  3. Has a "mutated pickles"-fetish Au contraire... I'm the only shoulder they can cry on. Paper bags, and all that "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

  6. Two reasons I chose a full-face: 1) Nice and warm in winter 2) I should be worrying about foot in mouth disease when doing RW with other newbies. I tried on both the Freezr Mk II and Z1 and bought the Z1 as it afforded me slightly better peripheral vision than the Freezr. So far, no regrets... 8. Hi there, If you ever find yourself in the Netherlands see if you can get to the DZ in Teuge and say that to the barlady, Susan. Please let me know in advance so I can come and laugh at you. 9. Before or after seeing the viseo loads of times? "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  10. I know you're talking about experienced people and all that, but the "280 sq ft cross braced freefly friendly tandems" are probably not manufactured solely for stunts with experienced jumpers. They are targeted at the bored TI's who have hauled so many students that they need a challenge on their jump. The sad thing (IMO) is these things actually sell. I somewhere read the bogus argument that an x-braced/280 canopy will penetrate in higher winds. Poor justification. What if there's no wind but the only tandem rigs available are the 280s? Will the tandems be put on "no wind hold"? Novel and controversial suggestion: If the conditions are poor, TIs should sit down until the conditions improve again. If that gets the TI sacked, well - they were probably working for the wrong DZO anyway. No. Like has been said before, students should be taken on (for the TI) "boring" rides, while experienced jumpers are free to kill entertain themselves any way they see fit, provided it's within the limitations the manufacturers and DZs (should) enforce. Skydiving isn't safe - all a TI can do for their student is to limit the risks as much as possible. If they feel "hauling meat" is getting boring, they should stop working for tandem factories, get a regular job or win the lottery and use that money to make (more) fun jumps. 14. Yeah I thought it was... but it's still what a true troll would post.
  15. Standard post-pulling sequence: 1) Glance at canopy to check for the more obvious mals 2) grab rears, check for traffic and turn 90 degrees to jumprun 3) open the visor of my fullface 4) Collapse slider 5) pop toggles and perform a second canopy check for the sneakier malfunctions (such as tension knots) 6) loosen cheststrap 7) Have some fun under canopy (altitude and distance to LZ permitting, obviously). 16. For anyone doubting, that is a shining example of a troll post (despite the fact that the user who made it very well might be "real"). Dear Dropdeded, it is unlikely someone registered an account in 2002 for trolling purposes and didn't get caught in the six years that passed in the meantime, especially since they made over 11k posts. Come on people, give over.. Please remember the well known fable by Aesop about The Boy Who Cried Funks"... 17. I haven't done much RW as of yet, so currently I like to break off at 4500. My preferred opening altitude is 3000 ft, minimum (as per the regulations) 2500. two hundred jumps is not a lot. Sixty is even fewer. Students and up jumpers really don't have the same.. "3d overview" that experienced jumpers have (can't think of the appropriate word). Where did I lose sight of them? Perhaps when the beginning of my track wobbled, or when they lost altitude awareness and were surprised by their audible going off. Shit simply does happen, more so for rookies. Perhaps, perhaps not. But like I said, the movement might alert me to their presence. It's not about the timespan the waveoff lasts, but my desperate attempt at a sideslide to avoid the other guy, or immediately pulling as I see them waveoff directly below me and their pilot leaving just might mean that at least one of us is entering shit creek with a wooden spoon if not a paddle. 18. Ah dude - you be a cold one. Most people would simply get a divorce. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  19. When? I'm not sure I understand your question. But at the end of the freefall? Yes, but how long does a n00b like me track? 5 secs? 10? And while YOU might see me and are able to watch me pull, the other newbie on our threeway and I may not have seen each other. A vigorous wave-off in the corner of my left eye may alert me to the proximity of the other jumper. Waving off does/should not take 1000 feet and it is an easy thing to add to your pull sequence which may help your fellow jumpers. So why not do it? Additionally, I stop what little forward speed my track generates by waving off. "-shrug- " right back at ya, mate "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  20. There's testosterone dripping out of your ears. Please swallow, it might help. Personally, I wouldn't even want to land a slow canopy like a Manta 280 downwind at 15 kts. 15 kts is about 28 kph or 17 mph - without even taking the canopy's own airspeed into account, which in this example should approximate something like an additional 5-7 m/s (or 10-13 kts or 18-25 kph or 11-16 mph). I don't swoop, can't run that fast and as for PLF - would you jump out of a car doing 50 kph (30 mph)? Ball and brain size are not inversely proportional. 21. I'm actually a very insecure person. Except when on a skydive. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

  24. The rest I at least understand what they're hallucinating about. But I was wondering if they might be talking about a pilotchute assist system (which I have never seen). Serious question - how does the pilot assist work? What happens to bag and pilot?
