  1. Well, there are times when you simply can't pull at 1200 meters… On bigways I often pull at, or even below, 2000 ft for safety reasons. then adjust your decision-making accordingly.. and here i was thinking minimum pull altitudes were 2500ft, guess i was wrong or bigway-jumpers are "breaking the law" regularly. Well, I guess you have never been on a bigway with jumpers ahead, to the left, right and even above and/or below at deployment altitude. This is not about "breaking the law" but to avoid a potentially serious situation for everyone. It is all about reading the situation correctly and making good judgment calls for the benefit of everyone, not only yourself you can try talking your way out all you want while missing my point; adjust your decision-making accordingly! i've seen a guy cutting away at 300 meters, he just had enough time to pull his toggles before he landed in the trees. that shit happens if you're a toggle monkey and s-turn until your canopy decides to twist up on you (totally avoidable by proper decision-making!!!). do you really want to rely on some BACKUP-device to save your life? and you want to make it mandatory for everyone? we've had plenty of people already that probably thought "hey, i got a skyhook, i can still cutaway.." - until they couldnt. and we've also already had documented cases of missrigging. adjust your decision-making accordingly.. and nope, i havent been on bigways, that shit's too scary, i stay with small canopies and BASEjumping! “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. 4. RSL's and skyhooks, the answers to all skydivers problems.. how about you pull at reasonable altitudes and make your decisions before ants look like fucking cows!? just for the record, i'm a basejumper too and in skydiving i pull around 1200 meters! “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. 9. THAT IS AWESOME!! I'm happy for you. Your health will be better and that lovely woman you're marrying will have you around for a long, long time!! if only i didnt do a whole lot more BASEjumping.. ¨ i've earned my BASE# last weekend! qualifying jump, not quite as spectacular as the WTC-guys, but close enough; the giggling like a little school-girl and the smile at the end says everything!
  10. almost 4 weeks sober; one day at a time.. i'm getting old and boring! “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Thompson "No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try." -Yoda
  11. I'd go with the best customer service vs cheapest (in any product I buy). i've bought a safire2 about 3yrs ago from NZaerosports and had funky openings right from the start; i just talked to them and they'll change the lineset if necessary and will actually testjump it before they send it back, free of charge. i think that's pretty good service.
  12. I am SO stealing that! that one had me laughing as well.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Thompson "No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try." -Yoda
  13. Not necessarily...airplanes take a different kind of fuel than motorbikes...cost more to transport a smaller quantity of magic gas so that may be a factor. Also as mentioned - supply & demand, if it's a small operation the basic overhead needs to be covered by a smaller draw of customers...it is what it is. should come here, we have SUPERmagic fuel.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. 14. probably you'll end up seeing bluhdows friend earlier than he will.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Thompson "No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try." -Yoda
  15. i got one from UPT and didnt have a use for it; called them up, asked if it was ok to give it away.. made a little competition in the bonfire for pics of boobies.. several years later i wanted to order a new rig, sure thing, called up UPT again, and you know what? ended up getting the SAME discount. in the end they sold two rigs and made two jumpers really happy. karma paid off well!
  16. i have one ride on an optimum, the opening was very comfortable and the landing smooth as butter. the way the malfunction occured, neither my body-position nor anything else was "textbook-like" when i deployed. probably doesnt answer your question, but i would trust my life to an optimum any day. i'm a fan of it!
  17. then EVERY skydiver and BASEjumper on this planet would have a serious problem. those helmets are rated to impacts of about 20km/h. a normal skier usually goes around 50-60km/h. not even a motorcycle helmet would let you survive a direct hit. OK..I'm a bit confused. you dont need to drill holes for your gopro; you just stick it on. in fact, that glue will even withstand a bridle-snag.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsEI_6cErbM that has killed at least one BASEjumper already. skiing helmets are rated to impacts of 20km/h; someone else do the math for you yanks. intermediate skiers are going at speeds of 50-60km/h; good skiers have speeds well in excess of 80km/h. not even a motorcycle helmet, which are typically much heavier and better built than skiing-helmets, will have an outcome in a head/helmet hitting directly a rock, as in schumachers case. if you still cant get it, then yes, you probably did have a stroke. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. 19. all those physics and no metric system used - i'm a little disappointed, to say the least!
  20. When I was a kid, I skiied frequently here in my home state of Colorado. I also rode bikes. Back then, no one wore helmets. Today, nearly everyone wears a helmet while riding a bicycle. Sadly, almost no one wears a helmet skiing. The vast majority of skiing tragedies could be stopped with this simple thing. Also, if you ever see anyone go head-first into a snow drift or a tree well, please pull them out first, before you start laughing. One cannot breathe when his/her head is buried in snow. There's plenty of time to laugh at him/her afterwards. here in switzerland, you're really a loner if you DONT wear a helmet; i was really surprised the last time i hit the slopes, but i do go hardly anymore these days.. i really think that's a good trend actually!

  25. Be is as it may, it's still infuriating to listen to someone spew garbage on unsuspecting public. Internet is a wonderful thing, but it gives people a false sense of expertise :) back in the days when i started this jumping-thingy, my instructor said "dude, DO NOT EVER take ANY advice from dropzone.com; it's DANGEROUS!". he does have a point.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S.
