Appears Jerry and Georger (the other Jerry) have other things to do. Good for them. In the mean time I am chomping away at the bit waiting for information. It will be next wk before we can check this thing out we are working on. Does anyone have a list of the multiple suspects the FBI has had over the yrs. Even one they ruled out. None of us knew about this Burnworth - so how many more are there out there that the FBI or others thought might be good suspects. 1. Coffelt aka Ross 2. McCoy 3. Burnworth 4. Weber aka Collins 5. Gossett 6. Christiansen 7. Bradon (there were of these so we need first names also 8. Guru (well they did question him). 9. Dan Cooper - TX 10. Suspect present by attorney out of Maine - name never disclosed. We need complete names and vital statists - age, birthplace, schooling, experience, and where they were in 1971...if known and picture if available. Not sure anyone has ever made a detailed list of all suspects over the past 38 yrs...I am curious just how many serious suspects there have been or rumored to have been. I read the interview with Scott Butki and if you guys think I am looney - check out Blevins. 1. Blevins talks about this guy Watson, but never distinguishes if that is his real name of the fictious name assigned. 2. Now we got Christiansen wearing a toupee - but in 1971 the toupee available unless it had bangs was VERY OBVIOUS. 3. The statue of Limitations has expired???? Blevins can write anyting he wants, but one has to wonder if he can read. 4. This Watson claims he wasn't good friends with Christiansen and Blevins claims Christiansen was the best man for Watson in 1968. 5. Second Edition! - what the (I won't say it) but I sure was thinking it. 6. He mailed a copy of the book with large pictures of Christiansen....if he thinks he has Tina's address - he is mistaken and even I would never have done that (boy, did I think about it - but used better judgement than to impose pics on someone who did not grant permission). 7. He even threw in the Dan Cooper Comic - and all of you know that idea was born on this thread. Forgot who gave birth to that one - I think Snowmman did. 8. Shaffners hand shakes - did he interview her? I know others who did interview her and her hand did not shake. 9. Blevins knocks Galen Cook regarding the Janet article, but Blevins is off base on so many of the factual things - it is absurd. 10. Blevins trys to cover his ass - by including a little tidbit fed to him by a second party, but he even got that wrong. (SAVE that one for LATER). Lesson on number 10 - Know your enemies. Absolutely amazing. I only read a portion of the Blevins book and then decided I didn't want my mind poisoned (no the truth is I couldn't down load but 38 pages of it). Sluggo - I have something VERY interesting to tell you - it did not seem important until I read Blevins story - This is something we have proof of and picture of but did not understand the significance of it. (One of my guys found this). I don't have the information in front of me and I am sure he would not want me to make it public...he spent a lot of money and time trying to chase it down - but, it was all a matter of having the right names to use. You will find this interesting. I have to check with my guy to see if he wants to share this but I am sure he will not want to go public with it .... but what I found odd was Blevins mention of this particular subject and I had NOT read that until just now. I am getting ready to put a phone call into my guy and see what he thinks. I am sure he would rather talk by phone rather than thru an email (because he spent lots of money chasing this one particular thing). He is going to have to be assured by you to keep it confidential. I have often wonder if Sluggo remembers this post he post made on a December so long ago. I have also wondered how this Greg Larson re-acted when he got phone calls out of the blue. I knew the name was NOT correct and have waited a long time for someone to make a retraction. But it never happened. I know his name and where the divorce records were located - I even told Galen Cook, but not you guys. Ask Galen, he will back me up on this one. Until someone located me through this or another forum. I had no concrete knowledge of the story behind the TIE. Duane stopped me from sorting out the ties to get rid of the ones no longer in style. He had lots of ties. He simply told me he would go though them later. This was after he had gone out on disability and no longer need so many ties taking up space. He remarked one of them was a very special and belonged to a famous person. I did not pay it any attention and do not remember what if any he gave as an excuse for his having such a tie. I was working 24/7 during those last yrs - between my business, cooking up meals for him to have when I wasn't there and getting the housekeeping and laundry done...and chauffeuring him to and from diaylsis and Dr.s appointments. After he die I just got rid of them all. I do remember if a clip-on was among them. Someone who knew Duane very well contacted me. I can and will never reveal who this person was without his written consent. This person contacted me because he was angry - but, I was NOT the person who he thought I was. The phone call turned out to be very informative with him telling me things about Duane I was unaware of. One of these things was the TIE story. It was mentioned only vaguely and I could hardly refrain from asking him more at that time...I just let him talk and get the anger out of his system. I sensed he was hurting and needed to air his feelings. It was difficult for me to hold back, but later I would contact him and ask for more information about this "tie". What I was told: 1.The tie supposedly belonged to Bobby Kennedy. 2. The tie was a subject of conversations many times over the yrs. 3. The tie was taken from a Hotel in Jefferson (a tall glass building) where Kennedy was staying during a crucial time. 4. This time was right after Weber was released from Jefferson and was working in the area. Below are things to think about: 1. The time co-incides with Bobby Kennedy making with his speech in or around the Jefferson area and the MLK assassination. 2. The FBI has produced NO evidence that proves the tie in evidence was the same time taken off of the plane in 1971. 3. NO one knows if this is the actual Tie that Cooper was wearing. NO picture of the tie or tie clasp was made available to the public until the last 2 or 3 yrs. Ask yourself WHY? (after 36 yrs a tie is just a tie). 4. What else could have been in that bag? A note or a treasure or something he might have needed in the jump or was it just candy bars? (Clarks or Butterfingers). 5. The answers are endess. Why leave behind a tie and clasp and leave nothing else. When he went to the bathroom (if this really happened) did he tear up the bag or burn the bag and then flush what was left. 6. Did the tie found actually belong to Cooper - OR was it neatly folded in a sandwich bag inside of that paper bag.....so he could carry it on and remember to leave it. Even back then - one wanted to leave NO evidence and Cooper left none. 7. Has the FBI ever run the DNA samples taken from the tie against members of the Kennedy family? 8. Bobby had many children and he did wear cheap ties given to him as gifts by his children and he did wear clip-ons when he was speaking from the back of wagon. 9. Bobby Kennedy wearing a clip on was for security reasons - did anyone ever see the clips where the public was grabbing at him - he lost lots of cuff links in that manner. I have seen clips where his body guard had to actually hold Bobby at the waist football style to prevent him from being pulled off the wagon.

Around 1982 Duane told me he had to go to Memphis and asked me if I would like to keep him company. Beleive it or Not that is how he said it. While in Memphis he pointed out places - the motel, a corner which had been change as there used to be shrubs there, a balcony you could see from the 2 story motel we stayed in - and mentioned a man who used to live there. In front of the motel facing the street and to our left he said that just down that street was cafe (don't remember the word he used, as tonight I had to take pain killers which I usually refuse to take). He mentioned that over the cafe was rooms and I got the impression he worked there - maybe washed dishes as he mentioned knowing the owner. I don't remember where we ate that night or what else we did on that night - and we probably didn't get there until late afternoon...or almost dark. At that time we were driving a Mercury Marquis - maroon. The next morning he loaded our luggage and then hands me the KEY's to the Car (that was the first time I had ever been in possession of keys to HIS car). When he hands them to me - he says "I have to go down the street - if I am not back in 45 minutes take the car and go back to Atlanta - I will find you." Then he just walked out the door before I could even open my mouth in protest. I didn't have a clue what was going on or what was happening and I still don't know exactly what he did in Memphis during that trip. I kept watching from the direction he had walked in and when he came back he was putting something in the trunk. He came up to the room and said "Let's go". I don't even remember if he took time to go to the bathroom. His opening the trunk before he came upstairs meant that he had one set of keys and had given me the spare. I never knew what he did that morning, but a few months later we bought a Village Station Wagon - and for the first time a rifle entered our home - a Remington 30 something. He told me he had bought it at a flea market and showed me where it used to have a scope on it. While we were in Memphis he mention that he and his ex-wife had hid something behind a medicine chest in a room one time. They removed the chest and place items down between the wall..he didn't tell me what or when or why. But this comment and the rifle arriving in our home when he no longer had a trunk to keep it in - is why I think Duane went to Memphis to retrieve a rifle. I had NO reason to remember what kind of rifle killed MLK. I had NO reason to believe the rifle in our home was connect in any way with Memphis, until 1988. In 1988 we had just moved to Florida and he put the gun in the coat closet. We had not finished unpacking and had to go to Tallahassee and when we returned our home had been robbed. When we walked into the house - I said we have been robbed - he turned around and went right to the closet and he said - "Oh, Damn they got the rifle". Because so many other things had been taken - and the rifle was the only thing he was upset about...it made me curious about the rifle because he had not used it and was not a hunter. In recounting this trip I just remembered something else. Duane and I went to Tallahassee, but I don't remember why - I am drawing a blank - I didn't have an account in Tallahassee. We went over with the Travel Trailer and stayed at a camp ground - but I do not remember why. He did leave me alone part of the next day - but why? Just remembering this - it makes his trip to Tallahassee in 1990 all that more of a mystery - the one where he left his friend in charge of the market while he got on a plane and left and did not get back until Sat. This meant Jim had the Market on Thursday and Friday all by himself.He had told Jim he would be back by Noon on Friday. I am using my time on the thread only to recount things I have said that are triggered by posts made on the forum but will be address no one person. In doing so I remembered a detail I had NOT remembered before. I do not know where the rifle came from - but this is an accounting of the rifle that appeared in our home in Virgina Beach, Va. The circumstance of HOW I think that rife came to be and when it disappeared. I even know the name of the man who stole the rifle - and other thing. I tried to chase this criminal down myself only to be told he was a dangerous man and I needed to stay out of that neigborhood. I also chased this man on Nine mile road in Pensacola at a very fast rate of speed - where the Hell is a cop when you need him. I cannot reveal this man's name on a public forum and I saw his mug in the local papers after I married my last husband. I then read he had been encarcerated and wanted to talk to him I did not pursue this at that time due to circumstances regarding my husband's health. Just take the story for what it is worth - I do not know that Duane possessed a rifle involved with the MLK assasination, but if any other woman had been married to a man who she later found was in 5 prisons covering a 17 yr period of his life prior to her marriage to the joker - would she not have analyzed everything that happened during a 17 yr marriage...it is only natural. This is a reply made to Georger last yr. by 377 Thank you for that post. The man who Jerry claimed made the statement - became very angry about Jerry's claim because it did not happen. The friend knew I did NOT want to go public because of the harm it would cause. Why did I contact the FBI in 1996 and not go public until June of 2000? 377 is aware of the toll Cooper has taken on my life, but it was a decision I made. I assure all of you that I am not a liar, nor story teller, nor writer of fiction - just a woman trying to tell what should have been told yrs ago. Putting together the past of Duane Weber has been difficult and it was a giant puzzle. The FBI was of NO value regarding his past, but they could have made it less complicated by providing some simple SS information. One has to ask this question of others and themselves. Why spend so much money trying to disprove the claim of this woman - when it would have been easier to have provided her with the information she requested...information they have access to? If there was NOTHING to hide - why not? I fear my time on this thread is coming to an end and found it necessary to make the 2 prior posts. Please note that I did NOT say Weber was any of the individuals mentioned, only that he had a "relationship" with one of the Players. Do remember this - Jo Weber is NOT a liar, nor a teller of stories, nor a writer of any sort - just one woman who chose to stand-up against the ODDs and to fight for what she believed in regardless of the emotional and physical costs...and believe me they have been costly... Who is Jim Braden? Who was Eugene Hale Brading? What happened to Mr. Braden and where was he on Nov. 24 1971. Was there EVER a picture of this Mr. Braden or Brading? Where was he from and what was his background. Who was James or Joe Dolan? What was Mr. James or Joe Dolan's background. Find pictures of these guys? Find backgrounds of these guys? View a clip from the last released Kennedy film - one that had not been released until just about 4 yrs ago and then it quickly disappeared from site. Did anyone make a DVD or VHS tape of the Kennedy clip introduced only a very few yrs ago? If so don't tell anyone because it will go Poof! Was the man in that clip Braden, Brading or Dolan - is that why the clip went Poof! Did the clip show a man near the Dal-Tex Building? When that man was questioned he was released and the only ID he had was a credit card (duh)! Why am I doing this? Well, everyone thinks I am delusional so I just as well make it certifiable. I have walked away from this train of thought over and over only to get pulled right back into it. Only this time I have much more than I did before - such as a young man giving me a description of an individual which matched the description of a player in the Kennedy saga...it was a description with other details and there was no denying which Kennedy player it was. Supposedly the FBI is aware that John Collins spent some time in Chicago and it was strange the FBI never let me have the Jefferson file - just what is available on-line. John Collins spent a lot of time in solitare - during his "stay" in Jefferson, yet they commuted his sentence in just a few months? John Collins couldn't be in Jefferson and also at a WA function with his wife? Why did the FBI go looking for John Collins after he was released from Jefferson? What was so important they went all the way to Boulder, Co. to find him. How did he get away and why did he go to N.O. and he was Duane Weber again. Weber/Collins is in N.O. and he is on the run, but he is working for an insurance company with its H.O. in Texas? How the H--- did he get the insurance license under Weber - a known excon. He also supposedly had a license under Collins in Ks and Mo. Duane ends up in Mobil and Atlanta working for the same Company, but we will add a couple of others - one being an old JMWave Company with Mafia connections. He was working in Atlanta and Columbia in 1969, 1970 and 1971. He also worked for a private club in Atlanta called the Midnight Sun even when he was selling insurance. Worked two SS's at one time. Who was Duane's old friend Anderson - wasn't he the writer Duane knew from SLC. Oh! I don't want to forget the photographer - he was a good friend of Anderson's and mentor.

By the time I do what I have to do - cook, eat, read the newspaper and do my puzzles and perhaps a little laundry - I have little time on my hands. Todays paper had something I want to share - because it made me think of others who finally got it right. An ARTICLE by Linda Himelstein: Titled: Judging the Value of Redemption Below is just a summary of her story so I hope she is not offended by this. This was a story about a Boston juvenile court lawyer by the name of Rick Dyer age 58. Nearly 50 yrs ago Dyer was a glue sniffing kid and his raps sheet covered more than 10 yrs of felony convictions to grand larcency. Today he is a respected member of the bar in Boston. Sober and straight for 30 yrs. This attorney turned his life around because there was a judge named Charles "Chick" Artesani who never gave up on him and repeatedly sentenced Dyer to prison, but drug treatment and psychological assistance over jail whenever it was an option. This judge helped Dyer get into law school in 1980 and win Dukakis'pardon. Influential Bostonians are requesting Dyer be consider for an appointment as a judge. Dyer was given a FULL pardon in 1983. 65% of the U.S. prison population is drug related. This attorney has been there and still bears the scars on his arms from yrs of needle use. He seems to have dedicated himself to helping young men like himself. I know how I feel about this lawyer becoming a judge - but, I want to know how others feel about it. My opinion is that he needs to stay a lawyer and decline if appointed this judgeship. My reasoning being - I believe he can do MORE good where he is. As a judge - he will only be facilitating the system and not have the first hand information to help these young offenders as he does now. This is OFF subject, but not really from my point of view. Duane although Not a drug user changed his life - and others are doing the same. I am afraid this brilliant lawyer who should be applauded for his accomplishment - will be less effective as a judge in the goals he has set for himself...and cause himself stress in doing so. I sure wish someone would make that information available here so I could see what you guys are talking about. Two women for the Senior center jumped a few weeks ago (Emerald Coast Skydivers). Both in their 70's, but I would be terrified with my bones and overall health. None of my friends or family would ever talk about my heath with Jerry or others...sure would appreciate it if he would name the individuals. I am one of those non-jumpers but my interest involves a jumping incident and why I came to DZ for help...and I have gotten a lot of if - and appreciate the opportunities this forum has provided. I remain steadfast in my belief that Duane Weber was Cooper in the face of NEW things made available through readers of this forum and those this forum has put me in touch with. We have agreed and disagreed, but in general everyone is considerate of the other parties opinions. Those are the ones who make this deserving of History and Trivia. There is no place in this thread for berating, name calling and "junk" for the lack of a better name which only belittles all of the hard work put into this by people who would really like to solve the case. That might be a little difficult without your help... Are you just referring to the forum or to the Cooper case since 1971? This could turn out to be a useful thing if it encompasses the 39 yr history of the case. Would test a lot of individuals abilities to recall actual facts and names and times and places. Those who hide behind assumed names - you are the only one with access to that one. One would have to start with a yr. 1971 - Ralph Himmelsbach FBI agent in charge 1971 - list the passengers 1971 - list the crew 1971 - list all known characters such as ticket agent and others. 1972 - the first suspect Coffelt with is legal name and aliases and names of writters an were these article appeared 1972 - commentators and other known names of individuals withing the realm of Coffelt (except the man who has extensive research on Coffelt who has never wanted to be Identified - in his mid 80's he still quietly works away at this old case, but without the media exchange). But at his age is too set and not flexible in his thinking. 1971 and 1972 - all of the news media and specials done on Cooper. If this is what you are suggesting it would be an unsurmountable task...and require lots of research to give names and place and circumstances and claim. This would also encompass new articles written and every witness account ever reported(I like that subject). The page and my mind goes blank just thinking about this one. The two of you have met...but, what I want to know is how does any of your knowledge qualify you to make judgements on the money and time in the ground or on flight information. What qualifies you as someone who would be the GO-to-man regarding Cooper research and why you even have an interest in Cooper? We do know that during the recorded time for John Collins being in prison - Duane Weber was in other places on 2 occassions. Protective custody would explain the Commutation of sentence for John Collins - no one was looking for Duane Weber, but as soon as John Collins was released the FBI chased him all the way to Boulder, CO in 1968 -knocking on the door of his brother-in-law. A phone call is made and Duane Weber and his wife and 4 of her children flee to N.Orleans (abandoning a car with a continental kid along the way)and then to Mobile, AL and then Atlanta, GA and culminating with the Hijacking in 1971. What is he doing during these yrs - working as an insurance saleman under the name of Duane Weber? One company was known for its JM/WAVE connections (hence again Mafia). Strange thing - he served at a banquet for Bob Hope while he was supposed to be in prison in Jefferson. This is just one of the traceable things. His wife said that while he was in Jefferson he spent several months in Solitary confinement...yet they commute him and he is a 5 time felon. Prior to his arrest in 1966 he had worked for an insurance company for a couple of years as John Collins...in the Mo. and Ks area...yet, they claimed to have purged their records - yet the FBI should be able to verify this with a simple SS search. None of you can digest this information because you don't know some of the sordid details I do. Because I do know these details I was able to figure out a lot of Duane's past and what I found made me sick....some I cannot and will never discuss. A man who could have participated knowingly in this could have and would have made that jump in 1971 and part of it was revenge and part of it was the prognosis regarding an illness he had been diagnosed with. If he was ever found out he was a dead man anyway - he had been promised things that were NOT provided and he could trust no one...he was refusing to live what he thought would be his last yrs in poverty and being afraid that around each corner there lurked someone who knew him...he was not able to continue to run and to hide. Since I am sure the party KNEW the VOR had been referred to as HAT, it was just another trivial piece of information and NO MORE trivial than other information presented by others over the yrs in this forum. There is often more than ONE explanation for everything. Now, we have a man purporting the plane was WEST of Portland PDX - after 38 yrs? This RAZORS edge is pushed to limits with the eyewitness accounts provided in the early yrs that put the plane over Vancouver/Camas area and not WEST of the PDX. There were a couple of reports that put it on Target for the PDX. If my memory serves me correctly there was another flight in the air right behind Cooper who complained about weather and was enroute to PDX - I do not remember the details about that other flight. How far behind it was and its exact route and destinations? DON't you think the other plane plays an important part in this chase? Yes, I still believe that Duane was an informant of some sort during the 60's who infiltrated various groups to obtain information. To what extent (unknown) - but his past is checkered with known contacts with such individuals. I was actually involved unbeknowest to me in at least 2 transactions - which means he still had some contacts in 1979 and 1980 and 1981. This does NOT include the individuals who knew him only as John Collins when we resided in Mobile, AL in 1980 and 1981. Nor does this include others I met who were purported to have participated in certain political actions - some convicted for their actions. I still do NOT understand West of Portland - No reports in 1971 put that plane West of Portland. After 35 yrs seems like some people are suddenly claiming this, but why didn't they come forward in 1971? NOTE NEWS ARTICLE Lessons from Failed Cold War Spy Mission in China: Washington AP had an interesting article in the new today regarding the "CIA coming to grips with one of the most devastating episodes in its history, a botched cloak and dagger flight into China that stole 2 decades of freedom from a pair of fresh-faced American operatives". This happened in 1952. The mission was "smotherered in U.S. Government denials, sealed in official secrecy and consigned to the darkest corner of the spy agency's vault of unpleasant affairs". "Bits and pieces of the story surfaced over the yrs, but the lid was intact until a series of disclosures - some required of the CIA , some not- revealed a tale of tragedy, miscalculation, misery and personal tripumph, as well as the agency's misplaced confidence it could manipulate events in China". This was "declassified by the CIA 3 yrs ago and the CIA (HIRED) a filmmaker to produce a documentary". The CIA does not plan to release the fim publicly, but it was premiered for the employees at it Langley, Va. headquarters with an AP reporter in attendance. I just took some quotes from the article because I have not learned how you get an url on an AP Washington new item. There is no name of the reporter on this article. This article was in the June 20, 2010 Dailey News out of Ft.Walton. This was declassified about 3 yrs ago in 2007, but it happened in 1952. IT took our Government 55 yrs to come clean. We are only into the 38 th yr of the only Unsolved Skyjacking in US history...why records I tried to obtain about 3 yrs ago have been sealed until 2038. I guess 50 plus yrs is the NORMAL on these things - so that most if not all participants have deceased. The information I was requested access to was NOT about the 1971 skyjacking...but a request to view pictures that were available until the FBI found out Jo Weber wanted to get into this picture archive. It was immediately closed until 2038. You had to make application to view this file in Washington, D.C. --- my mistake was saying a damn word to the FBI or to anyone about what I wanted to do and what I was looking for. There was also a documentary - a very rare film that was shown publically only one time - when I tried to get a copy of it - POOF - it was NOT available. In the doumentary I saw briefly someone I believed was Duane Weber - and was sure I was just seeing things. I just happened to be watching TV and the subject matter interested me, because it was something Duane had talked about....things he told me, but always like it was about someone else. Robert: I need for you to explain in Laymen terms why you think the Plane was WEST of Portland. All sitings in the Cames area and Portland area place the plane EAST of Portland. I do not understand how you can put this plane West of Portland PDX which would require it fly over a highly populated area. It was my understanding they skirted East of Portland/Vancouver. It is also my understanding that when a Bomb is on board they are instructed to stay away from heavily populated areas. They have to be within search and rescue, but are NOT to fly over the cities unless the skyjacker has instructed them to do so. ===================== Robert stated: . He has been reported to have said they were EAST of Portland/Vancouver and so has the Pilot prior to his death. Remember that some of us are NOT pilots and need answers simplified. There was never any indications the plane flew to the West of PDX - (I am speaking of the airport itself). I have witness account that put the plane over Heisson and then Brush Prairie and then West of Cames. The papers where full of the claims East of Vancouver and West of Cames. Perhaps you have been led to make this supposition because of the location some of the money was found...7yrs later. Also the money had been stored in a proctected area for a period of that time. This has been stated in the Palmer Report of 1980 and again recently by a party who conducted test there within the last 2 yrs. How could the route and sitings have been so mis-led in 1971? This maybe just another qlich probagated by the authorities who want to bury Cooper in the Columbia once and for all. After 38 yrs one would have thought had the plane been West of Portland this would have come up way before 2009 when the flight became controversial in this forum Why would there be controversy about the route 38 yrs later? What follows below is derived from the best of Hammer and Tong Engineering, creative cross-plotting of questionable data, and other advanced techniques that I came across in my days as a practicing Aeronautical Engineer. So you have been warned! The only time data that can be reasonably accurate is that in the ATC transcripts related to NWA 305. I used the four times that also specified altitudes during the initial take-off and climb to 10,000 feet. Those times were plotted against altitude and the resulting manipulations resulted in a projected take-off time of 7:34 PM PST, as opposed to Sluggo's estimate of 7:33 and the FBI's estimate of 7:36. In addition, the winds aloft were estimated from the chart that depicted the original guess as to Cooper's landing zone. All of this resulted in a three segment climb to 10,000 feet with the entire climb being flown at 160 KIAS. First, the climb from the Seattle airport to 7000 feet would take 6.5 minutes and cover 16 nautical miles. The aircraft would maintain 7000 feet for 7 minutes and cover 18.5 NM. Then the climb on up to 10,000 feet would require 6 minutes and cover another 16 NM. The total time from wheels off to 10,000 feet would be 19.5 minutes and cover 50.5 NM. The end result of the above is that the climb to 7000 feet was at a rate of only about 1000 feet per minute and the climb from 7000 to 10,000 feet was at a rate of only about 500 FPM. The aircraft reported "leveling at 10,000" at about 7:53.6 PM which would be the time that it was 50.5 NM down V23. This point is about 13.5 NM north of the Malay Intersection and several NM south of the point that is labeled "1954" on the FBI charts. The distance from the 50.5 NM point to the PDX (now BTG) VORTAC is 54.5 NM and the aircraft would arrive at PDX, assuming it stayed on the centerline of V23 for the entire distance, at 8:11.8 PM PST. If this estimate is correct, then Cooper jumped within 3 NM of the PDX VORTAC assuming a jump during the time the aircraft clock showed 8:11 and assuming the clock was correct to begin with. The above was done on a conservative basis (i.e., tried to slow the airplane down) insofar as possible. There is no basis for assuming that the winds aloft were ever greater than about 30 knots at 10,000 feet, regardless of what Captain Bohan reported at 14,000 feet. While I understand the claim that Cooper jumped into a rainstorm, the weather was generally reported as good with haze and fog south of Portland and generally higher atmospheric pressure south of Seattle. Haze and fog are generally associated with relatively stable weather systems and low surface winds. To make a full disclosure here, I do not think the airliner overflew the PDX VORTAC but stayed some distance west of it to avoid flying over Portland proper. If this assumption is correct, then Cooper probably was quite near Tena Bar when he jumped. I understand that there are some strongly held opinions contradicting the above.
