NOTE the book was not published until 1971! Does this not raise a question in anyone's mind? There is mention of one skyjacker who had connections to General Kesselring (I think he mispelled that name) - but seemed be the same general who Duane talked about and a General who was still alive in 1998. This one individual kept trying to get hired on by the airlines and worked as an apartment manager and in the insurance field. This man committed some weird crimes - but you can read about them on page 63. On page 64 the man discusses while incarcerated he and other patient talk about kidnapping the Kennedy children and when released tried to become a mercenary. Seems like this man ran to Miami over and over. Must have been a safe haven for criminals. A common thread with the skyjackers was a controlling father...hostile. The author has 3 cases - Dan, Frank and Rafe. Strange that these 3 names which I assume are just made up, are similar names used by criminals of exceptional crimes I we are all tired of hearing about. The question was not ask of me, but I have read the book and do have an edition. He focuses on 1968 and the times. Stock market prices and cost of living. Wonder what he thinks about today's economics? His first interviews are of 2 guys who skyjack a plane in Aug of 1968. He interviewed them at a federal prison - one was jailed in Cuba and the other in Miami but sent to federal prison. He did his book by spending one day a month talking to the skyjackers. He would interview 2 or 3 skyjacker on these days. His first was Brian in 1969. The second was Elmer. Both were religious men. It was his general consenuse the life situation of the men had poor image of themselves and recently had been going in a downward spiral toward a point of non-existence. Having used all manner of defenses: Physical movement, physical flight, isolation, pain, sissoceation depression and all had unsuccessful attempt to stop the dwonward fall. "Their final symbolic act, by "standing up" and by "threatening with force" they intendef to move the image of their own person vertically up the axis." He references using the skyjacking for the downtrodden, helpless mistfits were unconsciously attempt to iddentify themselves with astronuauts. He tells about one man who was in the Army and went AWOL and the after some problems he then goes to Houston and RE-ENLISTED in the Army under the same name, but with a different number. It was soon learned he had prior enlistment, and was again severed as being an "undesirable". This was in 1957 - so whoever was lecturing me about Duane not being able to enlist (it was Robert99 - the one who knows all and knows nothing), but who will stand-up and say the man's words in this book are false as he has claimed the records on Duane's military were false or that I was being untrue. The above paragraph should be read by Robert99 - perhaps then he can get his facts correct! For a man who is "Supposed" to be so smart he certainly pipes in on things he knows NOTHING about. The name and age was dead on...and I want to know what it was and why the FBI didn't pick up on it. Now they have no files from before 1950. One would think the FBI would be willing to find out how they missed this one - because I believe it was Duane - just where the hell did they archive it to. I BET it was when the boys left a camp up around Twisp that now has a museum. Probably Duane was there under another name but if he got arrested he got found out he would have left town. The guys he ran with I do know some of the names. Damn I wish I was able to go up there - I think the answer lies in Spokane. Jo, I am a vinyl LP fan and you are mistaken about record changers. They are harsh on vinyl, much worse than single play turntables. When a new record drops down it isn't rotating. It skids and slips a bit as it gets accelerated up to 33 RPM by the turntable. If it's the second or later record it will drop down onto a rotating record and the two will abraid each other as they match speeds. You dont want that, trust me. Thrift stores are full of good quality single play record players these days dirt cheap. Get a belt drive record player with a decent cartridge and you'll be back in business. Technics has some decent ones and they go for about $25-$35 often with an expensive cartridge and good needle. They have an adjustable counterweight that lets you use minium needle force and a tracking adjustment too. Forget drop down record changers, they are not kind to vinyl. Diamond needles last far longer than most people think. I use a microscope to check mine. I keep a brand new needle (stylus for you audiophiles) as a reference for optical comparison. It takes many hundreds of plays before I see any visible wear. Happy New Year Jo. 377 The used ones I have seen around here are not something I would want in my home. Today I received 2 forms from Spokane posted Dec. 24, 2012. Just unbelievable - someone knew I needed a gift out of NO WHERE! I have been playing some old Nat King Cole LP's and CD's. I was singing as I went out to pick up my mail Orange Colored Sky. Most of you won't remember that one! At any rate I opened the box - a bunch of magazines and this letter from Spokane - almost buried within one of the magazines. I am still listening to Nat King Cole - I have all of his LP's and Nothing to play them on. One man BORROWED my treasured collection and tried to tell me they were stolen out of his car, but when he saw my eyes tear up he fessed up that he had hoped I would believe him. When he talked me into loaning them to him about 10 yrs ago it was on the promise he would not scratch them and keep them safe. I forgave him for the cruel joke and everyone who sees this collection wants it - but it is mine and Duane's. I no longer have anything to play them on - I refuse to use the single play players because they destroy vinyl albums. I have searched high and low for a LP player with a 4 to 5 record drop down. Nothing like vinyle - the sound cannot be repeated on CD's or on small players - it takes REAL speakers and diamond tipped needles. Anyone knowing where I could find a 5 drop player - let me know. Has to be emaculant and must have a cover. Had a wonderful Magnavox and it could not be fixed. I have to fill out the forms and send them back with the specifics and maybe just maybe someone will dig thru the OLD records that have been archived and hopefully not destroyed. I KNOW how Tall Duane Weber was in 1977 when I met him and when I married him. 6'1" and he did NOT START to shrink until after 1989 when the kidney disease got bad and he went on diaylsis. Go to any diaylsis unit and ask any nurse or Dr. there what dialysis does to the bones! I do not know what you are finding on line and I don't care to go there - I lived with a husband who had this disease and another one who had cancer - I KNOW what age and disease does the body. Medical authorities or information sites might not address the height loss on informational sites about diaylsis - perhaps they do NOT want to frighten the young people who find this necessary to continue to live. Kidney transplants and newer forms of diaylsis do not ravage the body as badly as the one where they are hooked up to a machine for 5 yrs 3 times a wk to filter their blood. These old machines did NOT just remove the fluilds or substitute for the kidneys. They actuallly FILTERED the blood of the toxins and hence removed most of the nutriencts needed to maintain bones and weight and other functions...such as the para thryroid. Duane was strong and healthy when I married him - he took blood pressure meds. Do you not realize what ADVANCED PKD does. Duane's height did NOT start to shrink until the last 6 yrs of his life. He was on the machine for 5 yrs. Ask any medical professional and they will spell out the problems with diaylsis. It depletes calcium and causes the osteporosis to advance rapidly. Why in 1990's 5 yrs was just about the max one could be on the machine. Now that has been improved and they are living 10 yrs plus on the machine waiting for a kidney, but Duane turned down a kidney because he saw to many children on the machine in Alabama when he went up for evaluation. He came home resolving his mind to accept his fate which came 5 yrs later. He told the Dr. those kids needed a chance at life and he had lived a full life. Duane was not sick when I married him in 1978 - but I did know he had a kidney that was bad, but remember this he lived for many yrs before he needed medical treatment which occurred in 1990. His health had started to fail in 1988 and they prepared him to be on the machine by placing a fistual in his arm - he would hold off going on the machine for 2 more yrs. well that sounds like I'm probably correct about the Canon photo, typically you have a one inch shoe heel Duane was pretty young in the Navy pic from what I recall, puts him over the Cooper limit but within the guidelines. DL can be anything close, they never check, they just ask how tall are you. he was young during his service years, still growing. I was looking at the pic today and that is when the lines caught my eye, seemed he was over the 6 foot mark. so to best sum it up Duane was 6-1 to 6-2 Duane's height was never listed as 6'2" on anything. Navy - age 16 -5'11" Jefferson 1966 6'1" San Quentin 6'0" Georgia D License 6'1" That is just what I could lay my hands on. As a young boy he had not matured to his full height. I cannot read the markings on the Canon file, but he had on shoes - do we know what he was wearing in other measuements. As far as I know Duane's height was always 6'1" and then of course when he started to shrink in his 60's as I have and with the way diaylisis and the meds the took - they ate away at the bones and he shrunk a lot in the those last yrs. Sluggo was here - Sluggo saw the letters and he knows the truth on this. I still have and will always have Max's letters and the Marked up book he went thru with me. There was also several long phone calls. Max was a nice guy! So yea, I get huffy when someone like YOU speaks ill of him. There are pictures of the letters in the book - and the one for Clara is what got both MAX and I. The same expression Clara made - "We all have a little larcency in our hearts". That was WHY Max went to CA before he died. Duane's ex stated that on the phone to me and in a note she wrote me. Max listened to a tape of her voice and he thought they were ONE and the SAME. Only fractions of Max's story are real. He composed the story with only 6 phone calls lasting about 40 minutes to 1 hr. He did NOT have call tracing abilities back then and she would call late at night and she would have been drinking - just like the ex of Duane's did to me. She had Max's private number and we figured out how she got that. The calls came in the night and not at work. The ex told me about New Years in NY and Duane told me about New Years in NY. She talked about it and when I did the math there was ONLY one yr they could have had the opportunity to be in N.Y. New Yrs 1972. You are talking about Unsolved Mysteries. There were 2 threads there. I entered a thread about Cooper ( and dbcoopercatcher was NOT Knoss). It was dbcoopercatcher who set up the other thread for me hoping Mr. Motto would leave. Mr. Motto showed up as CaretakerAl and crashed the new one. Best I can remember without dragging the huge albums out. Why I was so upset when he found this thread. Thankfully you guys read through him and ignore him - plus if you go back you will find his story grew and grew and grew. His obsession with McCoy just got out of hand. I even bought into it until I learned the history behind McCoy and walked on his postings. Back then - I could be REAL NICE. Now I am not nice when someone deliberately makes up garbage and I make my disclaimers known. I will note there is a poster who calls himself night clerk in the second thread Catcher set up for me, but, the story told by that particular night clerk is NOT the story the REAL nightclerk told me. dbcoopercatcher who ever he was was very nice to me. He set the thread up and even came to the thread to help me along - he was very pleased I learned how to get the pictures in the thread. The thread was put there so I could tell my story without messing up their thing...but, Knoss found it! So it went to HELL! Popeye and dbcoopercatcher would come in and ask a questions on occasion to keep things going. One of these guys I believe was one of the Guys who finally came forward with Mayfield as a suspect. Vicki, the article had a disclaimer to it - but, it is something I want to look into. Might go to the library and see what they have. Duane certainly was not a good man all of his life, but there were enough little things noted that I did NOT associate with much of anything. Some of the other stories I heard about Duane make a little more sense now. On ex-wife hated his guts and the other ex thought he was the best thing since sour apples, she had her share of problems...so their life was always on the run. For some reason - he was different with me. Yes, I saw anger and discontent at times and his behaviour was not always acceptable, but I wasn't perfect either....but, he had this strong urge to please me and to be accepted by my family and others. The prison photo: I cannot make high quality photos to post and that was a zerox that was scanned and sent to me by an investigative reporter. I have all of Duane's prison records and each one records his height. Duane's height I would have to look up on all of the files - this is a matter of record. You read into anything you want to, but the criminal files are correct. Duane's height like anyone of age and with kidney dialysis shrunk. Max Gunther's book about Cooper was how I found out the name used by D.B was Dan Cooper. I have many written communication made to me by MAX and we had many many phone exchanges. Key in Max Gunther and you will find the story about Max and I can support the things he told me. That was the book I was reading the night I called the FBI because a friend who I told the story about what Duane said before he died "I'm Dan Coooooper" I did not know who the hell Dan Cooper was. He suggested I look the guy up and this was the only book available in our local branch on D.B. Cooper. I was on the phone to the FBI after just a few pages - now 18 yrs later I am still at it and no one cares. You will also realize there are THINGS I never told, although I do believe I have mentioned the 3 incidences above in the past. A nut - maybe! It took a nut to think the damn thing up or someone hell bent on suicide by Sky Marshall. Perhaps he just wanted enough money to keep him off the streets until he die and if he was caught alive - he would at least not be sleeping on the streets or in homeless shelters. A sociopath - maybe not. It could have been stress and a diagnosis he could NOT escape from. If an individual had found they would die a horrible slow death with renal failure and then diaylsis - in those days with the rudimentary treatments - I think perhaps he may have temporarily have been off his rocker! It was evident from Weber's background he was NOT well adjusted considering some of the things I have been told about his activities as a youngster. 1. One of these things: The sister told me about Duane when he was only about 11/13. There was this hill with rocks (small boulders). She was with him but around 6/8. I forget the actual ages. Duane put a board under a large rock and disloged it when a car came by. She never told me what the consequences were of his action - if someone got hurt or worse. The problem was she witnessed this and she was just a small child. That is ALL I know about the incident. 2. The incidence where he took a large upright piano and shoved it down a flight of stairs - because he hated his music teacher. Age about 8 when this happened. 3. He took a baseball bat and smashed all of the windows out around the same time as the incident with the piano. The above stories tell me Duane was a very troubled child and these stories were told to me by his sister. The brother knew about the piano and the windows, but only she knew about the rocks (she called them boulders - but remember she was just a child). This was her big brother. Perhaps these incidents to things going on in his life made him a sociopath, but I know nothing about the disorder. He was a very disturbed child - needless to say. I don't know who said this Blevin or Georger: Duane's presense in Spokane was checked by phone yrs ago by yours truely. I decided to recheck because it bugged me and this time I came up with Age 88, Duane Weber Spokane on a site. Since 88 made that man's birthdate 1924 - I decided to check it out with the local authorities and this is when I find out their records only go to 1950. So NOW it has been eradicated from the files and the only hope is the local Newpaper archives and historians. One would have thought the FBI would have found this in 1996. It was probably still on the books then...they just did NOT check Spokane and/or ignored it or it turned out to be another Weber born that same yr named Duane.
