I would agree with the modified statement. I know to many people that make the same mistake over and over and over again. They are experienced but they are not wise. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch -

Do you honestly believe that a person can not learn from the experience of others? It has been proven over and over again that a person can learn from the experiences of others and thus it is possible for a person to have a little experience but a lot of wisdom. One occurrence ... and you can't prove that it hasn't, isn't, and won't happen in any other country. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch -
The people were supposed to be the pilots but often were the passengers with the suits doing the flying. Between the suits entangling with the canopy and low pull altitudes ... death was common. Many of them drew large crowds, expecting to see them fly, only to watch them fall to their death. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch

How many medical advances are made in the USA and used in Cuba? How many medical advances are made in Cuba and used in the USA? What type of government does the USA have? How much taxes do USA citizens pays? What type of government does Cuba have? How much taxes do Cuba citizens pay? What type of economy does the USA have? What type of economy does Cuba have? ... You're kidding, yes? No. I'm pointing out a few of the differences between the USA and Cuba which make comparing the healthcare system of the USA and Cuba like comparing apples and orangutan. And that is... Time = Experience = Wisdom. Your learning more everyday, young grasshopper Back in the 80's, I went to work on the railroad. We lived in the railcar that we worked testing rail. Sure, I learned a few things from those in my own age group but, the real learning came from the guys who have been rolling down the rails for 30+ years and have seen and encountered the things that I have yet to see or encountered. Their advise always trumped the advise of someone with just a few years on the rails. It is far wiser to take the advise of those who have traveled around the block than those who have only taken a few steps. Of course I learn more everyday ... but from whom. If you need to know about rolling down the rails then ask the person with 30+ years rolling down the rails. However, if you need to know about rocket science, it is probably better to ask the person with 1+ years building rockets then the person with 30+ years rolling down the rails with 0 years building rockets. I agree that a person of 75 knows more than they knew at 25 ... I disagree that a person of 75 knows more than a person of 25. A person makes a decision based on what they know. A person knows more as they age. It is only natural that someone will remember a decision they made in their past that they would change given knowledge they acquired after that decision. What you are talking about ... you are contradicting yourself. On one hand you state that an older person has more experience and wisdom than a younger person. On the other hand you state that age is but one of the many factors in determining experience and wisdom. Clarification? "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch -

You can believe whatever you want and you can use whatever examples you want. I don't and won't believe that older people will always have more experience than younger people and I will not believe that because a person has more experience that they also have more wisdom. People that do believe this are missing out on the experience and wisdom of the people that are younger than them. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch -

I believe that age has a bearing on the amount of experiences you have. However, I believe that age has no bearing on the amount of experiences you have compared to the amount of experiences someone else has. A person can have a lot of experience and only a little wisdom. A person can have a little experience and a lot of wisdom. Wisdom comes from learning from your experiences and the experiences of others. Wisdom does not come from just having experiences or listening to the experiences of others. "That looks dangerous." Just because someone has dealt with something doesn't mean they dealt with it correctly. Dealing with something gives you experience. Dealing with something correctly gives you wisdom. I know people that had bad financial habits, declared bankruptcy, and still have bad financial habits. They have financial experience but they lack financial wisdom. "That looks dangerous." Many, many people can only learn from experiencing things themselves. For instance, you can try to tell them that usually Age = Experience, but they just won't listen. they have to firgure it out for themselves. I already agreed that an older person has had the opportunity to have more experiences. However, I have learned from my experiences that age does not directly correlate to experiences and experience does not directly correlate to wisdom. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch -

No. It shows how much they have to learn about the experiences of others. It is the belief that we have to experience everything ourselves to learn that allows history to repeat itself. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch -

Geez CanuckInUSA it is rather unfortunate that you (not me) believe that experience and wisdom correlate directly to age. Well, MOST older people have experienced more than MOST younger people. That's just the way life works. An older person has had the time to experience more than a younger person (it does not mean they have, it means they could have). Wisdom does not depend on the amount of experiences. Wisdom depends on if you learned from the experiences (regardless if they are your experiences or the experiences of others). There are plenty of smart people who are young and dumb people who are old. Yes, but experience/wisdom come with time. For instance, in combat I would take the advice of a war veteran Sergeant over a noob Ensign any day. A person gains experience by having experiences (not by the passage of time). A person gains wisdom by learning from experiences (not by the passage of time). "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch -
