I got a really weird one just now: www.fusenow.org - a foundation or something which tries to mobilise faith communities to "act on the increasingly harmful effects of our country's dependence on fossil fuels." Er... run which way? "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Good news, dude! They're actually asking for volunteers (far right, top button)! Most is BS about hanging pictures, getting sponsors etc. but there are some interesting vacancies: "Enthusiastic photographers who have ideas about how one can make beautiful pictures of 1000 redheads." "Redhead spotters who'll tell natural redheads they meet about this website" "coffee [servers] who'll pour the redheads coffee" (duh) "anyone who'd like to organise something fun on redhead day is also welcome" "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

All I could find was some low-risk, easy to detect and delete tracking cookie. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

I did that accident'ly while trying to find out what the eff my browser was talking about. You just get a normal banner, for velocity sportswear in this case. Be back later - 'm gonna run ad-aware now.. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

don't worry - your secret is safe with me. After all, it takes one to know one "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

I get that too, around 50% of the times I open a page. - and the banner up top says "navigation to the webpage is cancelled", or remains white altogether when this happens "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Aw, c'mon! I can do it - it's not exactly brain surgery, you know... "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Fortunately I have never been in a situation like this and I hope I'll never find out for sure, but I think if this applied to me I would like to do everything I can to stop the name of my firend or relative being abused. FWIW though, here's the message I tried to send the bitch. At first I treid to be civil, but I just couldn't. "You need help. Abusing a news item like that, in order to promote your little scammy website and actually having the nerve to tag it with skydive?? What the FUCK do you think Caseys friends and relatives will think when they see that video of yours, mrs. Portal? Imagine them searching for a nice skydiving video, say, the last one casey ever posted, and instead ending up with that filth of yours? But then again, you only care about publicity, don't you. The fact that you've disabled comments on that vid but still leave the vid itself on here tells me all I need to know about you and the other self-styled psychics on your website. Hell, you probably won't even read this. Remaining in utter contempt, Dennis." this is so sick - I can't believe that people can be such attention depraved media-whores! Diverdriver, thank you for sharing. Though it must be awful for Caseys's friends and relatives to watch that bull, at least they now know about this and can take steps. EDIT: "You have tried to send a message to DesteniProductions. This person has enabled friend lock. You will not be able to send messages to them unless they add you as a friend. " Quelle surprise.. JEB CORLISS SUCESSFULLY LANDS WINGSUIT!!
Baksteen replied to Acoisa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nooooo!? What i was crudely implying is that landing a wingsuit is not at all difficult - anyone can do it. Doing it more than once (or anything else after the first time for that matyter) []that's the trick "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom -

Yeah, but can he do it more than once? "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom -
I guess we all have these moments or, in my case, years. Tell us all about it. You'll feel better for it. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Yes, of course - that's another example of when I must. I'll certainly be practicing stuff up high, in fact, I've spent the entire winter on high hop and pops doing canopy control, but what I'm asking is why I'd need to actually land on rears rather than just practicing up high, with someone else (like a canopy coach) as my reference. Given the sensitivity of the canopy to rear input compared to toggles landing it that way sounds outright dangerous and should certainly not be attempted by someone who is, say, thinking about downsizing from a 288 to a 240 - even student canopies can stall using rears, yes? Not flaming, I just don't understand why "landing on rears" is on the checklist in the first place? Sure, I need to know what my canopy does when I give riser input - but why actually land it on rears if both toggles are just fine? What is the added value of intentionally making your landing more dangerous, especially if you are a newb like me? Canopy control is heaps of fun, but I won't land my main on rears unless I really have to; say a broken steering line below 1K. Otherwise it's bye-bye main and hello reserve. If I'm not mistaken Chris-Ottawa didn't post in this thread since November 5, while the thread itself dies on November 23 or something. So why are we bashing him again on March 28? Whether he took the advice he got to heart or went ahead and stuck with his canopy of choice anyway is unlikely to be changed by resurrecting this old thing. Though i must say 50% off is a good deal, many people with more jump numbers and experience than I got will tell you that you really don't want a customised brand new rig right now. As you say you won't be jumping that 240 for any longer than that it takes for your instructors to clear you for a smaller size canopy. Containers are manufactured for a certain size of canopy; the one capable of holding your 240 may or may not fit a 210. And as you progress you will probably want to downsize again at some point, meaning you'll probably want to resell your current relatively new canopy to someone. The bigger these canopies are, the fewer prospective buyers you got. Perhaps it's best to look at older gear first, if the price difference is significant you may be better off with a less than perfect second hand rig. Contact the (wings) manufacturer tell them which main you wnat and what reserve size and ask them what sizes of that main parachute the container will hold. If it's 260/240 it's maybe better to wait until you're ready for a 210, so you can buy a container hich fits a 210/190 (sizes are random examples). That way you'll save yourself the money of having to buy a smaller container along with a smaller main. That's my advice, for what it's worth. Better yet, ask your instructors. Has your friend told the management about his work times? Over here the management NEVER notices when one works late or gets there early, what with them being scrupulous 9-5 workers and all, but they sure notice when you go home at 16.30. When confronted with the fact that I had gone home at 16.30 one day, i shrugged and replied that I work to the job, not the clock. In that case that meant I had worked non-stop the previous day, from 8.00 to 21.00... The reply i got wasa huffy: "You can't expect me to keep tables of when everyone comes in early or leaves late." I pointed out that she did seem to keep such a table for people who leave early and my boss never brought up the subject again. As to computer access, you can't even install a company approved computer program, such as photoshop unless you're an administrator. Sicne the IT department doesn't have time to go around the scores of computers installing all the programs which people need they solved the problem by making anyone who asks administrator. The startup program DOES delete all cookies and the browsing history every day, and resets the internet homepage to that of the university. Since everyone is way too lazy to keep on typing their hotmail every day, this means that usually everyone simply logs on on monday morning, and shuts down on friday evening, locking the PC if they remember to. Except that any administrator can unlock every computer... How's that for security? I hate numbers. statistically you would be correct. However, I am 27 but have no driver's licence. Therefore, those statistics don't apply to me. Should I decide to get it after all, I might be wise to stick with the Ford Escort a little while longer, even though the statistics suggest that I will probably be OK with the Ferrari.
