Thanks to everyone for all the input. I'm sure I'll love learning to fly the hell out of my normal booties (wee Tetris!). I like criticalLf's car metphor. My normal booties will I guess equate to my GTI. It's slow as hell but a hell of a lot more fun to drive than most cars. In getting reading to order a jumpsuit, I was told by the maker that he didn't want to make me a suit with Mega booties, given my low number of jumps. I agree that they would most likely be a bit much for me, but I can't help wonder when (in terms of jump numbers and skill sets) it makes sense to start looking at upgrading to mega's. Anyone? I totally know how it goes, I was in the same boat two summers ago. I myself am fairly shy when it comes to talking to strangers, but just introduce yourself (possibly with the aide of ____). The people that are worth talking to will talk back. Find a way to engage them ie: "can you help me out, I have no idea how to roll a _____"l, or some such introduction that will get them engaged. Good luck and enjoy your trip! The Rembrant Haus was pretty cool, as was the Dutch Naval history museum. Blue skies Tommy. I only talked to you once or twice, but even watching you do your thing from afar, you made a lasting impression on me. The calm, controlled manner in which you did your gear checks and practice EP's definately stuck with me, expecially because I could expect to see you doing them on every jump, without fail. Know you had a lasting influence on a new jumper at Byron. I only wish I had hustled more to get my license so that I could jump with you, or at least spend more time at the DZ getting to know you. Given I've only jumped out of two, but I voted for the 182 over the KA. The view in the Cessna that Byron has is much better than the KA, and it's more comfortable to boot! I havn't seen it yet, but I did see an extended trailer at the H.P. Lovecraft film festival in October. It looks quite bad ass. Just saw the trailer in the theare tonight (rocky balboa, don't see it) and I'm hoping they keep it as dark as they cut the trailer to look. 1:0:0 1 Broken down car (possibly fixable, though going to buy a new one anyways), and no jumps due to crappy weather and the aformentioned broken car. I was going to try and get some of the safety review and non FF/canopy stuff signed off, but as I've mentioned twice, my car crapped out. You may have noticed that I'm not too happy about it. Most people I know use either a dell or a mac of some manner. Dell refurbs can be had for pretty cheap, and are a great deal if you get them with the extended warranty (3 year on site service is the shit). dell refurbs In terms of picking a model, generally popular features include being fairly light, good battery life, and decent sized screen. It's been a while since I looked, but the Dell inspiron 640m looks like the newer version of the 600m that all my friends were buying 2 years or so ago. If you're thinking about getting a dell, check the cupon sites such as http://www.4computercoupons.com/ before buying. Might save you some mulah. I've been using Verizon for years, and one of the reasons I'm still with them more than a year after my contract. This guy is REALLY bad at explaining he means. I bet anyone that I could have resolved this call in a matter of 5 minutes or less. He goes on about "teaching basic math" when he can't clearly explain basic fractions or decimals, he keeps going back and forth between the terms he's using and re-booting the explaination that he is trying to give. Parroting back the same thing you've said 100 times isn't likely to help someone understand on the 101st. Given, the math involved isn't rocket science, but as such it should have been easy for the caller to explain. Don't ever let this guy near a student of any manner.
