The check was originally for $3000, the doctor bill was for that amount as well, but the doc was nice enough to cut it in half.....so, out of a check for $1,500 I got $800...the city got the rest. Shari, I feel your pain - trust me! It'll be 4 years (I think) this August that I was hit by an uninsured driver...on top of that she was drunk--but wait, it gets better... I was stopped at a red light, when it turned green, naturally I started going - not 2 feet into the intersection all I hear is the roar of some kind of BIG engine and a beeping horn. My mind is suddenly thinking: "WHAT THE..." I didn't even get a chance to see what was coming at me - it all happened lightning quick. Turns out it was a drunk, driving 1 of those old 1990-ish Ford Conversion vans. From surveying the damage on my car (wish i could find the pictures) she must have hit me at 50 mph+ - although she hit the drivers side front fender, the whole front of my car was gone, i mean completely torn off. Had she hit any farther back I would be either dead or paralyzed (in which case I rather be dead.) If all this wasn't enough, she hit 2 other cars, before landing on a street pole herself; it's really a wonder that no one was injured and/or killed. Here's the kicker though, when I finally got down to where she finally came to a stop witnesses told me that she fell out of her car, passed out, shortly thereafter got up, took a swig of her beer & ran off... And I'm thinking to myself: "WTF, none of you could of stopped her?!?!" Luckily, I had a KICK ASS, take names lawyer that went after my insurance company (I only had liability mind you) to get me everything he could - the case just ended back in August, and I was able to use the money to pay for my tunnel time back in November. I'm really surprised I got anything out of it though; she wasn't insured, it wasn't her car AND the owner could not be contacted or located for that matter. However, out of a $3,000 check I only got $800... My lawyer took next to nothing, the doctor slashed the $3,000 medical bills in half...but the fucking city took the rest of the money for TAXES & some other bullshit ... I've been to Waverly with the Louisville Ghost Hunters (which I was a member of for a little while). Waverly is reputed to be one of the most haunted places in the country. One of its biggest claims to fame are shadow people. They are just like the name describes, just shadows of a human form, but dense enough to break light. We were once standing on the fourth floor, about midnight, and just watching them move around the halls. If you just stood there with all the lights off, you could watch them walk from room to room and look around the walls at us. At one point, someone pointed out a figure that seemed to be coming down the hall towards our group (normally they stayed away). A member of the group had a laser pointer which showed a temperature reading where the beam fell and he shined it on the figure. It was about twenty degrees colder than the surrounding area and the beam stopped directly on the shadow (light didn't penetrate it). We stood there in the hall and watching this spot of light where it was hitting the figure get closer and closer to us. At about ten feet away, the shadow suddenly disappeared and the light shot back down to the end of the hall, bouncing off the wall. I certainly haven't worked out all of my own beliefs about ghosts/spirits/demon/etc. I've seen and felt enough things to make me believe there is *something* there, but I don't really know what. The children's hospital I worked in previously was thought to be haunted in the wing I was assigned to work. While there, I witnessed charts flying off of a flat shelf, a kick sink suddenly coming on when no one else was in the room, shadows moving under a closed door of an empty room, repeatedly turned off the call light in one vacant room, had a child laugh in my ear, and several other things. I tend to put some stock in psychic imprinting theories, but I don't think it explains everything. It definitely doesn't explain those situations where there seems to be real interaction between the observer and the entity, for lack of a better word. Very interesting! I'm finding it damn hard to think of explanations for what you've described. Reading your post made me remember something my mother experienced... Years ago, when her boyfriend died of cancer (he was an atheist or agnostic at best by the way) something happened to her that none of us can explain to this day. She received a strange phone call 1 night, on her cell phone - she said she only heard static, but through that it was as if someone was trying to say something, but it couldn't be made out. The next morning the boyfriends daughter called my mother to inform her Joe had died during the night, & when my mother asked when the time was shortly before that phone call (about 2:30 in the morning). However, it doesn't end there, the kicker is - on a hunch my mother checked the phone records; sure enough, there was a call placed from his phone to my mothers at the time in question...the thing is, his phone was turned off & locked in a public storage from the time he was admitted into the hospital. The phone thing is also sort of significant because that was there main way to communicate (also the first cell phones for the both of them.) My mother had a very hectic schedule, and he was away at times as well; they were CONSTANTLY on those phones with each other. Nothing new to report really...just wanted to chime in & say I'm still cracking away at getting in shape. The sessions with my trainer are a lot of fun - & thanks to him I've also gotten into the habit of getting to the gym early (instead of going at 1:00-2:00 am.) The only thing I still have to get into the habit of now is to finally start stretching! I've been saying for 2-3 weeks now that I need to start doing it & still, I have yet to do it. As much as the increase in strength has helped my arch, the stretching I is almost more important because without it I don't have the flexibility to get my pelvis down as much as I would like and/or is necessary...and this is what provokes all kinds of colorful words. Val, don't get me wrong - I agree with what you're saying...and very much try to look at things from a scientific angle. All I'm saying is that there is a possibility that a spiritual realm outside of our own may exist. That said, I've been able to discredit some of my experiences to things like the environment, fatigue, etc, etc... While others I have yet to explain - hence why I believe it's possible. It can be due to things like radio interference or the fact that people try to find patterns in things (for example, people playing records backwards and hearing phrases.) And never rule out hoaxes. People want to get on tv, make a quick buck, etc, and the media is quick to grab onto ghost stories and the like. It makes for good tv! Unfortunately, finding out that it's all a hoax makes for less good tv, so it's not shown quite as often. An example of this is the crop circles. There are people who still believe crop circles are made by aliens even though the guys who started it came out and showed everyone how they did it. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt there - E.V.P.'s could be faked, mostly because as you said, it makes for good T.V.... However, do you think (I'm honestly asking) that every reported incident is faked? It would be interesting to find reports of ghosts/spirits before television was around. Surely, they exist (the reports) because no matter if ghosts/spirits are indeed real, or it's all a trick our mind plays - no matter the cause - if it happens now, it surely happened in the past. Oddly enough, (this may seem like a contradiction) I believe in God, but I do not believe dead people roam around on earth. I have had 'experiences' however, I'm undecided as of their origin.
