Good post, Randy. Glad you're ok! The best things in life are dangerous.

Around 50 jumps ago, I got my current canopy. Out of sheer curiosity and the desire to get to know my wing better, I decided last weekend to land it just using rear risers. It planed out a little further than it does on toggles, but then the lift disappeared almost instantly and I was dropped on my feet and stumbled for a step or two. Is this normal, or do I need to give more riser input? For all you swoopers out there, is this part of the reason using rear risers on a swoop is tricky? -Cheers The best things in life are dangerous.

I guess since I put a few flights on this prototype at FnD, I'll throw in my 2 cents on how I thought it flew: -It inflated a lot quicker out the door than the Phantom, and stayed inflated throughout the entire flight. Even flocking, the tail wing just wouldn't flap at all. The the tail wing of the Phantom 1 I flew liked to flap no matter what I did with my legs, though this may have been because it was a borrowed suit. -It has a good bit more "pop" in flocking, probably due to the slightly larger arm wings. -On a solo maxed out flight, I easily equaled my best performance in the Phantom in terms of both distance covered (measured by the mk. 1 eyeball!) and flight time (Around 2:30). It felt like there was still more performance to be had, though. -It's every bit as easy to fly as the first Phantom with more range. I really liked the re-designed grippers, too. They're the same as on the Ghost. Verdict: I can't wait for mine to arrive!!! Cheers The best things in life are dangerous.

I AM in my early 20's, and I still find Dane Cook to be an annoying turd and not funny at all. People I went to college with thought he was hilarious, though. The best things in life are dangerous.

Definitely a good idea to err on the conservative side. I almost learned my lesson about winds the hard way this weekend. It is a very very scary thing to be in the air with 25 other canopies and crazy winds that have you coming down straight down over the hangar, no penetration to speak of and a very sketchy landing area as your only option. I made it ok, but someone who landed in the same spot 5 minutes after me didn't. The best things in life are dangerous.

Alan Davies, Dave Attel, and Rodney Carrington. Definitely not Dane Cook, though. That guy is not even close to being funny. The best things in life are dangerous.

Ok, this sounds silly but...

I edited my reply, I should really read the whole thread before writing. Someone already mentioned the Baser, which was the rig I was refering to. The best things in life are dangerous. -

If it was a reputable DZ, then it's very doubtful that it was a full-on BASE rig. The DZO stands to get into a shit-ton of trouble if they allow something like that. The best things in life are dangerous. -
I'm confused. Is IT......herpes? The best things in life are dangerous.

Are you "sick" of unnecessary "quotation" marks?
millertimeunc replied to NWFlyer's topic in The Bonfire
Yeah, I'm "sick" of the "unnecessary" quotation "marks", and RANDOM captialization is REALLY ANNOYING. While we're at it, alot is not a word. It never has been. You're means you are, which is not the same at your, which is a possesive. I review performance reports at work, and I have to deal with this crap on a daily basis. Depending on when I get it, it might come along with me for my first solo at pilot training. The best things in life are dangerous.

Go on youtube, do a search for "family guy ipecac". That should answer your question nicely The best things in life are dangerous.

Hell yeah, I'll be there! -
High WLs, Low Experience.. Where Are the S&TAs?

You're a friggin lightweight, I'm gonna try and land my wingsuit! The best things in life are dangerous. -
High WLs, Low Experience.. Where Are the S&TAs?
millertimeunc replied to MagicGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm sure concerned with some 200 jump jackass on a 1.9 Katana or similarly loaded wing who decides he wants to do a "gnarly swoop" into the landing pattern and hooks himself into someone on final approach because he's too inexperienced to know what he's doing (this has almost happened to me twice), but jumps don't necessarily mean everything. The two near collision's I've had were both with very (>1000 jumps) experienced pilots. I am therefore very paranoid under canopy, regardless of who's around. I listen to the S&TA's as well, but the people who make the good choices could still be subject to danger from the dumbasses who don't or think they already know it all. Just my $.02 The best things in life are dangerous. -
Fastest way to fall on Belly?
millertimeunc replied to tripleflip18's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Two words: Wind tunnel. Some decent coaching helped me sort out my fall rate issues pretty quickly. -
Woke up on the 12th floor in a communist era apartment block in Bratislava (Slovakia) with a girl from Brazil. No idea who the place belonged to, and no idea how I got there. Absinthe was involved. The best things in life are dangerous.

I'm looking at getting another suit. Anybody in the Florida area have a Pro-fly I could try? The best things in life are dangerous.

The lines and canopy both have less than 150 jumps, and the slider grommets are stainless with no sign of burrs or rough areas. Is it a question of wing loading? I'm loading mine at around 1.3, but that shouldn't make a difference, should it? The best things in life are dangerous.

It's not alcoholism, it's called "hair of the dog that bit you." In other words, a beer in the shower in the morning helps get rid of the hangover caused by the previous night so you'll be ready to go get plastered again that night. Alcoholism? What's that?!? Ah, college... The best things in life are dangerous.

I've been told by a rigger or two that I'm a "beefy young lad" , so the 8 inches of chest strap means I'm not leaving any slack for the main lift web to slip down my shoulders. I fly a wingsuit as well, and I've had my shoulder straps slide down my arms slightly from the chest strap being too loose, which is no fun at all. I honestly believe that if I pitched and did nothing else, the slider would hang about a foot below the canopy and stay there. As soon as the canopy's out and catching air, I'm on the rear risers just in case it hangs up again, and it almost always does. I've experimented with this a couple of times letting the slider stay for several seconds, and stays up there until I do something about it. This bothers me because the canopy seem very twitchy and prone to twist up until it's fully open. Perhaps I'm packing it to open too slowly? As it stands right now, it opens slower than my old Spectre did, which is saying a lot. The best things in life are dangerous.

Not unreasonably tight, probably about 8 inches pulled through the buckle and stowed. The best things in life are dangerous.

The lines on your Sabre 2 were probably spectra, which shrink over time from friction. As I understand, HMA lines don't shrink at all from friction, but I could be wrong. I'm curious why it happened on both of the canopies I jumped, and if others out there have been having the same problem. The best things in life are dangerous.
