Jumping a new canopy at home DZ
mnskydiver688 replied to mnskydiver688's topic in Safety and Training
I am in the process of listening to the newest Skydive Radio and something came to mind. I recently finally got to purchasing my own rig. Thanks to all those that loaned me theirs. The canopy is slightly smaller than I would have liked. It is a Sabre 1 170 and I am 185 out the door. I have used it previously a couple of times and I have jumped a 170 a total of 4 times. The last canopy I have jumped is a PD-210. Ok now my question. Jumping at a Cessna dropzone for the majority of the summer I am less nervous about learning to fly my new (to me) canopy, but what should my approach be to possibly attending boogies? I am going to be jumping more than a lot once the season begins up here. What are some opinions? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
Who can crash for the night/weekend at your place??

I have a one bedroom apartment so while I would like to open the door, I'm sure someone could find a better place than mine. I have no second bed and I am a college student so my apartment is less than clean. BUT, if it is some hot skydiver chick, I would be perfectly fine with sharing a bed. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
I have been impressed with the helmet. I like the audible placement and the fit is snug. Initially the fit was a little too tight, I have a somewhat large head. Also the audible is very easy to hear in freefall contrary to some reviews. Overall good helmet.

Being six feet above the ground rather than below. Knowing that spring is on its way. My family and my girlfriend. Feeling the sun on my face. Having the opportunity to do the things I love to do. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Sunset loads are probably my favorite and then probably those days with the big fluffy clouds that the bottoms start at about 5k and end at about 10k and on the plane ride you know you will soon be so close you could touch them. I guess that is why I connected so quickly to skydiving is just how connected you can feel to your surroundings. The quiet feeling of being under canopy, nothing between you and the environment. Ahhh good stuff Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

I just wanted to get some feelings from others on something I feel skydivers are very tuned in with and that is the environment. I just got back from a week in Maui and it struck me just how connected I can get to an environment. I apologize if I am getting sappy. What I am wondering is how many feel that connection? I mean it is hard for me to describe the feeling when I look out on the ocean and see it melt into the sky. I guess with how fast life has gotten I realized just how much I might be missing. Maybe my fellow skydivers can relate or maybe I am just babbling. Feel free to babble also if you have felt this before. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Illinois: Driving alternative fuel car may be a felony
mnskydiver688 replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
Hmm... The government is encouraging people to be more mindful of the environment and find new ways to cut down on negative impacts to the environment. But instead of rewarding them we punish them for doing what has been asked of them. Also isn't the government considering tax breaks to people who adopt practices such as these? Or are those tax breaks only for the energy companies? you know those guys that Cheney and G.W. are friends with. I wonder if illegal aliens caught in this situation would have to pay? I guess they wouldn't because they don't have to worry about paying there share, and if they did have to pay they would just use there nifty welfare checks. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
I guess you could jump from a J-3 Cub out the window, but it might take a while to get to 12,000 feet. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

I don't use snooze... I end up hitting the clock enough to shut it off completely. I once woke up with the clock across the room and no idea how it got there. I also have a problem getting out of bed. I will just lay in bed drifting in and out of sleep. As far as that little treat of an alarm clock I am sure I would thoroughly go nuts soon after I began using it, BUT it could be fun. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

The Repuglican Party continues to be a hypocritical joke
mnskydiver688 replied to Lucky...'s topic in Speakers Corner
I guess it is a vicious cycle that takes the American people and many times the world on a nice roller coaster ride. History has shown that largely when the democrats are the majority in government, America grows economically. Now the people that have been in power for some time (Republicans) will argue that the economy has been growing. Then why is education suffering? Why has there been such a scare over the growth of outsourcing? Republicans historically have advocated for small government, but look at how much government has gotten involved in things where they previously did not tread. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -

Do I agree with the fact that he had an affair? No. Should there have been that much time and effort spent on revealing the whole thing? No! Yes it was wrong that he lied, but the fact that so much was put into the damn thing. I mean there are much better reasons to spend the time and money on impeaching a president than him getting some head and staining a dress. Maybe us dems wouldn't bitch so much if the republicans didn't give us so many reasons to. Edit: Lies matter to republicans? Could've fooled me. Maybe they only matter when they aren't the ones that are lying. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -

If your club is sanctioned by the school do not make any references to alcohol in any public places as a part of the club experience. I was in a ski/snowboard club where they were investigated by the school after photos of drinking were posted on the club website. Now we all know that in the college environment drinking plays a role. As far as dealing with the school itself, keep it on DL or be prepared for possible consequences some of which may be severe. I am debating on jumping this weekend. There is still a good amount of snow on the ground. I haven't jumped in about 2 months and my last jumps were in Florida. So my question is how hard is it jumping with snow on the ground? Oh I am also jumping a slightly smaller canopy than what I have jumped in the past. Thanks for any info Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

TSA starting X-Ray screening of passengers
mnskydiver688 replied to ladyskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Now I understand the reasoning behind what you said in that post. Anyway, if people are not worried about their own privacy getting invaded they will be at some point or another. Sooner or later theirs will be compromised. As mentioned before terrorists will continue to find ways to work around security measures and as long as national policy dictates that we deal with that by implementing reactionary systems and procedures the people in charge will continue to find new and creative ways of invading our privacy. Does a tinfoil hat work? I might have to try that. You must have personal experience considering your suggestion. Thank you for your words of encouragement. I will be sure to keep in mind that based off one comment you have found it necessary to make judgments about who I am on a fundamental level. Good luck with that approach to people.
