Skyhook or RSL is not for that 99% of the time! It's for that 1% of the time..... Dano

POPS Record Attempt at Skydive AZ, Dec 05-09, 2012
danornan replied to Zymurdoo's topic in Relative Work
It is awesome to be able to watch the videos from afar and cheer on the other team. I know that there are some who are disappointed that their record might only stand for a few weeks, but I sincerely hope the AZ team beats our record 120-way this weekend. That means that next year we have a larger formation to gun for. Watching in High Definition is great. Dano -
It is "Relative" work, all the way down to the ground. Booties should not make a difference on an 8-way or 16-way. Dano

Price drops are only until the other party is out of business. Then they tend to go back up. Dano

Personally, I'd be concerned about jumping out of the cheapest airplane. I know that you have a parachute on your back, but you still have to get out! Dano

Lots of really good anecdotal information here ! Strange coming from skydivers who are generally more intelligent.... Dano

I am very happy for both of you. I know it's going to be a beautiful day and a wonderful wedding. Congratulations!!! Dano

That explains what i saw you do today! ;-0 Dano

Kinda like swooping, what's the use? Dano

Not all the time..... But most of the time... Someone was coming at me in the landing pattern, on my final and was not looking, coming in downwind and veering to my right. Had I turned to my right, we would have collided. Dano
-
Wind direction is fine if you are the only one landing. If not, the best direction to land might not be directly into the wind. I have watched people die chasing a wind sock or hooking it so as to land directly into the wind! Be predictable and land the way that everyone else is landing, hopefully in the pattern. Wind direction is only a guide and not an absolute. Dano

As others have said: Talk to your instructor and don't use this forum to make any flying/landing decision this early in your learning process. Dano

Sure, I do it all the time and as soon as you leave the airplane, you don't even feel them! :-) Sometimes mix it up and wear some of the lead in a vest. Dano
-
That is what I use and I just wear it up to the TSA inspection when I fly. TSA generally asks if I'm going diving. Dano

Pilot might not be too happy with the unexpected weight loss! Dano

Shoukd I be weary of buying gear online here?
danornan replied to Lindenwood's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
With 18 jumps, do not buy anything without going through your instructor or local rigger for help and advise. You just don't have the experience yet to know what you don't know or what questions to ask. There is lots of good used gear on this forum and a lot of good advise above. Dano -
Nothing unexpected happened. If he didn't want his name out, it would not have happened. The SEAL had 100% control. No one put a gun to his head and forced him to write the book. It was all planed. Dano

Why does customer service in skydiving suck?
danornan replied to Titanman2789's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Depends a lot on your expectation. I've been in the sport since the mid 80's and feel like I've had excellent service from all that I've had dealings with. It is a very tiny sport (small customer base) compared to many, with very small profit margins and seems like many customers have very large egos. A difficult mix at best. Look at your situation and determine if you really could do it better for the money and if so, have at it. I'm reminded of the joke in skydiving on how to make a million dollars and the answer is something like, start with 10 million. Dano -
So what is the safest way to answer your door at 1:30 in the morning? I too would probably be armed at that hour, in my home. Seems like the LEO 's could have found a safer way for all to check on the owner of the bike! Dano

OK - 2/16 are not accurate. Really splitting hairs! What about the other photo ID requirements? Voting not important enough? Simply, it is in the "crying liberals" best interest to allow anyone to vote because they generally vote for the people offering them, "free ice cream." The person who says that "someone" will have to pay for it, doesn't get their vote! Being identified as a citizen of the US is not difficult, if you are here legally. Some people are actually proud of that fact. The chart was an example and as happens so many times on this forum, people nit pick and ignore the main issue. Dano

Ironic that this came to me today..... Dano

You must show a picture ID to get on an airplane, what is so wrong about an ID to vote and possible change the government? Dano
