...skydiving calculations spreadsheet or a .odb type logbook? I'd like to build a logbook/database (using open office base)((www.openoffice.org is FREE and GREAT)) but I don't know how and was hoping someone would have something I could learn from and copy or otherwise butcher to my own ends. What I'd like to create is a logbook / database the is selectable for type of jump and auto calculates free fall time, totals and records all info including cost /income in a fun very user friendly way A friend gave me an MS access logbook but I don't have MS Acess and avoid MS for open source when ever possible. Anybody wanna play

So I felt like crap today(beginning of a sinus infection) but I went to the DZ anyway to pack my rig (left unpacked last night) and hung out for awhile. The DZO calls me over the PA and hands me the pictured "booty" On 10/27 I was allowed to jump onto a school athletic field with 7 other people (Huge landing area) for a "Dare to live an extreme life without drugs" Open Field Demo at a K -6 school about 5 miles from the DZ. We all had a big bag of wrist bands to deliver to a class sitting on the grass at the edge of the field Each of us handed out the bands and spent 20 min answering the kids questions about our rigs and skydiving, it was fun the kids were really sweet. I was 8th out and did a Hop n Pop from 6500 and followed the others in it was a blast. John Fosgate "In the end, its always best to choose the hard right over the easy wrong." I agree... I love mine.... This made me remember sitting in the bloodmobile at Z-Hills on the rained out day of the boogie. Z-Hills does a REALLY COOL THING and GIVES a FREE JUMP TICKET to anyone that donates a pint of blood. (THANK YOU TK) I had completed the questionnaire and interview to donate and MamaJumps is being interviewed. They get to the question about piercings (mind you this is during some very spirited banter ((about organ donors and such))) when the gentleman asked if there were any signs of infection around any of the work accomplished in the last year and where are the affected areas? MamaJumps mumbles something the gentleman says "excuse me" MamaJumps blurts out somewhat loudly "MY WHOHA" and the lady about to shove and needle in my arm (a very beautiful lady of color I might add) starts to die laughing I'm chocking to death laughing the other lady is cracking up in the bus too, the gentleman is speechless and MamaJumps is blushing so brightly the whole back of the bloodmobile is pink by reflection. one of the best laughs I had on the whole trip

A tunnel. I dream of one. I live in a place that needs a tunnel desperately - the rain sodden, chronically overcast Pacific Northwest. Here were a method of practicing indoors would be a valuable investment... Nope. I have to go to someplace like Nevada or Arizona or SoCal so I can get out of the rain and go indoors to practice... Anyone know how much it would cost me up front to build my own wind tunnel? There's a tunnel just a bit south east of San Francisco talk your Hubby into a long romantic weekend and share an hour in the "wind" tunnel they say about 4 mil to buy a Sky Venture setup. I'm plotting to build one out of things from crackerjack boxes

Don I was there and went out and picked up 1 of the outs Mitigating factors 1. It was the FIRST load for that pilot that day (99% sure of this) 2. He flew the same jump run as the other 2 pilots were flying all day (+/- 1/8 mile) (100% sure of this) 3. Uppers out of the North and Smoking fast (all Day)(100% sure of this) 4. You weren't the only group on that load to land out in fact I think 2 other groups(or possibly 3) landed North of the Airport and 1 group landed east of the Freeway "by a choice like yours." The best way to handle it?? You know from Para gliding that every day is different. I wasn't in your shoes I tend to error on the conservative side. When in Doubt ride the plane down or open high.(esp if you're last out) From mid fall to mid spring we are likely to have a jump run offset to the North, running East to West which puts you about 1 to 1.5 miles North and if the spot goes long you have to be prepared to pull high. Have a contingency plan for this not uncommon situation i.e if your drift isn't what the spot allowed for look down then at your jump buddy and point down and wave off and turn and track so you can pull a bit early with good separation TALK ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY BEFORE HAND!!! On this particular load I'd have to go with the uppers died down significantly which left many people short of the landing area. I think 14 of 21 made it back. You were very heads up and I'm glad you were not hurt jf John Fosgate "In the end, its always best to choose the hard right over the easy wrong." LouDiamond MB 4310 www.N3Racing.com

If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream — and not make dreams your master; If you can think — and not make thoughts your aim; If your can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two imposters just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools: If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!" If you can walk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings — nor lose your common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And — which is more — you'll be a Man, my son! My father used to say about me that "you're a great candidate to live at the wrong end of a 40 mile one way road. (being as I lost him less that a week ago that and many other things he said are ringing in my head) I have the ability, and will retire to an out of the way spot that requires NO outside support...someday...
