  1. There's currently between 30-50 New Englad jumpers in FL already or landing there today or tomorrow. We have been going to Lake Wales this time every year for awhile now. Usually a bunch of jumpers get down there in the beginning of the week and hit Z-Hills, and then everyone converges on LW Thursday or Friday for the weekend boogie. I'm stuck in NH this year Just bought a generator. It was -2 degrees here Monday. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  2. I can see the organization's logic in their request (from their point of view), but the only people that it will affect are the good law abding citizens. If this reduction were to actually occur, criminals would continue to have and carry guns, and that puts the now unarmed citizen (aka "the good guys"), at a further diadvantage. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  3. Is Dave impersonating Blakey in that picture? I remember most of those jokes from his rigger course. Dave's a great guy. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  4. Every time I get bored or tired at work, I play the demo video on Skyventure's website. It always picks me up at work................ -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  5. True, they will fly differently, but not so much I would think that it would be a drastic difference. Traithalons are one of the more docile canopies on the market in general. Say the same thing about a Stilleto 175 vs a 120 at the same loading and I will agree with you %100. I just don't see a 120 Tri loaded 1:1 as a big issue for light jumper once they (as stated in the first post) go through the downsizing sequence to get there. Should they go to it from 215 on their first licensed jump? Nope. But if in 20-30 downsizing jumps, I don't see it as a problem, as was the original question. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  6. My only reservation about jumping a reserve loaded 2.0 is the increase potential for line twists on opening due to the higher loading. My only cutaway to date is from a spiralling line twist mal that I could not correct, the canopy was loaded 1.9 and it was spiralling FAST. If my reserve spun up like that at that loading, I can't see a clear resolution/correction. Granted F-111 square reserves would probably spiral slower than a HP canopy, but I don't want to be the one to find out that isn't the case. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  7. A side topic also worthy of discussion I think: Most very experienced jumpers that choose to jump a tiny reserve have a "safety skill set" that greatly reduces the chance they will ever end up in that "tight spot" situation. Whether its a higher decision altitude, better spotting or just an over all increase in safe skydiving. You rarely see the uber-experienced jumper landing a tiny reserve in a tight spot becuase they generally don't allow themselves to be put in a position like that to have to cutaway & land in that shoe box backyard. Its usually lower time jumpers that botch something up, either cutaway alti, delay in decision on where to land, bad pattern, that set them in shoe box backyards and pound in. Any thoughts? -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  8. Triathalon's flyng 1:1, are a GREAT canopy to star out with/learn on. You'll put 200+ jumps on it and not be bored with it. I miss my old Traithalon 175 now......... -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  9. I'd land in the pool. Then it's just a "chow". -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  10. Thats a great point. I always thought it would a cool "extra" when demoing a reserve at a boogie or something to have them drop you at 2100ft over a housing development.
  11. My original point was simply this, in the GRAND SCHEME of things, that sticker had/has zero impact on education and society as a whole. Whether it is there or not. It's simply a rediculous waste of time and money for people to have needed to pursue this in the court system. Correct me I'm wrong (and I am sure I will be here in SC......lol) that whole thing in CA? about removing "Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance, again, a total waste of time and money. This country was founded by religous people, and a by product of that there has been (and probably always will be) certain religous undertones in government and the educational system. Is it really that bad, or that wrong? I think not, but again, here in the Land of Misfit Toys, ie SC, people seem more interested in touting their own agendas and philosophies than accepting the fact, that whether "Under God" is in the Pledge, or Creation is even considered a possibility in school, organized religions will continue to play a role in modern society's governmental and educational systems, and that that is ultimately not a terrible thing that needs to be banished. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  12. Touche' By evolved, I was referring to mankind. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  13. So that makes it the only acceptable stance then? The better of two evils? I am not a Creationist, I believe in the theory of Evolution, I just think that (going back to the original post) that wasting tax payer money to remove an implied religious reference is wrong. It's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Side note, I think it's called Pasqual's wager, that clearly shows believing in God is a mathematically sound decision. I'm tired. G'Nite all. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  14. Teach them all I say. Knowledge is power. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  15. Okay, so then, because creationism is based on blind faith, not science, in your view it should not be acknowledged in an educational system. That is your view, correct? Let's see, art cannot be defined by science, let's ban that from school too. (I mean how can we even think about discussing Da Vinci's work in school, we'd have to explain that the Last Supper wasn't what was for dinner the night before). Hmm, poetry comes from the soul, yikes, we better ban that too, science can't prove the soul exists, there for it doesn't. Better pull Joyce Kilmer's poems out of school. UH-OH, science can't explane imagination either, there goes creative writing too. Better yet, we all know that written history is merely subjective opinions of the people writing it, opinions aren't fact, lets can history class too. (Most of it was written by religious people anyways.) Therefore, by deductive reasoning (science at it's best), in the perfect scientific environment, we can teach evolution & algebra. That will make for very well rounded students of the future. We should probably ban recess too, as there is nothing scientific about having fun. It all starts somewhere. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  16. I disagree, this is all about athiest's attempts at scrubbing the country clean of religion. Evolution is no more or less a theory than creation, so why is it not appropriate to teach/educate based on both ideas? -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  17. On a bathroom wall somewhere in Germany there is an inscription reading: "God is Dead - Nietzsche" (then just below it, it reads) "Nietzsche is Dead - God" -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  18. I'm a Christian, and I believe in the Theory of Evolution as well. I was lucky enough to be presented with both "theories", evolution and creation, and was allowed to make the decision for myself. My school didn't make the decision for me. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  19. I don't know about you guys, but I couldn't think of a better use of our underburdened legal system than to pontificate on the educational origins of mankind from a legal stand point. Criminals tie up too much court time and judical costs anyways. If I was a resident of Georgia and my tax dollars paid for this abuse of the legal system, I'd be outraged. Regarding the facts of evolutions, I thought there was always a gap in the evolution chain (the missing link) that prevented science from confirming the thoery of evolution as fact. Forget that the vast majority of the earth's evolved inhabitants are religious in some capacity and that all religions have some form of divine creation as a basis for thier faith. Lets focus on the Georgian athiest community, they have always been under represented anyways, right? Question, if the athiest's had their way, and this country's political, educational & judicial systems were stripped bare of any religious symbolism or structure, would any of you still want to live here? Personally, I'd move to Ireland. "God is a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh" - Voltaire -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  20. I talled my log book and was surpirsed to see I made only 18 fun jumps this season. 330 tandems, but only 18 fun jumps. (New Years resolution for 2005 = MAKE MORE FUN JUMPS) -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  21. Rainy Satirday afternoons were made for either Crimson Tide or Hunt For The Red October. I own them both, but if I see them on TV I have to watch them. Another one, not on as much any more is Jaws. Who can forget: "Here lies the fire Mary Lee, died at the age of 103, for 15 years she kept her virginity, not a bad record for this vicinity." -- My other ride is a RESERVE.

  23. I'll agree there exists terrible skydivers with 1000s of jumps, and that simply having alot of jumps does not make someone a safe skydiver. What jump #s do signify though, for most jumpers (there are of course exceptions to everything I understand), is that there exists a better competence and understanding of ones limits the more jumps that we make. The difference? A skydiver that sucks at 1000 jumps probably knows he sucks and accomidates for the lack of ability with increased common sense, where as a 100 jump jumper that sucks, mostlikely has no perception of thier lack of competency. Simply put the more jumps you make, the better understanding you have of your limits and abilities, which allows you to make more effective decisions on things like canopy choice or camera flying. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  24. "Jump Numbers do not say a thing!" I disagree. Jump #s indicate both a survival of X number of jumps and more importantly the inplied additional knowdledge and experience that each successful skydive provides. Saying someone with 300 jumps can't get stable, versus a 140 jumper that can, is completely arbitrary to your perception/opinion. Who's to say that on the other 299 jumps there was not a vast increase in jump performance. Is anyone not prone to a bad jump, unreflective of their relative skill level? Or, could the 140 jump jumper simply have been lucky on that one? I don't know, point is you don't either, you can't assess someone's ability and conpetency in this sport by observing a single jump. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
  25. Thank you. The other version of that concept I came up with over the last few years through personal observation is this: The only thing that will stop the stupid is the ground. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.
