I STRONGLY encourage you NOT to get into the insurance industry! I can't stress that enough! Companies are starving right now, and trying to make money any way they can. Bottom line is no one is hitting their numbers, I don't care if you have a God-given sales talent & have incredible interpersonal skills, & are genuine in making the customer's needs a top priority (this last 1 is key in the business by the way.) Unfortunately, honest people sometimes come few & far between; this could be said for agents & companies alike. Finding a agent position for a company nowadays is easy as can be; the only requirement is that you have a pulse - companies are THAT desperate for salespeople. Good luck making money though... Sure, they'll promise you the moon & than some; along with being reassuring why [put the company name here] is a stable company to work for, even in this economy. However, promises & the art of blowing smoke is the start & end of it. The fact is, if giants like AIG & Citigroup [Companies that have their hands in every aspect of the financial world & thus have a very colorful portfolio of products to offer] than who is to say that anone else can survive?... I do have my licenses for all lines of insurance, but as Skymama said, I'm doing anything but making a living. Now that I have my licenses I'll keep them (you have to renew every 2 years byway of continuing education) but if I had known then what I know now I would have never even bothered. If you think spending $300 is a lot (it is) how do you think I feel about having spent $1,000. Cocheese also brought up a god point - selling a tangible product these days is hard enough, selling something intangible is nearly impossible. Although insurance is the most important thing to have, it's often times the last thing people get; and no one is happy to spend money on it. I don't care how you explain it - insurance does not provide instant gratification that society thrives on, thus it is not seen as a need. Furthermore, the business itself is very cutthroat in nature; your coworkers are not your friends. Just my .02... Edited to add: insurance was a god business to be in 19 years ago; everything was good back then...but it obviously isn't now. Maybe things will pick up in the industry, maybe not; time will tell the tale. shit, for being illegal, they sure are quite widely available - I'm almost positive I saw a few at Best Buy on multiple occassions. I don't have the need for 1, as I no longer drive like I used to; hell, I don't remember the last time I was pulled over.......oh yeah I do.....I was on my way to a party at the dz last year. I can't believe he pulled me over for going 10 over, on a rural empty road... Anyway, for curiosity's sake - what's the penalty for being caught with a jammer? There are some, PA I think is 1. However, the whole point of a radar detector is that you don't get pulled-over to begin with. My only advice is go out & spend the $400-$500 on a good 1; something that will jam the cops radar gun - not just detect it & warn you. Choppers though, that'll still be a problem... No, I just really think JohnMitchell made the coffee too strong this morning. I think he did it on purpose too! I'm probably going to have to punish him when he gets home from work. Hell, I'd misbehave too if I was him. Dialogue/commentary between Divot, Twardo & myself - "from your first Oshkosh when the three of us were riding to or from one of

I'm with Dave on this one (he gave me pep talks on here too [and I appreciate them!]) There's just no good reason for excessive speeding. I used to drive aggressively also; who hasn't at 1 time or another. My problem was I did it for a lot of years. However, you either, A), grow out of it, or B), learn the somewhat hard way... Ironically I had 2 accidents, when I wasn't speeding or anything...and all I can say is once you see the damage 1 vehicle can cause to another it cures you real quick. I'll admit that it's still somewhat tempting every now and then on the expressway, but it is at that point that I find a semi to get behind. I now wont go more than 10, at times 15 over the limit, and would consider myself a conservative driver. Edited for grammatical errors. Did you get a different car than the one you had in August? Nope, same one! Hey.....I admitted right then and there, when I pulled up that I didn't get a chance to wash it before leaving the house. The interior was clean mind you, it was the exterior that was dusty and whatnot. I got the tuneup done on the car today...and everything looks good. My mechanic said that it is the cleanest, most well maintained high-millage vehicle (151,000) that he has ever seen in his career. I wish I could take the credit for that compliment, but the truth is I lucked out with this car in the sense that the person I bought it from kept meticulous maintenance records; when I bought the car this time last year a huge stack of documentation came with it, detailing everything that has ever been done. Now that I have the mechanic's seal approval all I want to do is get in the car and go; 24 more days. I love road trips!
