  1. ROTC, May 12, 2007. Started here 24 July of this year. The best things in life are dangerous.
  2. I just finished my first week on the flight line here at Columbus Air Force Base. There's much to learn and I've still got a long way to go, but I'm having a stone cold blast learning how to fly, and the T-6 is an absolute beast! How can you not like 1100 shaft horsepower? Anyway, just thought I'd share. Cheers, -Matt The best things in life are dangerous.
  3. It takes some practice, but on average, I'm getting 15+ seconds more on the Phantom 2 than I did on the Phantom 1. The fall rate was the same at first, but with time and jumps, it's dropping. As for the forward speed, I don't really know! I don't have a GPS, so all I have to measure with is puffy white clouds and the Mk. 1 eyeball. It sure seems faster. It inflates solidly out the door and stays inflated throughout the flight. Most importantly, though, it plays nice with others. I've done flocks with SM1's all the way down to classics with no problems. The best things in life are dangerous.
  4. I flew both of them quite a bit, and currently fly a Phantom 2. At first glance, they don't *look* all that different, but the proof is in the flying. The Phantom 2 does everything the Phantom 1 does, only better. It's still every bit as easy to fly. Get the back vents if you order one. The best things in life are dangerous.
  5. Congrats, bro! Awesome pics, too. I think DSE did a helluva job on camera! Now you need to get 200, so that when the ladies ask how many jumps you have, you can say "hundreds." ........And also so you can fly wingsuits with me.
  6. Part of the paint job on the back of the first helmet I ever bought for skydiving. I'll see if I can dig up a picture. The best things in life are dangerous.
  7. If you want a vampire, go ahead and get one. It was the first wingsuit I bought. Word of warning, though, the vampire has 2 speeds (at least with my body type): fast and overtaking everyone, or stall and sinking out. There was no in-between for me. That's why I got rid of my vampire and got a Phantom 2, which I can flick around like a go-kart and do whatever I want with. The vampire isn't dangerous per-se (very stable, in fact), it's just the wrong tool for the job if you want to be able to play nice with everyone. The best things in life are dangerous.
  8. Congrats, and welcome! I started my AFF at Raeford with Roy Harper Jr., and jumped for a long time after at CSS (closer to school at the time). Both are great DZ's. I consider CSS to be like family to me.
  9. Ummm...nothing, it was just an "S"? The best things in life are dangerous.
  10. No, but I'm really good friends with Mike Hawk. He's always stood up for me when I needed him. The best things in life are dangerous.
  11. Yep, and if a nation wants to ethnically cleanse the "undesireables" from its boundaries, it would be arrogant beyond belief to think that we have the right to intervene. After all, each country has the right to choose their way of life, right? I guess I shouldn't be so concerned about Darfur, and shame on Clinton for intervening with Milosevic! Maybe we should just return to isolationism. Oh wait, that didn't work out so well, as I recall... The best things in life are dangerous.
  12. I really like my Benchmade, but I always carry my Emerson when I fly. The best things in life are dangerous.
  13. +1 on the Ambien. We had to ground test them here at pilot training since the Air Force uses them as "No Go" pills. Knocked my 6', 185lb. ass out in about 20 minutes, and was the best sleep of my life. Don't know about taking it with alcohol, though... The best things in life are dangerous.
  14. I jump a 170 Nitron loaded at 1.3 for wingsuiting. My only recommendation is to not roll the tail too much unless you like a long snivel. Other than that, it opens soft and on heading, behaves well in line twists, is fun to fly, and has great slow flight characteristics and landings.
  15. The difference between us is that you're a lifer by choice. I'm going to be a lifer because of my job. Kudos, bro! The best things in life are dangerous.
  16. I don't know how old he is, but Larry gets over 3 minutes with his Mach 1 pretty regularly. He flies out at Carolina Sky Sports, mostly. The best things in life are dangerous.
  17. We had to watch most of his movies (all except Fahrenheit 911) in a sociology class I had in college. In my opinion, it was a monumental waste of time. It's depressing to see how many people will buy into it hook, line, and sinker without doing any research on their own. I'll give MM credit for being able to make you see what he wants you to see. The best things in life are dangerous.
  18. Wow, somebody else had the same dream as me! In most of my skydiving dreams, my canopy seems to be at least 100 feet above me. It snivels until i'm about 3 feet off the ground, then I hover there and wait for it to open, then it opens and I stand up the landing. Strange... I've also had one where I was at Palatka and had a bag lock that I fought all the way until I burned in. I stood up, dusted myself off, and pulled both my handles so nobody would think I was a loser for going in without pulling my cutaway or reserve. Then Art comes over and yells at me for going in, and Jeff gives me a long lecture about safety. I think Scott Miller talked about having a similar dream once... 19. Haha, nah, I was responding to Jeff's post about 3:40 from 13k-2k in the Tony Suit "XS". C'mon Jeff, is it for sale yet?!? The best things in life are dangerous.
  20. Or just get a Phantom 2. It has an air locked leg wing!
  21. No need to start a campaign or anything.
  22. That's part of the reason I get really irritated when another skydiver says "hey, how do you like flying that birdman suit?" It's a WINGSUIT, Phoenix Fly phantom 2, specifically, but unfortunately the name "birdman suit" has become synonymous with wingsuit. The best things in life are dangerous.
  23. Honestly, it's more down to how well you fly your body than the particular suit. I've done plenty of RW jumps in my FF suit, and the only thing different is the puzzled looks on peoples' faces when they can't find the grippers on my legs and arms. The best things in life are dangerous.
  24. Vampire-1. Then I realized the error of my ways and got a Phantom 2 instead. Great suit! The best things in life are dangerous.
