  1. First I'm gonna take you out to dinner, and then I'm gonna go back to my apartment and watch kung fu. Do you ever watch kung fu? I love kung fu. Channel 39. Totally. You should come over and watch kung fu tonight. Ok. Ok. Can we order lunch first? Ok.
  2. Michael Bolton: Uh, yeah, well, I work at Initech and I don't consider myself a pussy, OK? Samir: Yes, I am also not a pussy.
  3. Yeah, I watched the edited version with commercials last night on AMC. It's weird. I have the movie on DVD. I can watch it any time I want, unedited, without commercials, but for some reason I just had to watch it when it came on TV. One of my favorite parts: (Peter is wearing shorts and sandals with his feet on his desk, eating chips and playing tetris) Bill Lumbergh: Hello Peter, what's happening? Listen, are you gonna have those TPS reports for us this afternoon? Peter Gibbons: No. Bill Lumbergh: Ah. Well then I suppose we should go ahead and have a little talk. Peter Gibbons: Not right now Lumbergh, I'm kinda busy. You know what, in fact I'm gonna have to ask you to just go ahead and come back later, I've got a meeting with the Bobs in a couple minutes.

Congratulations to Grant (aka Scrumpot) on his 1000th logged jump!!!! Pieing picture attached. More pics here
  7. If I had a really cool 3chip DVcam camera that I could care less about, I'd seriously consider donating it to an 87 jump wonder who is looking to upgrade from his crappy JVC so he can make some serious amateur BASE DVDs and home porn flicks
  8. Cool! It would be good to see you again. Last time I saw you I think we were both sub 100 jumps. My sister lives in Connecticut and I've been meaning to take a trip to CPI to check things out. I'll let you know if I do.
  9. Warning to anyone considering sharing the bunkhouse with Grant... The Delaware Seismological Institute contacted our dropzone a while back after detecting some unusual seismic activity emanating from the airport. Turns out it was just Grant snoring

  12. Yeah, the sounds and the feelings of boat truly in sync were quite stirring -- a great adrenaline rush. That's about the time I'd usually catch a crab!
  13. Univeristy of Scranton 97-98 4th seat in an 8 man boat. We were awful, but it was fun. I loved being on the river at sunrise. I'm not rowing now -- too many other activites. Edited to add: Did I just say I loved being in the most polluted river in America (Susquehanna) at 4:30 in the morning when it was 40 degrees out?
  14. I can't wait to see them dirt dive this: "OK, Mike, Mike, and Mike, you be outside. Mike and Mike, you take chest straps, and Mike, you dive out."
  15. I'm not sure why anyone would want to ditch 4 hot skychicks. Why not rent a minivan and bring them along? Alternatively, you could come up and join us for our Casa boogie July 8th, 9th, and 10th. Kegs, cookout, a bonfire, a band, and tailgate exits!

  18. In my state, to commit a criminal trespass there must be signs placed where they reasonably may be seen or you have to enter or remain on the property after being notified by the owner not to do so. Look around on the web and you can probably find the criminal trespass statute in your state. Civil trespass is a lot easier to commit, but unless you do real damage, a law suit against you would probably be a waste of time.

    GTA San Andreas

    HEY!!! NO SITE NAMING!!!
  20. It's all a matter of perspective when it comes to North vs. South. I'm a Marylander. My wife is from Long Island and she considers me a Southerner. On the other hand, all my Virginia relatives think I'm a damn Yankee from up North. I do think it's great that these awards are being revived somewhere other than Texas (not that there's anything wrong with Texas)!
  21. Team up with Skydive Delmarva's RW Concepts this weekend to commemorate and pay tribute to the architects and founders of freefall Relative Work. The Bob Buquor Memorial Star Crest Awards, begun in 1967, are the original, traditional, and time-honored awards for recognizing proficiency in freefall formation skydiving. They distinguish a qualifying parachutist as a “Select Type of Accomplished Relative Worker Combining Reliability, Enthusiasm, Skill, and Teamwork.” Robert H. Buquor was a skydiving pioneer who played a major role in the origin of star formation relative work in the 1960s. He initiated and photographed the majority of the early star attempts in Arvin, California and captured the first 8-man star there on film on October 17th, 1965. Tragically though, Bob drowned off Malibu Beach, California in 1966 while filming a dangerous movie sequence for a major studio and it is to his driving enthusiasm for skydiving in general, and RW in particular, that these awards and membership in the BBMSC are dedicated. RW Concepts will focus their efforts this weekend towards organizing skydives designed to give interested jumpers the opportunity to earn these prestigious awards. The SCR is awarded to all participants of a freeflown 8-way or larger formation held stable for a minimum of 5 seconds. The SCS is earned by entering 8th or later into a freeflown 8-way or larger star formation also held stable for a minimum of 5 seconds. So mark your calendars and make plans to attend this SCR/SCS awards camp and earn YOUR Star Crest awards. Award applications will be available during this weekend and once submitted to and validated by BBMSC, recipients will receive their official Star Crest numbers and have their names permanently entered onto the roles of the BBMSC where you will be in good company with many of the forefathers of our sport. Remember, everyone is a one man star! To build something bigger you gotta do RW!! IMPORTANT NOTE: to help us plan ahead, RW Concepts would like to get an idea of how many people will be participating in this event. Please contact us via this web site: http://www.skydivedelmarva.com/contact_us/rwconcepts.html Thanks and we hope to see you all there. Blue skies…..

    Tips and Tricks

I thought it would be cool to have a thread where everyone posts little things that have made their base lives easier. I'll get it started with three things that I do: 1. When stashing my gear, I always put my helmet in last and up-side-down to avoid getting sweat all over my canopy. I've read in several places that sweat is one of the worst things for your canopy. 2. I always keep an extra tailgate rubberband on each handle of my packing clamps. That's a total of eight rubberbands right there when you need one. 3. I always tie a slip knot to close my stash bag. That way it never slips open when I don't want it to, and I can still open it quickly when I do want to.
  24. Here's another one from the same friend about Bridge Day 1983. --------------------------------------- An estimated 25,000 people came out for Bridge Day, October 8, 1983. That is the only day each year for skydivers to legally leap off the world's longest steel arch bridge. The New River Gorge Bridge is the second highest bridge in the U.S.-spanning 876 feet above the world's second oldest river. It was a beautiful day in Fayetteville, West Virginia. The sun was shining and temperatures were in the mid 70's. Festivites included a marathon race, some repellers, but skydivers were definitely the main event. Over 230 jumpers registered for the boogie and over 500 jumps were made. The whoffos got their eyes full of some scary stuff this year. Some skydivers entertained them by flipping over on their backs and pitching their pilot chute between their legs. Other jumpers would pack with their slider up to make it seem like their canopy wouldn't be fully open until they were about to splash in the river. One girl even had a line over and cut away. She managed to get her reserve out just in time. Even though there were some scary jumps, most of the jumpers entertained the crowd by stepping off in a head high position and falling stable for three or four seconds before pitching out. Among these jumpers were six Diamond State Skydivers: John Thomas, who made three jumps; Liz Collins who was the first one to make the leap that day. Liz and Al Shinaberrry each made two jumps. Wildman Wallace Price, who may have been the only Black to make the leap, made one jump; Charlie England, who was probably the oldest, but definitely one of the happiest, made his first Base jump, and did it perfectly. John Newton who did much better this time, compared to the one he made from the catwalk in May, also made one jump. Another real crowd pleaser was when two guys took off a perfect two way line and then built a stack. The thing I enjoyed most, other than my jumps, was hearing all the Yea Hahs and Wha Hoohs!!!, and seeing all those smiling faces as the jumpers gathered up their chutes and made room for the next jumper to land. All in all, I thought it was a good boogie. I can hardly wait until next October. As long as they continue to allow jumpers on Bridge Day, you can bet I will be there!! Al Shinaberry C-14564
