No. While I firmly believe the war IS unjust, and that no WMD will ever be found, Sadam clearly is a criminal of the highest order, and I do hope a respected, fair, and just court finds him guilty of the most heinous crimes he's accused of. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Kinda long: Transition from old student canopy to Sabre2?
AndyMan replied to craichead's topic in Safety and Training
I agree completely that we're looking for the safest way to get her onto a canopy that works well. PD has not been helpful at all. They've estimated six weeks for a Demo Saber2, 210. Quite honestly, I'm really very surprised, and disapointed. There isn't anyone else at the DZ with canopies in this range to borrow from. Under the 215 she's close to a 1:1 wingloading. Under the 190 she's basically at 1:1.16. That is not a significant difference, from where I'm sitting. As to her being able to land it succesfully off-field, that's exactly what we're asking. Will she have more success flying the more modern wing (even at a slightly higher wingloading) because of the condition of the fabric, and the design of the shape? We're frustrated because all the answers we get focus entirely on the slightly higher wingloading, and completely ignore the changes in design, and condition of the fabric. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
Kinda long: Transition from old student canopy to Sabre2?
AndyMan replied to craichead's topic in Safety and Training
The problem with "listening to her instructors", is that she's gotten two different answers, from two different instructors. Both instructors are well respected. The source of the problem is that none of her instructors have jumped the student gear. Both instructors qualified their answers by saying "I haven't jumped that canopy, but....". At the same time she's being bombarded by lower number jumpers saying "yeah, my landings on those canopies sucked, too". "Jump a real canopy and they'll improve". Craichead and myself are both smart enough to know that jumping a smaller canopy will most certainly NOT help her landings. That said, it's entirely possible that jumping a canopy that isn't completely baffed-out will help. Craichead isn't asking here because she thinks she got the WRONG answer, she's asking here because she thinks she's gotten crappy answers. In all honesty, I agree with her. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
At best estimates, Skydive Chicago does roughly twice the volume as Chicagoland. The difference in size is significant, but not as much as many people think. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

On every computer that I've seen an S-Video port, that port has only been "out". The port has been there so that you can plug a TV into your laptop instead of a monitor. Most likely, you can not use that port to capture video, unless your PC was equipped with "video capture" capabilities. What make/model of computer are you using? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I have absolutely no idea. I'm pretty sure she'd do well at both places, they both have good student programs with good safety records. My point was 1) She doesn't have to skydive. 2) She doesn't have to skydive at SDC. Both of these two points will be reinforced if she reads the SDC waiver. If she doesn't like any aspect of one particular DZ, there are alternatives available. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I think you are wrong... Skydiving is dangerous, and if you don't like that fact then I'm sure you and your friends would enjoy spending the day at Six Flags instead. That said, if the numbers are important to you, then there are other dropzones available. There is another dropzone down the road, Chicagoland which not had a single fatality in over 11 years. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Should I sue/ What do you think?
AndyMan replied to dubbayab's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm confused. Are you suggesting there's a long line of rich skydivers, gleefully skipping from the courthouse, rich judgement in hand? I don't see many. What happened to George happened because he didn't show up. Why he thought that was a good idea is somehting I'll never understand. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
Good Grief Erica! They're giving you 5 monthes notice, and at least some severance. You're highly skilled in a growing industry. This sounds like a great opportunity! I bet you get a raise when you find your new job. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

You have not explained in any concice manner why you think your wife's injury is the fault of the manufacturer and not her own. Unless you can do that, the only possible answer to your question is "no". _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
Anybody else remember when the USMC walked out into Toronto's Exhibition Statium with the Canadian flag upside down? Suposedly it wasn't intentional, but I'd like to think the USMC is capable of recognizing when a flag is upside down... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Survivors can now sue (new ruling?)
AndyMan replied to ltdiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've seen clauses like that in a lot of skydiving waivers. Those clauses are not worth the paper they're printed on. Those would be the easiest get set aside. Too many people in skydiving think that to avoid lawsuits they need a really good waiver. I disagree. I think ways will always be found around all waivers, eventually. The best way to avoid being sued is to do everything in your power so that people enjoy the sport without dieing. This is especially true for students. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
I guess. Neither FXC12000 or soft-housings are common at my DZ, and the riggers tend to refuse to repack (or strongly recomend upgrades to) rigs equipped with either. Just from what I've observed, its a pretty rare case where you can't find a manual online for the gear that most people are using. I don't ever plan on being a "full service" rigger, so I see little value in historical manuals. The question posed was "Would I want or pay for....", and my answer is "no". _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Thanks. I was hoping to use the 18-35 on the film rebel. I see that won't work, but it would have meant not having to buy a 20mm for the analog rebel - I could've used the 18-35mm. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
-
Not really. Many manufacturer manuals are already being distributed in electronic form, and the ones that haven't are going that way. It is, or it will be easy for riggers to download the manuals themselves. The Mirage my we just got for my wife didn't even come with a printed manual... Just a CDROM. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

What is it about the lens that different? I thought all EF lenses fit all EOS cameras? What about current (read: new) Rebel frames? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

A few questions. I've got a FTP on the way. I'm also contemplating buying my first SLR. I'll either get a 300D, a el-cheapo Rebel, or both. The tandem consession at my DZ is not setup for digital stills. Will the 300D zoom lens that comes in the package work with a standard rebel? (buying the 300d means I won't have to buy a wide angle for the analog camera) Is anybody shooting the 300D with the standard lens? If I buy both cameras I won't be able to afford another lens. Can I mount my PC120 behind either Rebel, so that the PC120 can "see" over the Rebel? I'd like to try to mount both towards the center of the FTP to reduce riser-strikes. How can I topmount my PC120? The tape spits out the bottom, so it'll need to come off quickly. I was thinking about a stroboframe. Will I be able to open the tape compartment with a stroboframe shoe attached? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Well said. I can't imagine why any parent would let a 10 year old watch news unsupervised. That's not to say that kids should be sheltered from the world we live in, I believe quite the opposite. Kids do need a guiding hand in interpretting what they see on TV. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

No argument from me. Only because of a few minor exceptions do I even consider SQL a programming language. It is for the most part simply a reporting tool... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
