How long till you started flying off the net on your head?
punkd replied to Emmie's topic in Wind Tunnels
Took me about 2 hours to get off the net with no previous HD experience (I think that might have actually helped having no bad habits) I have just over 6 hours most of that sitflying.. I probably tried the front flip to HD transition at least 100 times before it finally just clicked. I still don't have the most stable base yet but im working on range of motion and some turns. I think ill need another few hours just to become comfortable with a nice neutral relaxed position. Heres where im at after 2h40m of HD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4N1HJj1Vkg nothing spectacular..its gonna take a while to learn.. -
This is just a temporary set back.

You need to step it down from 37mm to 30mm. It comes with the lens. I use this setup, it's a very wide angle lens and you have to remove the sunshade to avoid any vignetting.

I played with mine for about 30 seconds, then also just ripped it off. Meh.. I love the looks I got from my roommate when I take a brand new camera out of the wrapping and first thing I do is go for my tool box. 2 minutes later the camera is in pieces to remove the hand strap then im ripping parts off of it.

Tunnel chambers with 1 exit versus 2 exits -- Comments?
punkd replied to mdrejhon's topic in Wind Tunnels
Having flown in Montreal and Paraclete XP (both 1 door) and the 2 door configuration at New Hampshire. I must say that the 2 door is much more noticeable in terms of turbulence around the door. I think I've fell out of the exit door more times than I've entered that tunnel. -
self-induced line twists at low wing loadings?
punkd replied to pchapman's topic in Safety and Training
I managed to do this on a Sabre 170 at roughly 1:1.. I think I had maybe 30-40 jumps at the time. Only put me into a half line twist but scared me enough that I don't snap any spiral turns anymore. -
Adam, Depending on where or who your buying the rig from, consider a wire transfer. When I bought my first rig thats what I did. The fee's were fairly nominal.. I think $30-40ish. Just beware that there are less safety measures in place as say paypal or your credit cards fraud protection. Anyways, thats what worked for me.. because I ran into the same problem you did. -Jim

Just got mine, havn't got a chance to jump it yet. As for construction its a very well made suit by the looks of it so far.. all the colour's and design is correct. I tried it on and no issues with the fit so far. It seems a little baggy in the legs but I'll need to jump it first to see if that works for or against me.

15 mins belly flying 15 mins back flying 2 1/2 hours sit flying and transitions
-
Just keep running. Shitty advice I know but how else do you get it done. Make sure you taper your training down a week or so before the event, keep your runs short.. 5k-ish. What kind of time are you currently running per KM? try and find a pace that you can keep up and figure out what your 21k time will be. Follow the pace bunnies if you have trouble pacing yourself.

That's funny, When I was looking for my first rig a while back they were all for guys like 6'2 and above or 5'4 and below. (im 5'10) Just be patient and keep checking you will find something that you like that fits you.

Adam, depending on what you want to work on.. (I'm guessing back/head up) it shouldn't take you long to get there. In NH they made me do 1 min of belly flying to show stability before going straight to back flying. Did about 6 mins of backflying, then 1-2 mins of walking. After that the rest of my hour was all sit flying. The progression is fairly straight forward, if you want to maximize it hire yourself a coach. --Jim

Not sure for complete but some containers to check out could be Mirage or Wings.. I believe they both still offer 40% off for active duty military.

Skyventure tunnels follow a flying progression. http://tunnelflight.com/pages/flyers/flyerRatings.php You have to show them that you can belly fly, backfly and 'walk' before they will let you fly head up. Never been to AZ but the tunnel I fly in they were mostly interested that you could show control in moving 6 directions.. up/down side to side, forward/backwards. I was sit flying in about 15 mins and i'm nothing special, my sit was actually better than my backflying. so its possible but you probably wont get much time trying with only 20 mins. my first hour in the tunnel learning to sit. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=tScSveKzJ90

Have you considered an audible as a 2nd alti? Personally I wear a digital on my hand and have an audible. I find I use the audible more for being under canopy than the digital. It will beep at preset altitudes (ex. 1000ft - 600ft - 300ft) Think of those numbers as what ever you use to setup your landing pattern.. (downwind, base, final) Obviously use your eyes more than relying on hardware but just listening for a beep could help you spend more time scanning for traffic .. etc..

The box for the HC5/7/9 is fairly tight with my HC5 and Cameye in there. That plug for the hypeye looks alot bigger. You might have to do some mods to make it fit. The pic below will show you the smaller cameye plug in my HC5 and how little play there is with it.

http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/casios-ex-fs10-and-ex-fc100-compacts-burst-faster-than-your-dsl/ Anybody heard much about these yet? obviously the first thing I notice is the lack of threads for a lens. It will also probably need some mods for a remote shutter switch. I can't see this being used much for tandems but because of the small size I could see fun jumpers taking advantage of 30FPS at 6MP.

I'm wondering if the word "capsized" could be replaced with something similar to "torpedoed" or "blown the hell up" :) Stupid pirates...

Surprisingly quite a bit of stoppages are caused by the operator and not the weapon. Not picking up a round or double feeds can easily be caused by riding the action forward. Or people still tend to hit the bolt catch on rifles when changing mags versus racking the weapon.
-
We call this a "Press Check". The name comes from when you bring the action back a bit and press on a shotgun shell to make sure its not an empty round you just haven't ejected yet. You don't want to be walking around with a "dead mans gun". This applies for most weapons however you just don't "press" on the round you visually inspect that the bolt has picked up and chambered a round. If someones shooting at you the last thing you want is to be pissing around tap+racking stoppages. Overall I thought the movie was pretty well done. Clint Eastwood can still look badass even with a finger gun.
