  1. OK, maybe I didnt word that right. I see what your saying about the tandems, maybe its not such a good idea re the butt slides. But at our DZ they recommend people do a tandem or two before AFF, mainly for the sensory overload bit, so the landings may not be included in the thought process!.... I totally agree on PLF, I did firstly faceplants and then a few PLFs I didnt say in 10 jumps I perfected stand up landings?! I meant it took me 10 jumps to stop face planting. After that it was hit and miss for another maybe 20 jumps or so but they were much softer as I had learnt not to flare to high.. and since then (250 plus jumps) Ive stood the vast majority up, apart from a couple of fast downwinders that were unplanned.. But your advice is good...mine was ill thought out
  2. Hi, Some good advice there! I would also suggest the following as a 'backup' measure. Wear a decent knee and ankle support on your affected leg, just until you get the hang of stand up landings. I really whacked it in on my first jump due to not flaring (at all) and twisted my ankle a bit. It was 4 weeks till I could jump again! And it took me about 10 jumps to get proficient and have gentle touchdowns. Having said that, from jump 2 onwards, none of them was overly hard, just not very pretty on the odd occasion! Also, if you can afford it , it may be worth doing a few more tandems just to get a solid idea of what height 10-15 feet looks like when coming into land. Ask your instructors on any of this though as they will be the best ones to advise you. Good luck!
  3. Congrats on your first jump! The addiction may have got you.... prepare to think of the skies at most opportunities when you are awake...reliving the experience. And wanting to go back there
  4. Well 26,000 jumps will tend to do that! I saw that as well!! Nice number!
  5. What's the story on that one? Good question, but I cant imagine it was injury free... heres the video
  6. I can see how this went down...and I bet the terrorists werent 'that well trained' India and efficient security dont go together well. Their 'special forces' still ride around in rice carts ffs Had the first hotel been hit in London or NY, the whole bunch of them would have been dead within a short time. Nobody even fired at 3 of them massacring unarmed people in the train station??? talk about soft targets
  7. Very good point! Desperate times call for desperate measures!
  8. Link has broken Here is a different one http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JD1FArI0bIU
  9. True, wasnt it ascertained that this is what most likely caused the death of the AFFi 'Shindig' at Elsinore not so long ago? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3246379; Ive made a mental note never to loosen the chest strap b4 control check, and also not loosen it too much in the event of an unplanned low emergency
  10. Great post rushmc. I agree totally The world has gone a bit mad
  11. Ive never tipped a tunnel instructor.... hell. it costs enough anyway But Im a tightwad
  12. Good work!! The rocking could also be you were tense maybe?
  13. So 208lbs or 94kg all up plus the weight of the rig? I make that Wl of .71 on a 320 factoring in 10kg for rig weight or .81 on a 288sq ft
  14. Sorry to hear of your loss Blue Skies David This is another thread that has been started in his memory, maybe the moderators can merge them>? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3388802;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
  15. it is mainly CReW guys who occasionally use a tertiary .. based on personal preference. There are upsides and downsides to using a tertiary I would imagine. -An upside is its a '3rd chance' and the downsides are: -If you need to go to a tertiary you are already having a very very very bad day -It adds a lot more weight and clutter to the individuals front...where the reserve and cutaway pads/handles are normally located for the back mounted container. Having said that, if I ever got into CReW in the future I would strongly consider using a tertiary for more risky stuff.
  16. Well, someone up-thread said that this student decided that maybe skydiving wasn't for them. So, this may be OBE, but why wouldn't you let her come back? She certainly isn't the first student ever to hang onto a hand-deployed pilot chute and likely won't be the last. True. But if she can do that after a full AFF ground school, how on earth would she carry out her EPs on jump 2 if the need arose?
  17. OBL is clearly dead and his corpse scattered among the afghanistan wastelands nothing that GB does or has done would surprise me. His incompetence is unparalleled IMO
  18. Thanks could never figure that out on here All you need to do, is look under the posting box where you type the text. And you will see some buttons. Click the URL button and you get this {url} except it will have [ ] instead of { } now put your url in the middle of them and then click the URL button again {/url} That will make your URL clicky. Same goes for using the QUOTE button - to quote another users phrase or statement etc do the same as above but use the Quote button before and after the text
  19. Wow! That is truly unbelievable. The student has a terrible 'arch' or lack of and seems to be in dreamland after the first say 5k altitude awareness wise. The instructor didnt look like he had a cyprus? or a two out (if he did deploy). It looked like a main canopy he landed on? I dont know why but I can only think this is in Russia (from what people I know and trust have told me about SOME (not all) Russian DZs
  20. Wow!!! Did he/you land it as well as the Ti in this video? Cmmon...be honest
