be doing today if you knew there wasn't a tomorrow?" Umm, the same thing I was doing yesterday?..... PS its already tomorrow in some parts of the world, so unless the world is about to end yesterday, there is no need to worry today....If you see what I mean.

  18. I'm afraid neither a Cypres nor an RSL (rolled sesame loaf) would have saved Joe, he was under a perfectly good canape at the time....... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 19. cross post from talk back This post tells of amazing escapes from high altitude without the use of conventional deceleration techniques. Noted lucky survivors are Lt. I.M. Chisov, Sgt. Alan Magee, and Sgt. Nicholas Alkemade, who survived high altitude bomber incidents during the second world war, and air hostess Vesna Vulvic, who fell from an exploding airliner, following a terrorist bombing of her aircraft. Also of note is the recent tale of a Yugoslav Army paratrooper Glas Javnosti who apparently had a double mal, and survived when he fell through the roof of an army building from 3,300ft. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 20. This aspect of American campaign politics has always fascinated me. Here in eth UK candidates are elected because of their proposed manifestos, and strengths, not because the opposition is inadequate, or weak. But the US way is certainly more entertaining to watch......
  21. I think stuff like this would be good to cross post into History and Trivia, that way it will not disappear into the mire.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 22. "so much for being dramatic but I have a feeling I'm in a silly mood today." 23. "i don't know about RSL for speed skydiving. if i have (knock-knock on the wood) premature deployment and RSL is hooked up, i'm not sure what would happen when my main blows up at high speed. " I don't want to hi-jack the thread on yet another RSL debate, however..... If I had an RSL on my rig, I would want it hooked up for speed, the fear being that the lanyard could work loose, and either beat you about the face, or worse, cause a prem. deployment of the reserve..... But I removed my RSL for other reasons....camera flying being the main one..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 24. Thanks for the messages of condiments, I think Joes example illustrates the hidden dangers of Hop and Pop Tarts....... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 25. I am still stunned at the loss of "Hungry" Joe Bloggs. I was personally shocked when I heard that he had bit the crust. We had been team mates on the Pro Pakora Performance Tour, and in particular, the Scottish event, Plaid Bunning. Joe was also an accomplished accuracy competitor in the classic events, his reputation for accuracy, known as buffet stomping, was second (helpings) to none. This particular chow has left me with emotional indigestion, I'm gutted. Joe was indeed a likeable guy, and would often regale newcomers to the sport with tales of his early years in the world pie games, and the practice of souping the pond, long before the advent of today's high performance bagels, and extreme pastries. Joe lived his life on the short crust edge, his contribution to patisserie pastimes will be sorely missed. For the record, I am still contesting my disqualification which involved Budweiser, which showed up on regular competitor testing as being virtually banned substance (beer) free. However rules are rules and we must draw the line somewhere...... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
