  1. I don't swoop or base jump. In my opinion, swooping is very much like base jumping. A little more exciting and thrilling when it works correctly. Quite dangerous if it is not timed correctly. Dano
  2. Blue Skies Debbie...... Dano
  3. As was previously said, first focus on your eyes and learn to be where you need to be with your brain. With your jump numbers, a working analog altimeter will teach you that skill. Dano
  4. Z-Hills is open every day in the winter. It's all dependent on what you want to do? Jump by yourself, free fly by yourself, organized relative work? Got to know what YOU want to do before a serious recommendation can be made. Dano
  5. What were you told to do if entering a cloud? Dano
  6. Sort of gotten off topic - Read "The Walmart Effect" to learn the cause and effect of the"problem." It is us! Dano
  7. I've been on big-ways since 1999 (started on the 100-way speed star event at Z-Hills) and have NEVER heard anyone even discuss a plan if you enter a cloud. Mayb I just missed it, but after at least 50+ big-ways I don't recall it ever being mentioned. Dano
  8. Enjoy the ride... I did an Iron Butt in FL several months ago of 1,000 miles in less than 24 hours. My time was 12 1/2 hours and i guess that did speed a little! That included 9 stops for gas, rest and food. Your ride will be quite a bit more so I hope you are prepared.. Take a scheduled break at each stop and combine them. Don't wait to "crash" or you will actually sleep more than if you did a little nap from time to time. Read up on the Iron Butt web site for lots of good tips. These guys really know how to do it. Good luck and be safe.... Dano
  9. You are right pretty close about the weather... From October through April is definitely the best time of the year down here. I've been here since the mid 70's and from June through September there are a lot of better places to be. Hurricanes, tropical storms, mosquitos, love bugs and cock roaches.... It just doesn't get any better... Dano
  10. Come to Z-Hills.... You will love it and there are organizers who will get you on loads, if that is what you want to do. You can always jump solo too. There is tent space and showers and always a great time.. Lots of other DZ's in the state and they all have their personality. Get to know them all....... Dano
  11. March weather in Florida is generally great. What type of skydiving are you planning to do? Unless you are going to be moving around in Florida, check with the different DZ's to see what is going on before you finalize your plans. Some DZ's are more noted for fun jumpers, i.e., Z-Hills, all the time as opposed to teams. Dano
  12. How can you possible have a productive debate about religion or the lack of? What could people who believe in something possible use as credible reference material? Dano
  13. Here we go again.... Belief vs. logic..... It will never be decided by bible quotes and pure logic. The bible quoters think that their bible is a reference book and those using logic are talking to themselves. You either believe or you don't. Debate is futile. Dano
  14. ANYTHING that deviates from the plan will be unexpected. You have to do the best that you can in the circumstances and if you choose to be a lone ranger with your own plan, how are you going to transmit that to the other 50+ in your formation? My purpose in starting this thread was to generate conversation about something that doesn't happen often, but does occur. I wish it were discussed more often on those cloudy days when we do jump. Just in case....... Be careful when you make up a plan that is not what everyone else discussed. Dano
  15. I watched a guy do this once and the tether broke about the time he got line streatch... Blew him out of the tunnel ( it was outside) and about killed him as he landed on an oil tank. Wasn't very pretty! Dano
  16. So they get a pass to skip their turn in traffic because they got 2 wheels instead of 4? Umm... Can you not see that smaller vehicles (ie motorcycles) actually REDUCE traffic congestion?? . +1 Dano
  17. Israel - All others have been through war or takeover. Read the book of Joshua. 1948 ! UN Charter... agreement. Dano
  18. Sounds like a serious anger problem... Lighten up a little. You really want someone hurt? Dano
  19. Depends what you are wanting to do... Try out Z-Hills... A great time of the year for Florida. Dano
  20. Nice looking mirrors... Going to have to order a set. tanks.... Now it's off to the shark tank...... Dano
  21. It's obviously your call, and I don't live where you live, but, if you think one is more prone to accident then the other, I think you are fooling yourself. I put about as many miles on the motorbike as the bike each year (about 4 to 5000) and I'd say I'd have just as many close calls with either. And most of these miles are commuting (well, all of the motorbike's are, and about 1/2 the bike miles). They are both dangerous and a high risk, but I feel safer on my motorcycle. I rarely ride without the proper gear and that includes a much better helmet, pants, gloves and jacket. On my bicycle, riding with traffic, I just feel too venerable and unaware of what is behind me. It's the law around here to ride with traffic, but that doesn't feel as safe. Could easily be perception though. I'm always open to learning and different opinions. I generally ride about 7-10,000 miles a year and have been very lucky to have never been in an accident. I have avoided quite a few though! Dano

  23. Safest way to ride a bicycle is just like a motorcycle and that is to assume that people will pull out in front of you at all intersections. They see you, but they do not take action because of the time delay in seeing and recognizing. That is the reality of it and it's not going to change. Know that it's going to happen and pretend that you are invisible. It's the only safe way to ride a bike. I ride a motorcycle all the time, but have give up on the bicycle on public roads. Too many accidents and for me, it's just not worth the risk. Dano
  24. So what piece of land, that is now occupied, was ever acquired lawfully? I can only think of one! Dano
  25. Don't know what FIFU means, but I think that everything in RED should be a license requirement. They can and do happen and skydivers should not be afraid of them. In particular, a downwind landing. People have died because they were afraid to make a downwind landing. FIFY What "other" requirements for a D license other than night jumps (ritten exam aside)? Adding a few requirements might be a good thing. Dano
