  1. It's not that so much, because that argument really applies to all different kinds of alti's, and my comments were specific to the Suunto. I made that comment because there are times where I find the small numbers dificult to read, specificlly when I'm freeflying. The numbers are just too small, I literally can't keep my wrist from buffeting in the wind enough to read the small numbers. When I do manage to read the numbers I've brought my wrist in inches from my nose.... I do not have this problem with larger alti's. It's specific to the Suunto. I use mine in the plane, on jumprun, around break off, which at this point which is pretty instinctive, but I mostly use it under canopy. I also use two audibles. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. The mod is incompatible with bird-man suits, which is why I no longer have one. You need to take the bugee off before you can strap on a wingsuit. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. Here's an interesting discussion. The conclusion was that people who thought skydiving was safer then driving didn't understand statistics... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=584336 _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

    It's nasty!

It's a pork fat thing. I think pork fat is natually engineered to be one of the tastiest natural things that ever existed. Cut down on it if you like, but don't cut out all the pork fat... it just wouldn't be any fun. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. You don't really believe that, do you? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. I know nothing about jumping high end Canon cameras.... I do have friends having good experiences with the Sony VX2000, also a guy who guys by "Andre Video" is having good luck with the JVC HDTV GR-HD1. His video is awesome, but he's frustrated that he can't share video over firewire or by swapping tapes into other cameras. Myself, if I went three chip, I'd get the VX2000. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. How long are you folks making your year end video? What are your thoughts on what people sitting around a campfire are willing to watch? For example, I've got a roughly two minute sequence of approaching, dirt-diving, loading, taking off, climbing, and eventually jumping the DC3 at rantoul. Have you guys found that people are actually willing to watch these sequences, or should they be edited down to 15 seconds? This segment would be just part of the WFFC segment, which would be just one part of the whole video. Thanks, _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. I disagree. I think people are starting to get pretty frustrated at how essentially entire cities shut down whenever the president wants to go to some campaign rally. I think cities are starting to get to the point where they're requesting the president not come, because of the disruptions he causes. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. What do you mean you're out of time? The DZ is open until the end of the month, at least. There's also a dropzone trip to florida you can get on, we're heading to Orlando for some wind tunnel time. Lots of students and recent AFF grads going, so you'll fit right in. Give the DZ a call and ask them about whats going on. _AM __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  12. Rob, what part of "post your jumpship" (pics) did you not understand? You can't boast about jumping a Buffalo and NOT POST PICS. Bad Rob. No donut. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. I have one on my bosses coin. It is my primary telephone, I never use my home phone. I put a few hundred dollars of international long distance to my family on works coin. I likey. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. I would disagree strongly with this characterisation. I've been using a Suunto watch for the last year, and I've found it to be perfectly accurate in all situations. Because regular alti's occaisionally "stick", I'd put more trust in the readings of the Suunto then an analogue instrument. The most I've ever seen it diverge because of rapid air preasure changes is 50 feet, similar to what I've seen in a Digitude. I presume Digitudes are common in the UK. I presume a Digitude will pass a flight-line inspection. So should a Suunto. That said, I might be willing to concede that the digits can be dificult to read while in certain positions, such as freeflying. This may negate the "securely mounted in a suitable position" part. I do not recomend the Suunto to those that rely on instruments of altitude awareness, but the accuracy of the instrument has nothing to do with this assessment. _AM __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. Quite a few of us have had very good experiences buying from www.dbuys.com They'll try to sell you extras, but these extras are overpriced. Don't buy the extended waranty. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. When I first heard there was paintball at Rantoul, I thought of canopy paintball. It'd be fun! Getting back to the original post, I've found dz populations to be pretty representative of upper-class America. It's for that reason that I'm not surprised most are for gun control, as that seems to mirror the rest of the country at large. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  21. My thoughts are that the party line is wrong, or at least out of date. The Stileto gained its reputation for being a "spinner" at a very different time, when comparatively it WAS a spinned. Now it's not that different then the rest. Others experience may vary, though. I'd love to see accurate numbers on rate of malfunctions, but I don't see any organizations stepping up to count those numbers. That said, at my DZ the most commonly chopped canopy seems to be the Cobalt, which is odd as there's only 3 of them... I think each one has been chopped once. My DZ hasn't had a Stiletto chopped this year, even though there's probably 15 of them in active every day use. We haven't had any Saber 2's chopped, I don't think... We've had a handful of Velocities chopped, in addition to the Cobalt. I'm not suggesting the Stileto is appropriate for novices, clearly its other characteristics make this a poor choice. I do think the opening characteristics are outstanding. And yes, I jummp with a side-mounted camera. I would be the first to get rid of the Stileto if I though I was risking an entaglement... Instead, the openings are consitently soft and relatively predictable. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  23. Hardly. There's no more reason to think the second tax cut led to a rising economy then there is to think that the first tax cut led to the crappy economy we're just getting out of. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  24. Why don't you find out which was the case before deciding what you think...? Educated opinions, and all that... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. Hey, at least he isn't saying "Bring it on!" anymore... Myself, I just get frustrated when he tries to paint the pircutre of Iraq being about terrorism. Terrorists only got into Iraq when the US took out the Iraqi government. It seems like the American people aren't buying it, though. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
