American cars vs Imports-Personal experience on reliability
ASTKU replied to Darius11's topic in The Bonfire
I have had lots of success with Ford. Bought a 1999 F250 for work in 2004 with 113K miles on it. I had a mechanic go through it to be amazed to find out that all the parts were parts originally on the vehicle when new. Since then I am up to 247K miles and it is still running strong. I did have to replace the alternator a year ago but other than that, No Problems.... I also have owned a bunch of Mustangs a 1967, 1990, 1991,1992,1996, and a 1997 and they were all very good cars. I still have the 1967 Mustang and have owned it for 12 years and have had minimal problems with it.... To me it all depends on how you take care of your vehicle. Oil Changes every 3000miles, Transmission serviced once or twice a year, letting your car warm up before driving it hard.....Just My Opinion -
I dream that I am actually a good skydiver....

Just leave your RSL disconnected and stopping posting moronic analogies.... An airbag is a very precise tool that is used at the perfect moment when needed. I totalled a vehicle and never even remember seeing the airbag deployed. Its that fast. So if your airbag in your car went off when you jammed on the brakes it would probably never be helpful.... The previous poster had it correct. When you cutaway you NEED to get your Reserve out one way or another. An RSL does that automatically!!! For that reason I am keeping mine connected.... -
I thought you weren't supposed to jump a vid camera until like 200 jumps. Is that right?

UHHH in case you didn't know the Skyhook is an RSL..... Of course the skyhookRSL fatality is going to be a lower number than the regular RSL. How long has the Skyhook been in production. How many manufacturers offer this?? Second, how would you ever prove that the RSL killed anybody. What if a student cuts away w/no RSL and immediately deploys the reserve unstable (just like we're taught)? Isn't there still a chance they would get wrapped up in the bridle, pilot chute, etc.etc.?? Been in the sport a year and a half and not saying I know anything but I do know that I didn't even hear about a SkyhookRSL until well after I had bought my own gear..... BTW, I am still keeping my RSL connected!!! -
Thanks for all the ideas and info... I always tie my 3 rings together as well when I pack. So I guess it would be necessary for it to be easy to remove. I am a very conservative canopy pilot and have had stand ups since jump 13 (which is actually my lucky number??). MONKYCNDO and AGGIEDAVE bring up a good point that the carbon fiber probably won't break and would hurt big time...... I shouldn't be worried about snag points with it being on my chest right???

This scenario happened to me on an old Vector rig that I had done AFF on. Apparently somebody had adjusted the harnass for a bigger guy and I was not told. It did not hit my throut during deployment but did impair my ability to look down which made the landing not that pleasant. luckily this wasn't my first jump so everything went well. I doubt this was because of loose leg straps especially with this being a student rig.... BTW when I first started skydiving I had some nice bruises on my thighs and arms as well. Your body will adapt to that.....

Have been in sport about year and a half and have 80 jumps or so. I was thinking about getting one of those Altimeter mounts for your shoulder strap(mudflap). Ive seen the Alti-mount and I think bonehead makes one. It seems like it would be great for freeflying and tracking jumps...... Somebody told me to reconsider because in head down bumping chests with someone would hurt. Is this a valid point? Are there any other reasons why these can potentially be dangerous, another snagpoint, etc.etc......... ANY THOUGHTS??

I am relatively new to the sport (about 70 jumps currently) started jumping in 2-07. But, I have jumped at 8 different drop zones. Four in Texas, one in Missouri, Skydive SanDiego, Mile Hi Skydiving in Colorado, and Skydive Hawaii... So far Skydive Hawaii was definitely the funnest experience I have had jumping. The view was unbelievable! I jumped in Hawaii in 8-07 and I am writing this review because some people bad mouthed this dropzone and I wanted to express my opinion.... I got a total of four jumps in at SD Hawaii and wish I could have done more. Before I made it out there I called and talked to both dropzones out there. I ended up picking SDH because they were much more friendly on the phone and I also believe the Caravan to be a better jump plane. The staff at this dropzone is very friendly and it was very easy to get on a load and get packed. Just like every other dropzone they do make money by doing tandems so I expected to be out there a long time waiting. This was not the case at all. I seriously can see no issues jumping there as long as you jump in the morning. The reason I say that is because the winds get a little bit crazier in the afternoon and at this time having only 40 or so jumps I took there advice and got out there early to avoid any potential danger... At one point I did walk the 50 feet down to the other dropzone and was definitely not welcomed there like I was at SDH. There facility was not near as nice and I just got a bad vibe from it. I am not saying that they don't have a good staff and all that stuff I just wanted to explain the experience from my point of view. Nobody even gave me a "HELLO". They both jump from the same airport and share the same landing zone but the two days I jumped there the Caravan took about 5 times as many loads up as the KingAir. I couldn't figure out why they weren't jumping as much..... So if you have a chance to go to Hawaii bring your rig cause it will be the best jumping experience of your life. I have the pictures to prove it. I can't wait to get the chance to go back... Feel free to send me a message if you have questions or if you want to see some amazing pictures!!
