  1. You guys know that even when PM give you those error messages, the messages go through anyways? As long as you've got a valid To: a subject, and a message, it will go through. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  3. I don't think he was refering to you. There is a lot of homophibia going on around here, and I'm a tad surprised. Skydivers have always been very accepting of differnt people, I'm surprised this is so different. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  4. Doesn't the F100 have overly complex shudder remote cables, making them dificult to adapt for thumb switches? I have a Nikon F4 - completely manual, not even a motor drive. I bought it shortly before I took up skydiving. Doh! _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  5. IANAP - I am no a pilot. I wouldn't think pilots would fear running out of fuel, rather it seems to me the fact that a jump pilot DID run out of fuel is proof enough that it was the farthest thing from his mind. I would also think it's the one thing that the pilot CAN control, personally I tend to fear those things I don't control. An example of a thing the pilot can't control: jumpers running into a spinning props. Many jumpers have absolutely no exposure to GA before they start jumping, they're a wildcard around a spinning prop. You never know what they might do next. Maintenance ferry flights and boogie trip would seem second nature, almost as simple as the GA play you did as a private pilot. But what do I know? Engine outs at 100 feet? Yeah, that goes to maintenance, and trust in whoever does it is being thorough. Trust in someone else, so I would fear this. Ultimately I voted for this one. This I would fear most. It goes to trust in myself, mistrust of things I don't necesarly do myself. (not posting to diverdriver.com because I can't remember my username. DOH!) _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  6. On the tandem I did a few weeks ago... "Am I really still attached to this guy?" I realised I've taken the security of my own parachute for granted. pot heads?

I had to take a drug test before I could start a consulting gig I had a few years ago. It was all very formal, I even had to visit an off site lab of their chosing to have it done. Here's the catch - I failed, or at least I must have. I'd smoked something just a few nights before. I peed in the cup knowing full well that I was gonna fail. I never heard a thing. They gave me the job... They were anal enough to require the drug test but didn't have the courage to stick to their principles when it came to hiring time.. I ended up quitting a year later.. Generally, I think this specific company was one of the most mis-managed ones I've ever worked for, and I've worked for quite a few... _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Yup, Gananoque. Not a bad little DZ there, either. See the attached map. The cottage is at the hand drawn X. The map is pretty innacurate, too. Gananoque sits on the St Lawrence River, not Lake Ontario. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  15. One of my employees swears this happened, too - although he didn't mention Dan Akroyd. I do remember something about a total mal and his fall was boken by a roof he fell through, somehow he survived. This isn't what my co-workers are talking about, though. This was also way before I got into the sport, so maybe I'm just perpetuating the myth. Dan Akroyd used to host a show called "psy-factor" which was suposed to be investigative reporting into "paranormal" reports, but it was just lame, and many of the reports were obviously faked. I think that people simply don't want to believe we're nuts, and want to think that we're not REALLY risking death every time we jump... I think the public at large somehow wants to take the risk away from us, so that they can understand it why we do it. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  16. If you get good, you'll be able to pack a rig in under 10 minutes. If you're at a big dropzone, you can make four or five hundred bucks in a weekend. WooHoo! Except that your hands will be bleeding, your back will be aching, and you'll fall asleep at seven pm on sunday night. But I'll assume you're not at a huge DZ. I'll also asume there'll be some people that won't want you to pack because you're 14, so your hands will probably NOT be bleeding after the end of the weekend. All I can say is never stop learning, an always listen to the people that you're packing for. Think of it as a business, and think about customer service. If somebody wants you to use a specific kind of rubber band, USE THAT RUBBER BAND. If somebody wants you to fold the nose of their canopy a certain way, do it. Expect people to be picky, and cater to that. Expect people to complain about some pack jobs, and compliment others. You won't know what you did differently. It'll come to the point where listening to the complaints just comes with the job... Remember that if your pack jobs were really that bad they wouldn't have you pack. Yup, that's a cat burger. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  21. Diver, I think the Stiletto CAN be appropriate, but only if you fly it at a reasonable wing loading. You haven't given any indication of what wing loading you fly the 170, or what the 150 will be. I too am concerned that you're not only downsizing, but downsizing into a very agresive canopy. If you did one or the other I wouldn't be concerned, but both at the same time is risky, IMHO. 25. I would think to kite the canopy off the top of a tall building would work, simply because you've got the altitude for the canopy to recover. I would think doing it off the roof of a house would be an extrememly bad idea, the canopy would probably dive right into the ground... _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
