  1. I think this question was specific to an instructor who DOES have assets. One reason I'm hesitant to get involved in instructing is because I do have personal assets. Just because someone is an instructor, doens't mean they're living in a tent behind the hanger. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. I don't believe there are any USPA regulations requiring specific licenses that are specific to jumping from baloons. The DZ and ballon owner can enforce whatever requirements they choose. It's often the case that when the rules are enforced by the DZO or other private entities, it's enough that you be qualified for the rating - not necesarily actually have it. Usually this specifically refers to number of jumps. For example, back when the 'b' license meant 50 jumps, the World Freefall Convention would require that all participants be "B qualified" - meaning they wanted to see 50 jumps. I don't see a DZO requiring water training for baloon jumps, unless you're jumping in an area where water poses a significant risk in off-landings. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. Remsters point was right on. Forming an corporation is something thats really common when it comes to protecting owners. DZO's and plane owners do this because it insulates the owners from the actions of employees. If the contract pilot fucks up, it helps save the owner. Forming a corporation does NOT help the employee at all. In the case of the pilot who fucked up, he could still be named as defendent. The veil of the corporation will not protect him. In this case, where the owner IS the employee, it does little to help. The injured party would just sue the employee, instead of the corporation. This is one reason I'm very hesitant to get into the tandem business. If I fuck up, there's very little protection for me andy my familys assets. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. If yer gonna fall..... DON'T REACH FOR THE GROUND! When you practiced PLF's, was the second point of contact your hands? No! Reaching for the ground like you did is a good way to sprain a or break a wrist. If you think you're gonna "go down", go with it. Tuck in, and turn your fall into a roll. You'll thank me some day. Oh, btw - funny video! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. But the truck was chasing the motorcycle, with jumpers in the back? Certainly does sound odd... I can't say I blame a newbie for freaking out, either... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. I'll be quitting my job too. Anyone know of openings for a senior java developer with 6 years experience? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. I would never turn someone away from the dropzone before making a single jump. I encourage everyone to take a tandem, and if that goes well, AFF. I am pretty good at figuring out who will, and will not make it all the way through to the end of AFF. I leave it up to them and their instructors to make this call, though. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. You remember that You and me used to do that all the time, right? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. I think you need to re-read the article you posted. Here, I'll even quote it for you: Just in case you missed it, the patient WAS evaluated. The patient WAS deemed "stable". Obviously the determination was in error, but its hardly the case that the hospital blankly refused treatment like you're suggesting. I thought you were talking about the innadequacies in Canada's system, not Spain's? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  12. I think that maybe it just won't work on the forums. I thought you were asking for HTML, but the stuff the forums let you use is a pretty reduced set. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. Sugar free Red Bull. The lift is gentler... doesn't give you the nasty sugar body buzz of the full strength stuff. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. or In the second case, the number represents number of pixels. Additionally, you can control the hight of the line with "size" and also you adjust the style of the line with "noshade". _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. Don't believe everything you read. When I had an MRI for my knee in Canada, I waited 4 days. When I had an MRI for my ankle in Chicago, I waited 14 days. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. Why is this different at all than the US? Man shows up at Hospital with no insurance. Hospital deems he is not critically ill, his case is not an emergency. Hospital tells him to go home. He later dies. This sounds exactly the same way the American system works. If you don't have proof of insurance, they only treat you in an emergency. Why is that this is the damnation of the Canadian system, but happens frequently with the US one? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  17. Yes. ID's are checked consistently. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  18. My only question is how do you know he doesn't have a commercial rating? The DZO of Chicagoland is commercially rated, and will occaisionally fly. Also, the late Roger Nelson was also commercially rated, and would fly at his DZ, too. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  20. I know Henry. He's prolly got 8000 hours of freefall... Henry's a good guy, and when I was jumping at Frontier Skydivers near Buffalo, he had a pretty prominent role in running the place. If I remember correctly, He's got a demo team. A few years ago, he was sponsored by http://www.mightytaco.com/ I hope he got out of his job with his pension intact. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. You would do well to write a quite note to the editor. These are the kinds of mistakes that can give a dropzone a bad reputation, but more importantly, they're the kinds of mistakes that editors will publish "corrections" in a future article. The last thing you guys want is anywhere near the kinds of bad publicity thats been common up here in Chicago. I'd be quick to jump on any corrections necesary.... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

    Saving PM's

One PM takes up about as much space as one post to the forums. Considering that there are over a million posts made to the forums, and they're growing at a few thousand per day, the few hundred PM's you're saving don't take up that much space. So, to answer your question: Yes, they take up space, yes HH has to spend money on more storage. The cost of storing your saved PM's is prolly somewhere around a few pennies. No, deleting your saved PM's will not make life easier for HH. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  24. I dunno. I've argued before that it isn't a sport. In the end, I don't really care. It damn well is a whole lotta fun. Aparently Ball-room dancing is a "sport" Some people think Chess is, too. Both are in the olympics. Whatever those are... Skydiving has very little in common. I'm perfectly happy with jumping being whatever it is... cuz pigeonholing it is silly. What is it? IT's damn fun. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. I think these "malfunctions" were of much more concern back before colapsible pilot chutes were common. I just can't imagine a colapsed one provides that much drag... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
