  1. I really look forward to reading the book he's eventually going to write... It's hard to imagine, but I once thought Powell would make a great President. Now I can't help but feel he's torpedoed that simply to do his "duty" propping up president Bush. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. You can not have a discussions about white people making fun of blacks on film without mentioning the very embarrasing history. That has to include the "blacksploitation" flicks, plus "Blackface" and Minstrel. There is no such embarasing history of black people making fun of whites. The history here is very short, but more importantly, is really quite funny... Despite the obvious comparison between White Chicks and BlackFace, there really is no comparison because there is no historical baggage. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. It really doesn't matter, as long as it's fresh, and homemade. Find a simple recipe for homemade chocolate syrup, and you'll never go back to the bottle. Caramel sauce is harder to make, but even more rewarding to do yourself. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. Yah. I REALLY don't like this trend toward the "pedestal" bases. Lets hope they stop that action real quick... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. The failure of proper discipline happened LONG before that kid threw this conniption. People who are against hitting kids are not against discipline. It sounds like that kid needed discipline a long time ago, so that he would not be acting like he is now. Secondly, what makes you think that the mother hasn't hit the kid repeatedly, and that is actually contributing to his unsocialble behaviour? How do we know that the mother refuses to spank him? Lastly, why has a mother left her kid in the car while she's at the doctors office? Kids are known for doing bad things when they're left without supervision. Why is this kid without supervision? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. The answer to that question is only found by people testing limits. The line only exists once it's been established. New concepts like black people parading as whites is untested. It's similar to "blackface", where white people would wear black make-up, and usally act like idiots. Blackface is almost always certainly terribly offensive, simply because of the history. Black people going as whites don't have that negative history. Is it over the line? I dunno. I haven't seen the movie, so I can't really judge. Nor, am I really clear what the "line" is, in this case. I do know that the people responsible have a long history of making damn funny show, so I really don't care either way. I'm sure I'll see it some day, and odds are I'll bust a gut laughing. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. We watched it last night. I liked it, craichead didn't. Very skillfull baiting. I love how they slowly crank-up the absurdity... I can see that's why people don't figure it out. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. So... People are allowed to criticize BFC, or F/9-11 based on what they saw in the TV ads? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. 1. Open mouth. 2. Insert foot. 3. Remove foot. 4. Season to taste. 5. Re-Insert foot. 6. Enjoy. D'oh! Ok, I'll shut up now. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. Work with me here. First, you posted this: I understand that to mean that you didn't see the movie. You quoted the Kansas Star (i think), who claimed Moore did not acknowledge the congressman's nephew. Then I chastised you for criticising something you hadn't seen. I told you when I watched the movie, I clearly heard Moore credit the congressmans nephew in the voiceover. I did not call you a liar. I chastised you for not knowing what you're talking about. I thought the inference was clear: that you should be more careful about your sources. First hand accounts are always best, if you want to be taken seriously. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. Whats' amazing is that just last week Cheney was insisting that they were still right... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. That's a fine opinion. I understand it, and respect it. In Iraq, the lawyers are threatened with beheading for even defending the guy. In America, the lawyers are "fuckers" for asking what could be a valid question. Same idea, the only difference is degree. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. I'm confused. Are you admitting that the justifications for the War in Iraq are false? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. If you'd seen the movie, you'd be able to judge for yourself. You'd also know what you were talking about. Moore did not cut that from the movie. He states it in the voice-over at the start of the scene involving the congressmen. Geeze.... Watch the movie. The critique it. In that order. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. So... you would rather he NOT have a fair trial....?!? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. Here are the official Beer Rules(tm) Pay special attention to rules number 8 and 9. 1. An unwritten law, one as immutable and irrefutable as gravity and backed by history, states that skydivers enjoy the drinking of beer almost as much as flight itself. 2. A manifestation of this fact is the tradition of the buying by an individual skydiver a case of beer (that being twenty-four cans or bottles holding twelve or more ounces of beer, ale, or some similar such substance) for his or her fellow jumpers to celebrate the accomplishment of a particular feat or milestone in one's jump career. 3. It is generally recognized that the buying and drinking of such beer enhances that common bond shared by skydivers and contributes greatly to the body of knowledge concerning parachuting and its related activities. 4. It is a sad fact that some skydivers are ignorant of what constitutes a significant achievement (usually and henceforth referred to as a "first"). Equally sad is the fact that some unscrupulously thirsty jumpers will shamelessly try to "weasel" a case of beer out of a jumper for an inauspicious event. 5. Recognizing this, the following happenings are to be regarded as suitable occasions for buying beer. This list is not to be construed as exhaustive. 6. First jump (It is not required of students. They are simply encouraged to participate). 7. If more than one first is accomplished on a single jump, only one case of beer is required. 8. Participation is voluntary. If a skydiver chooses not to participate by buying, neither shall the skydiver enjoy the fruits of the accomplishments of others. 9. Non-drinkers may buy sodas and buyers may make up any part or whole of their purchase in soda for the enjoyment of those non-drinkers. 10. It is generally recognized that using a reserve parachute for the purpose of saving one's worthless, non-packing self from a gory death requires him to buy the saving rigger dinner or the bottle of liquor of his choice. 11. These articles are ironclad and binding. For the price of an additional six-pack, a sniveling skydiver may enlist the services of an S & TA to represent him or her in a hearing where the committee will rule against that skydiver a second time. * Completing the student course of instruction * First four way * First eight way * First CRW * First time in the peas * First night jump * First kiss pass * First competition * First water jump * First dead center (measured by a judge or electronic scoring pad on a three or five cm disc) * First jump on a new main or new rig (purchased, not borrowed) * Any license, award, rating, or badge * Getting your name or photo in "Parachutist" Magazine * Gross safety violations not resulting in serious injury or death * Any jump ending in "00" * First cutaway/reserve ride * First jump from an aircraft not normally used at home drop zone * First jump at a new drop zone * First demo jump * First save (you riggers thought you were getting off easy) * Vomiting in the airplane or on another skydiver * First round canopy jump (Geez, used to be the other way around) * First broken bone * First camera jump _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  17. Packing is a very easy way for somebody with minimal experience to make money skydiving. You can make GOOD money packing. Like $400 in a weekend, if you're on DZ staff. Lack of funds is no reason to give up skydiving. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  18. I have no doubt that Kerry will come to regret the comment. Either because he actually thinks it matters, or the other side will throw the comment back at him, in a Howard Dean (EeeeeeeeeAaaaaaaaGggggggHhhhhhhhhh!) kinda way! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  19. I'm 90% sure that was intended as a joke. Sure was odd to hear, tho... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  20. I'm all for encouraging the newbie, but this is not good advice. Balloon landings are often the most chalanging ones you'll make, since they're almost always off-dz, and into unknown teritory. Jumpers often find themselves landing up or downhill, or flying towards a previouslly invisible obstacle. They make this realization often at the very last minute. If someone is avoiding a landing area because they're canopy skills aren't great, balloon jumps are equally not appropriate. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. One big question: Why? I just bought a stroboframe for 2/3 of the cost....? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  22. I too, have the ubiquitous copy of me taking out a 16 way... I also have the freefall colision of LemonHead and that other guy. Strangely, both clips I shot when I was down your way a year or so ago. Let me know if you want either... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. So is the 120 just held in place by the foam? How did you attach the box to the helmet? Relocate the screws from the side to the bottom? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  24. I've got in my hands a shiny scratch free Flat Top Pro. In front of me is a not-so shiny, nor scratch free PC120. I'm sitting here, looking at these two... and not seeing how they go togeather. I also have a D-Box. Think this might have something to do with it. How have people mounted their PCXXX cameras on a flat-top? The PC120 has a bottom loading tape. I need to come up with a way that I can still swap out tapes reasonable quickly. Thoughts? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. Also, there is an AFF concession there, usually run by the folks at Chicagoland. If you're shy of 50 jumps, you can always hook up with them. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
