  1. My DZ has seen gear with two different sized mlw friction adapters on the same student jav. One of them would have allowed the turnback to pull through. Draw your own conclusions... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. Skydance has a good assortment of video-gadgets, many not available elsewhere. www.pia.com/skydance _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. Chicagoland keeps most of their t-shirts behind the counter, for this very reason. Students are directed into the gear store to watch their video, which gets aired as soon as its edited. After watching the video, they're handed their certificate and two dollar off a t-shirt coupon in the store. It seems to work... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. I don't think there's any reason to think a longerrepack cycle will increase prices. Price is usually the intersection between supply and demand. If demand goes up, prices go up. If supply goes up, prices go down. Expanding the repack cycle will in effect reduce demand. Reducing demand almost always results in lower prices. Riggers hard pressed to find business will be tempted to cut their prices. It's very dificult to raise prices while starving for work... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. The skyhook is a marvelous invention, it perfectly solves a lot of the issues that existed with RSL's. However it doesn't address the needs of a camera flyer. People with large camera setups mounted on their helmets are often the only group who have a justifiable need for a delay between cuttaway and reserve deployment. This is contraindicated to the use of a skyhook. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. Update: Me and craichead won't be able to make it this year. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. You left out "none of the above". _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. As far as I know, the US has no plans to do anything about China. What's your point? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. Yes. More than being overkill, it's a pain in the ass to insert the camera into the D-Box with a condom on it. The condom always bunches up. Bonehead's D-boxes are a lot cheaper than Cookie Composites, but obviously more hassle since you live overseas. Their medium size fits the PC9. http://www.boneheadcomposites.com/cammount.htm The lower number is wider. The widest I've seen is the .3 $199 seems really cheap for the .3, but really quite expensive for a .45. In America, you can get a .45 for around $60. Probably not. I've never heard of a "diamond cut lens".... Nor do I know what "macro" means on a video conversion lens. As far as I know, the "Macro" feature would normally be built into the camera, not on the conversion lens....? I have a .5 Kenko lens that does close up shots just fine... No. Your filter size needs to match either the diameter of the camera lens exactly. Often a wide angle lens will increase the diameter of the lens, so if you want to put a filter ontop of the wide angle lens, you'll need to match the diameter of it, not the camera. Not a bad idea. A UV filter doesn't affect the picture much at all. The only real benefit to a UV filter is that it will protect your expensive wide angle lens from scratches. Just yesterday I threw out a UV filter because it was scratched and bought a new one. I was happy I didn't have to throw out the wide angle lens! However, make sure your wide angle lens has threads so you can screw on the filter. A lot of the newer ones don't. A Step down ring allows you to put a different sized lens onto your camera. For example, you can put that 25MM lens on your 30mm camera. Not an ideal solution, as it creates a needless attachment point, and some argue it slightly degrades the quality of the video. __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. You're forgetting that this is Washington we're talking about, where aparently people aren't allowed to change minds. People in Washington who change their minds are called "flip-floppers", and "fence sitters". _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. This is a really old thread. I'll add only 5 words. Deuce, You da Man. Thanks! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. BTW - here is an interesting read from the CATO institude on how the two parties stack the odds against any newcomers: http://www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa00ces.html Definitely not the whole truth, but interesting nonetheless. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. I'm confused. Before you said there was a two party system because Americans were smarter than everyone else. Now you say that America is better than everywhere else because of the two party system. Suffice it to say that I continue on my quest for "a good answer". I think PhillyKev came closest. I'm gonna have to look that up... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. Did I mention that my chief complaint was that I hadn't gotten a good answer? "Because we're better then everyone else" is NOT a good answer. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. After the fatality in Miami, Sunpath issued a service bulletin requiring the inspection of the MLW Adjustment (when installed), before the next jump. A copy of the service bulletin is here: http://www.sunpath.com/downloads/bulletins/sp02.pdf What I found odd when reading it now, is that there is no requirement for ongoing inspection. The MLW adjuster was to be inspected once after the issueance of the SB, but aparently never again....? Are schools/owners/riggers required to include this type of maintenance in the inspection/repack cycle? Since the SB didn't specify a reinspection cycle, is one implied by the standard I/R ? Should one fail and there's no note of inspections since the original after the SB, could/would the rigger/owner be held responsible? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. One thing I've asked of a few friends, and never gotten a good answer... What is it about the US system that forces a two party system? What discourages other parties from growing? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  18. You understand that they're called "Thump", right? That in itself makes them completely unsuitable for skydiving. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  19. No. Pay attention. It's only the history that makes it racist. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  20. Then Faber should be asking his employer, not us. However, the question was posted here. Presumably he was looking for our opinion, not that of his employer. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. Correct. That's why he's not a customer. Once you agree to do certain work for someone, you do it to their standards. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  22. I would have asked the jumper, and done whatever he suggested. The customer is always right. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. Nothing. You don't. I hadn't realised the bottom holes were threaded. Until I realised this, I had thought I would dissasemble the base-plate, and then screw down into the helmet. Once I figured out they were threaded and I could screw up into them, then dissasembling it didn't make sense. Of course, by this time... I'd already dissasembled it. Conveniently, the holes are two inches on-center, so you really shouldn't need to take it apart to position the holes. Either a paper template or carefull use of a measuring tape works fine. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  24. The minute I showed up at a DZ where the gear was less then 20 years old, I was immediately transitioned to throw-out gear. That was one of the defining moments when the stuff I had been jumping wasn't the global standard... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. Dang. I'm just full of questions. How have people attached their stroboframes to the helmet? I'm thinking about using a thumb-screw through the l-bracket on my FTP, I'm also thinking about the 4 screws they included in the package.... But there's only two screw-holes in the base-plate, and it looks like I need to take apart the baseplate to get to the screw-holes. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
