  1. Immediately after YOU have a "good" opening and are under a land-able canopy, what do YOU do? --- After watching some videos shot by medium-young-low-timers, I started to think about what their post-opening routines had in common. No right or wrong answers. I'm just curious about what YOU actually do. Thanks for the info. - David PS - Even though you may have opinions different from people who respond to this thread, try not to gang up on them quickly. Doing so will just keep others from responding. It would be good to see a realistic cross-section. 2. What is a "Half Moon" (listed as an option from Tony Suits)? And, are they a worthwhile addition to a suit? - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

  7. I just wanted to let this thread re-surface and see if there are any differing opinions now in 2008. One thing that I've noticed is that a lot of students do a sort of windshield-wiper from the elbows kind of lazy wave-off (like treading water or something). Personally, I look like an albatross trying to take off (like horizontal jumping jacks). 8. Um, yeah...congrats on skydive number one. I hope you have many more. You may want to count the number of times that you've posted on dropzone.com "I'm 16!" and see if you can just put it in your signature line so you don't have to keep typing it. Have fun. 10. I heard a story of this actually happening where a kid went down the rack of rigs and pulled the reserves. As a friend put it, "I heard this pop, pop, pop, pop, turned around and there was this kid holding a bunch of reserve handles." True. Goddamn... I'd hate to see the bill given to the stupid parent. The parent in this story is now a TI. Not sure about when it happened though. You'll have to ask Andy. 12. By "get you in a lot of trouble", did you actually mean "get you and others killed"? Not sure about the shaping of your questions, but does it matter whether something dangerous is intentional or unintentional? The potential outcomes are the same. To everyone: Why do you think it is called the "Cone of Death"? Maybe because it is a safe area to fly into, or perhaps not (death = good or bad)? There's a reason this cone exists above AND below the tandem. SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

I've been thinking a lot about the role of the "B" license lately, especially when I hear of a good amount of skydivers who skip their "B". In looking at the requirements for a "B", it appears to primarily be a milestone license. What I mean is that it looks more like it was set as a goal for continued achievement after earning an "A", than something which grants the holder much more beyond the "A". If this is true, then the person who signs off the "A" proficiency card should hand the skydiver a new card with his/her "B" requirements. If we're going to call for more education (check how many times that was mentioned in the USPA candidate blurbs), then we've got to set a system into motion that builds off the framework that is already in place. Otherwise we're throwing too much "new stuff" into the system which will be rejected by the stodgy up-jumpers who guide these new "A" holders. - David (A-holder) SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

  17. Four of my former high school students have skydived. Two were tandems and two are licensed. I take credit for none...so, don't blame me. 18. Incidents Forum Fatality Database I hope you were kidding. By the way, the waiver is a legal document which you should read before you sign. 19. It's getting so you can't walk on to a DZ and shout "Hey Asshole!" anymore either..... Yes you can. If it's a PC family-friendly DZ, just shout "Parents! Ear-muffs!" first. 22. Sounds like you need to mellow out and not be so twitchy. If you react blindly to occurrances in freefall, you may make a wrong move. Try to think about your moves, rather than knee-jerk reacting. You'll find that taking that extra time will still allow you to react quick enough, and you won't be wasting time doing the wrong thing. 24. This is just a personal request. If you happen to really, really want to see someone land, then get out there while they're on jump run. I had a mild fight-or-flight moment last weekend when a veteran skydiver broke into a sprint toward the landing area. I couldn't see the landing area, so I thought "oh $hit" and started to drop my lunch and run myself. Then he stopped running after about 50 yards and continued by just walking. Soon my pulse started to drop back into the normal range. It was just instinct, but mine was telling me to do something. Maybe it would be good to think through the "what would I actually have done" before finding out that the next one is not a drill. I guess I'm at that point where it feels like every weekend is a lottery...but not the good kind. Be safe guys...please. 25. Wow...out of the closet just like that? I guess Alabama doesn't have laws against that stuff. Be careful in Georgia man. Everybody keep your goats locked up when Billy comes around.
