Likewise, Murray, what about avi files? Do Macs only 'like' QT files, or are they tolerant of AVI? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson

Band who really should have stayed dead....
nacmacfeegle replied to lemonjelly's topic in The Bonfire
ABBA, what is it with that band? They simply will not die! Every couple of years a new generation finds an excuse to jump around to 'Dancing Queen', whether it is because a movie comes out featuring the music like Muriel's Wedding, or a stage show like Mama Mia, or some other sort of revival. ABBA, they were crap first time round (I remember the first time round) and they simply do not get any better with age. So please folks, just stop the cycle, end the Abba! -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. I ask because I know how to transcode some of this stuff, but I wouldn't like to try and explain it without pictures, visual aids, and waving my hands about a lot.

"As far as functionality and ease of use, is a flash player or hard drive player more desireable?" They are much the same sort of thingie. WMA, is just an audio file type, similar to MP3, WAV etc. A bit like comparing JPG files and BMP files. There are geeky differences, largely concerned with quality, vs file size etc. How old is the bairn? Is he clued up on this sort of thing? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Do all the players use memory cards like that?" Some do, some use hard discs, like a computer. "Are they like what digital cameras use?" Yes, but there are many varieties of cards. I was an early adopter of Sony's Atrac3 system about 5 years ago, which I think is better, so don't ask me. Besides, I'd get an Archos over an Ipod anyday, just to confuse you even more. Why limit yourself to sound when you can have video as well. edit, what Jen says about flash cards vs hard drives and dropping them is probably good advice IMO.

"it's all good though, they took my back in what could've been a very messy, very one-sided brawl" Must have been your round next..... Just kidding -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Aye, Saving Grace is cool, and dayumm, I'd forgotten about Angry Kid, thanks for reminding me. I was thinking more along the lines of The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave, Chicken Run, and loads of wee flicks, which I spent much of the weekend copying from VHS onto DVD for my bairn. He loves them.

"IMO, of all the English speaking countries, British humor is still a grade above everything" I don't know about that, you have to compare apples with apples, as it were. EG Monty Python doesn't really compare with Malcolm in the Middle, both are excellent but different. In terms of the big screen, I'd say its pretty much even, eg I watched Steve Martin in Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid last night and pissed myself again. Comparable to Peter Sellers IMO. On the animation front, the US is light years ahead, if you take Aardman out of the equation. If you see what I mean?

What type of desktop do you have? I have a couple of desktops and quite often swap stuff like big video files bewteen my lappie and desktops, I don't know if this is practical if I were to have a Mac/PC mix...... Somebody here will know.....

You need to be more precise with your picture links. Do you mean like this?... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Personal_Galleries/TommyB&image=minihybrid.jpg&img=0&search=hybrid&cat=all&tt=&bool= As far as I am aware, there is no reason not to use a chest strap as a grip, people have been doing it for years. Think RW launches.... I'm not a rigger though, and I've only done a few hybrids -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Yeah, and your "Milky Ways" are called "Mars Bars" because you people are weird" Potayto, potahto, our chocolate is still way better. But I think this calls for new thread, maybe even a poll...... "The Sun article leads with the fact" That has got to be a first! I hate the Sun, only one page worth looking at. "eg 20 is a woodlouse... " I reckoned they were more like wee millipede chappies that were pretty common in my apartment in Houston, a Californian pal of mine in Houston used to call them curly wurlies, which was just plain wrong. We call woodlice 'slaters' up here. I got 53% Dixie, but then again, we speak an entirely different language way up here, just ask Mike. Just don't get me started on the Doric.

Surely BAR represents a reasonable interest from the US? But I'd agree with Aggie's take on it, the 'psyche' of the US people is slightly different, they like to feel they can, at some level or another, partake in the sports they watch. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
